Chapter 376 Are You Really This Heartless?

More than two years ago, the memory of Gabriel, injured all over at the bottom of the cliff, was still vivid in her mind.

"Where there's profit, there's bloodshed. This world is never short of lunatics." Gabriel glanced at her. "The Stellaria City business district is a perfect example. Xyleria isn't much safer either. It's just that the killings are bloodless."

Jessica's thoughts were still on the surface. After all, she had just survived a life-threatening ordeal today and learned that several people had died on the spot from similar injuries.

Now, being alone with Gabriel for so long, her feelings were complicated and far from calm.

She sat back in the chair by the hospital bed. "So, it's right that I didn't return to the Jenner family."

Jessica put the cup back on the table, thinking of the useless Daniel and the calculating Donald, her resistance growing stronger.

After a brief silence, Gabriel closed his eyes and said, "You can choose any path you think is right. No one can truly force you to do something you don't want to do. Every circle has its dark side, including the entertainment industry."

Jessica glanced at him but remained silent.

She guessed he knew a lot about her issues with the Jenner family.

Clearly, he also knew why she didn't want to associate with the Jenner family.

Jessica suddenly reached for the pillow behind his neck. Although the nurse had stopped the bleeding earlier, there were still bloodstains on the pillow.

Gabriel instinctively turned his head slightly because of her action but immediately let out a low groan. He saw Jessica leaning over, looking at him with clear, bright eyes, obviously on purpose.

Jessica asked knowingly, "Does it hurt?"

"What do you think?" Gabriel replied.

After all, the anesthetic had worn off.

Jessica withdrew her hand from his pillow. "It should hurt. Let me see if you'll still act tough in the future."

Gabriel squinted. "Are you really that heartless?"

Jessica laughed unceremoniously. "You know I'm heartless; it's not the first day you've realized that."

The next morning, the doctor came in for rounds. Lynn and Zoey had already arrived. Jessica took the opportunity while the doctor and nurse were checking Gabriel's wounds and changing his bandages to go out and meet Lynn and Zoey.

"You scared us to death. Yesterday, you went downstairs to wish the old lady a happy birthday, and then you didn't come back. Suddenly, there was such a big incident at the hotel. Someone recognized you and said you were also hit." Lynn hadn't slept all night, looking Jessica up and down with dark circles under her eyes. "Are you really okay?"

"I'm fine. My foot got cut by some glass shards, but other than that, I'm okay." Jessica reassured her. "But last night was really dangerous. I think I'll have a psychological shadow about large crystal chandeliers from now on."

Zoey added, "You got hit. Of course, you'll have a psychological shadow. When Lynn and I arrived and saw all the blood on the ground, knowing that someone had died there, we were terrified. That chandelier was so big and heavy, with so many metal hooks."

Jessica reassured them for a while longer. She learned that her phone had broken when she fell to the ground yesterday. Lynn gave her a spare phone, and they would handle the rest when they returned to Xyleria.

Jessica asked Zoey to go downstairs and buy some breakfast. When she returned to the ward, the doctor and nurse had already left.

Since Gabriel's injuries were not suitable for too much movement, Jessica didn't suggest changing his room. This room was fine, just not as well-equipped as a VIP room, but it was close to the nurse's station, making it convenient to get anything they needed.

The nurse had thoughtfully replaced the blood-stained pillow from last night. Gabriel was now half-sitting, leaning against the pillow. When she entered, he turned to her.

The sky outside was already bright. The heavy rain in Stellaria City had passed, and it was a rare sunny day. The sunlight streaming into the room brought a touch of warmth.

"You want something to eat?" Jessica placed the takeout Zoey had bought on the bedside table. She opened the bag, found a box of vegetable porridge, and prepared to feed him.

Gabriel, true to his easygoing nature, opened his mouth and ate without any hesitation.

Jessica scooped another spoonful of porridge, noticing the steam rising from it. "Isn't it too hot?"

Gabriel replied, "Yes."

Jessica continued, "But you still eat it?"

Gabriel responsed, "You didn't blow on it for me."

Jessica paused. Seeing Gabriel's serious expression while saying such shameless words, she couldn't tell if he was genuinely dazed from the injury or if he had always had this nasty side.

Well, it was probably dazed from the injury.

She reluctantly withdrew the spoon she was about to feed him, blew on it twice, and then brought it back to his mouth. After Gabriel took a bite, she scooped another spoonful, blowing on it while watching him. Seeing him leaning comfortably against the pillow despite his injuries, her grip on the spoon tightened.

After feeding him, Jessica also ate some breakfast, feeling much calmer after filling her stomach.

As she was cleaning up the meal boxes, Gabriel, who had been lying still on the bed, suddenly said, "I haven't washed my face yet."

Jessica looked puzzled. "You're this injured, but you still want to wash your face?"

Gabriel lay there, unbuttoning his hospital gown with a slight smile. "Just wipe it."

'Pushing your luck, aren't you?' Jessica thought.

She stood there without moving, initially thinking of contacting the hotel staff to see if there were any other employees from the Harriman Group since Wayne hadn't come, and Landon had left. But seeing Gabriel's dependency on her, she gave up.

Seeing her not moving, Gabriel continued unbuttoning his gown and sighed softly. "Get me a basin of water. I'll wipe myself."

'How could he wipe himself? He'd probably end up reopening his wounds,' she thought.

Resigned, Jessica turned to get some water.

After fetching the water and washing the disinfected towel, she returned to the bedside to find Gabriel had already closed his eyes, waiting for her to wipe his face.

After she quickly and efficiently wiped his face, Gabriel opened his eyes. "Since my face is already wiped, might as well my body."

Jessica said, "I only wiped your collar yesterday. This is a hospital room, not your bathroom. Where do you get so many demands?"

Gabriel replied, "If I don't make you work a bit to repay your debt, you might never get over this incident."

Jessica almost stuffed the towel into his mouth. She glared at him, her hands a bit heavy as she wiped his shoulders, only lightening her touch around his wounds.

She knew it must hurt, but Gabriel didn't make a sound, just watched her, clearly preferring the pain to enjoy her care.
