Chapter 482 Donald told me to be careful
Jessica added, "If you just keep crying and remain silent, they'll get used to looking down on you. It will be hard to change the situation later. Do you want to live in this kind of environment forever?"
Rebecca quickly shook her head and suddenly reached out to grab Jessica's arm as if seeking help. "No, I don't."
Then, she looked at Jessica with hopeful eyes and asked softly, "Jessica, will you stay in the Jenner Estate in the future? I want to follow you."
Jessica was confused. She was trying to teach Rebecca to grow on her own, but now Rebecca was asking if she could stay in the Jenner Estate?
Was she looking for a sense of security from her?
Jessica glanced at Gabriel and saw that he had a knowing look on his face. Although he didn't say anything, it was clear he realized she had inadvertently gotten herself entangled.
Jessica replied, "Probably not."
Seeing Rebecca's instantly dejected expression, Jessica felt a bit sorry for her. Clearing her throat, she said, "Alright, it's too cold here. Donald is still in the room. Come with me to check on him."
"Okay." Rebecca responded quickly and obediently followed.
Seeing Jessica and Gabriel walking together, although she hadn't paid much attention to online news, she could tell that the tall, handsome, and gentle yet strong Gabriel was Jessica's husband. So, she obediently followed behind Jessica, not daring to get between them.
Jessica and Gabriel walked ahead, not intending to pay much attention to Rebecca, just allowing her to follow.
Occasionally, they glanced back to make sure Rebecca was still following, then continue walking.
Rebecca noticed Jessica's subtle concern for her. When Jessica turned back again, she smiled at her. Jessica immediately put on a serious expression and continued walking towards the room.
Donald had already been sent back to the bedroom to rest. Jessica went to check on him. Donald was unconscious, but when he heard that Jessica had come to see him, his fingers moved slightly by the bedside, indicating for her to sit.
Jessica sat by Donald's bedside for a while. There were other people in the room, including the Jenner family's butler and servants, and some relatives outside the bedroom door.
The doctor had said that if Michael were discharged from the hospital and left the medical equipment, it would be very dangerous. A critical condition notice had already been issued in the hospital, let alone just lying in bed without any treatment.
Everyone knew that Donald might pass away at any moment.
The situation in the Washington business circle was uncertain. Jessica had just taken some time to visit Donald, fulfilling her last bit of familial duty as a rarely seen and emotionally distant granddaughter.
As for the development of the Jenner family, although she couldn't avoid it, she had no intention of taking over.
Firstly, it wasn't her field of expertise. Secondly, it wasn't the life she pursued.
Although she hadn't delved into the various business lifelines in the business circle or taken the time to understand everything about the Jenner family, perhaps because she had been with Gabriel for a long time, she had developed a certain habit of reliance.
For instance, what she hadn't understood, Gabriel surely had. What she didn't know, Gabriel knew.
All the information she hadn't grasped was mastered by him.
She didn't want to deal with these matters, so he quietly didn't place that burden on her shoulders.
Donald lay in bed with his eyes closed, his hand warm. When Jessica reached out, his fingers moved slightly, holding her hand and not letting go for a long time.
The servants and butler in the room didn't know whether they were Eugene's people, Daniel's father's people, or someone else's. They stayed in the room for a while, seeing that Jessica was just quietly staying by Donald's side without speaking. After a while, someone called them from outside, so they looked at Jessica again and then turned to leave.
Jessica asked the remaining servants in the room to get Donald a cup of warm water and a straw, indicating that Donald was probably thirsty and his mouth was very dry.
After the servant left, Jessica looked at Donald's hand holding hers and said softly, "You want to tell me something?"
Donald couldn't speak, and his eyes were almost closed. It seemed all his strength was in his hand, holding hers and not letting go.
Seeing that there was no one else in the room for the moment, but the servant would probably be back soon with the water, Jessica leaned closer to Donald and asked softly, "What do you want to say?"
She lowered her eyes and saw Donald's mouth move. Although no sound came out, she could roughly make out the words from the weak movements of his lips and breath.
In the evening, Eugene took the opportunity of Daniel's father's absence to temporarily take charge at home and asked Jessica to stay. Jessica didn't agree and left after saying goodbye to Rebecca, returning to the hotel.
Just back at the hotel, she was preparing to hang out with Gabriel to eat, Eugene called again, telling them that there were too many relatives and guests at the Jenner Estate, and he had no appetite. He hadn't eaten yet and asked Jessica what she wanted to eat, inviting her and Gabriel to dine out together.
When Jessica received the call, she glanced at Gabriel.
Gabriel looked calmly and said, "It's snowing."
Jessica immediately replied on the phone, "No, thanks. The hotel is far from the Jenner Estate, and it's late now. The weather is bad, and the roads are slippery with snow. Let's do it another day."
Before Eugene could say more or ask another question, she added, "I'm getting into the elevator, the signal is bad, hanging up."
After hanging up, she looked at the snow outside. "With such heavy snow, the roads must be blocked. Let's eat at the hotel."
They went to the hotel's restaurant. After ordering, Jessica picked up the a glass of lemon water, holding it in her hands, her fingers lightly tapping the glass.
Gabriel cut the appetizer that the restaurant brought and placed it in front of her. As he withdrew his hand, he asked, "What are you thinking?"
Jessica held the glass, withdrew her gaze from the window, and looked at him.
"Donald asked me to be careful of Aaron," Jessica replied.
Hearing this, Gabriel's face showed no surprise, as if he had already guessed.
Jessica, however, rested her face on one hand, holding the glass with the other, hesitantly saying, "So, was Daniel causing me trouble because he heard something about me from Aaron? I only met Daniel's dad once at a Christmas's family dinner two years ago, but I didn't know he was my Uncle Aaron. I didn't even plan to acknowledge my grandfather, let alone them."
