Amy's face was flushed with indignation. "Brent, you're really living up to your last name. If you have the guts, don't eat a single bite!"
Brent was taken aback by the unexpected jab at his last name, something he hadn't heard since grade school. He leaned back on the couch, laughing uncontrollably. "I didn't mean to single you out. My wife Melissa couldn't cook either when we first got married. Even now, she can only make scrambled eggs, but we're doing just fine. If you can't cook, don't sweat it. Just help Kevin out."
Amy rolled her eyes dramatically, then quickly moved to Kevin's side, looking at him with a pleading expression. She whispered, "Mr. Martinez, if you don't let me into the kitchen, everyone will laugh at me for a month."
Kevin looked thoughtfully at everyone, then back at Amy with a seemingly troubled expression.
It was clear Kevin was doing it on purpose, and Brent burst out laughing again. "Amy, what kind of guy did you find? Look at how much he's avoiding you. He probably thinks you'll blow up the kitchen."
Suddenly, Amy lunged forward, grabbed a pillow from the couch, and threw it at Brent's head.
Brent caught the pillow, still laughing.
Seeing Amy roll up her sleeves, ready to fight, Kevin sighed and grabbed her wrist. "Alright, come with me to the kitchen."
Amy instantly calmed down, looking at her wrist being held, then at Kevin in shock.
[Faced with such a young girl, the usually aloof and composed Mr. Martinez couldn't keep his cool.]

[Amy's shocked expression—she really likes him, doesn't she? She's really pursuing Kevin, right?]

Jessica stood there, glancing at the unperturbed Gabriel, then exchanged looks with the others present before her gaze returned to the kitchen.
Jessica moved closer to Gabriel, curious about his current state of mind. After all, while others might not know Gabriel well, she understood her husband. Even though Gabriel's face didn't show any familial affection for Amy, seeing her being taken away by Kevin couldn't have left him completely indifferent.
Jessica gently nudged Gabriel's arm with her shoulder and whispered, "So, should we go in and help or not?"
