Chapter 467 Grabbing Gabriel's Hand and Rushing to the Beach
Before she could finish her sentence, Jessica's phone rang. Seeing a Washington area code on the caller ID, she furrowed her brow.
The studio often set up schedules and other work in Washington, but for some reason, seeing this number made Jessica's scalp tingle.
When she answered, there were two seconds of silence on the other end, then Eugene's long-unheard voice came through, "Jessica, Michael is critically ill. If you can, come back to Washington."
The caller was her biological father, the source of many of her childhood nightmares and much of her unhappiness.
Normally, if she saw his call, she'd hang up and block him, never intending to contact him again.
But with Donald critically ill, he called specifically to inform her, which must mean Donald was on the brink.
That Donald, with his gold-rimmed glasses and shrewd eyes despite his poor health.
Even if they weren't close, he was still her biological grandfather.
Plus, Daniel was still locked up, unable to return to Washington, and with Gabriel's one-sided statements and pressure on the police, Daniel had no chance of getting out. If Donald was really dying, Jessica should go to Washington to see him, both emotionally and rationally.
Coincidentally, the head of another outdoor reality show Mackenzie had sent her today was also in Washington.
"What couple's reality show?" Gabriel's voice interrupted her thoughts.
She put down her phone. "No rush, it's a reality show about marriage and romance. I haven't finished reading the details yet. We'll decide whether to participate later if you're free. For now, I'll go to Washington for another show and set an example for those new trainees."
Hearing the name Washington, Gabriel looked at her.
Even though he didn't ask, it was clear he knew something was up.
Jessica didn't intend to hide it from him and said directly, "Donald is critically ill. I'll go see him. Even if we aren't close, he was still my grandpa."
"I'll go with you," Gabriel quickly said.
Jessica looked up and saw the clear and calm light in Gabriel's eyes, which seemed to have a penetrating power, making her instantly understand his meaning.
The Jenner family in Washington had been unstable in recent years. Daniel had been causing her trouble for a reason. If Donald died, the entire Jenner family and the Washington business circle would be shaken. It wouldn't be safe for her to go back alone.
But if Gabriel was with her, no matter how turbulent the Washington business circle became, it would be calmed down, at least on the surface, and no one wouldn't dare to stir up trouble in front of him.
Jessica leaned into his arms, looking up at him, hoping he would accompany her, but also not wanting to delay his work. She said gloomily, "What about your company? It's very busy at the end of the year."

The smell of barbecue on the beach was driving Jessica crazy with hunger. She couldn't take it anymore and dragged Gabriel towards the food.
Eating first was the top priority!
The next day around noon, they landed in Washington.
Jessica and Gabriel had no plans to stay at the Jenner family home. Given the show Jessica was set to participate in, they booked a suite at a hotel owned by the Harriman Group.
The head of the outdoor reality show in Washington, who was also the marketing manager and assistant director, had already arranged a car to pick them up, knowing Jessica would arrive today.
This time, Jessica wasn't handling the schedule alone. Gabriel rarely visited Washington, where the Harriman Group was a major player. There were cars waiting for them.

In the car, Jessica took a call from Nolan Campbell, politely explaining why they didn't meet at the airport and arranged to meet at four in the afternoon.
The hotel was in a prime location, and it was a presidential suite Jessica had never stayed in before. The first thing she did upon entering the room was take a shower to wash off the travel dust. She had to meet Nolan in the afternoon and wait for arrangements from the Jenner family to visit Donald in the hospital. So, Jessica changed into a more low-key and plain outfit, not wanting to draw too much attention at the hospital.
At four in the afternoon, at a business center in Washington, Jessica and Lynn arrived at the meeting office and met Nolan and several other producers and representatives from the show's main sponsor.
"Mrs. Jenner, you have truly been a role model in the entertainment industry these past two years. Not only do you have many works, but each one is of high quality, whether in film, television, or advertising. We've always wanted to collaborate with you on a reality show, but your schedule has always been packed. Today, we finally have the chance to meet you. It's a pleasure!" Nolan extended his hand to shake with Jessica and Lynn, warmly inviting them to sit and chat.
The show's producers were very enthusiastic about Jessica. After all, it was her first official participation in a reality show in the past two years, which was sure to attract fans' attention. The conditions and compensation offered were very generous, meeting as many of their requirements as possible.
When Lynn took out the profiles of other new trainees from the studio to show them and requested that these newcomers occasionally appear on the show, Nolan immediately understood that they wanted to promote new talent.
"Are these the newcomers your studio plans to promote in the coming years?" Nolan asked.
"Yes," Lynn quickly replied.
"Having them appear is not a problem, but with our current personnel and game design, giving too much screen time to newcomers might cause a backlash from fans, which would be counterproductive. We'll discuss how to schedule their appearances later. However, the show's compensation might not meet your expectations, as these newcomers are inexperienced.
