Chapter 495 How Many Days Has It Been Since She Had a Good Rest?
Jessica and Marshall had signed a six-month variety show contract. Recently, Marshall was invited to be a guest performer on another ongoing talent show to boost its popularity by appearing in the final episode.
Coincidentally, this aligned with Marshall's request for Jessica to announce that she would participate in the next variety show with Marshall and Nolan, committing to the entire season.
The topic of Jessica appearing on a variety show had already started to gain traction on trending topics.
In the car, Jessica was preparing to do her makeup, holding the Jenner family accounts from Eugene and a cup of black coffee in hands, looking down intently.
Mackenzie came to Washington recently. Since she was worried about Jessica, she decided not to return to Xyleria, staying with her and Lynn to record the show.
But it was too early now, and Mackenzie and Lynn were yawning in the car, tears streaming from their eyes due to sleepiness. In contrast, Jessica, who hadn't slept all night, didn't seem tired at all, only drinking a cup of black coffee to stay alert.
"Even though Mr. Harriman is still in the hospital, you're pushing yourself too hard." Mackenzie yawned again.
Jessica didn't respond and still focused on the accounts on her lap.
In the past five years, there hadn't been any significant changes in the Jenner family accounts, mostly controlled by Donald. Apart from a few failed investments, everything seemed normal. Even these failed investments didn't affect the overall structure of the Jenner family, given their deep roots. Losing a few billion dollars was just a temporary setback, easily recovered by the next profitable investment. As for the project Daniel and Donald planned to acquire in Stellaria City, it ultimately wasn't included in the Jenner family's annual report.
The accounts also included the company Eugene established in Xyleria, which later changed management due to a recall to Washington.
Meanwhile, Aaron had been focusing on Manhattan Construction in recent years, with little connection to the Jenner family's business network.
In other words, Aaron seemed to have disappeared from the Jenner family's business landscape in recent years. Despite having a significant influence, he gave up this part of the interests after Eugene returned to Washington. It appeared he had no intention of competing with Eugene, yet he still sent Daniel to Donald. Although Daniel was incompetent, he became one of Eugene's biggest obstacles after returning to Washington.
Aaron seemed to have plans to compete for the family assets but rarely returned to the Jenner family and maintained a distant relationship with Donald.
Being Donald's biological son, what was the purpose of Aaron creating such an impression?
There were no rumors of Aaron severing ties with Donald. Without activity in recent years, could something have happened long ago?
Jessica was about to continue reading when the car stopped at the makeup room of the variety show recording site. Lynn called her to get off the car, and she finished the remaining half cup of coffee and got out with the accounts.
This variety show was a dance competition. The final episode's guest performer couldn't attend due to a leg injury, and the recording couldn't be rescheduled. As a result, Jessica filled this vacancy.
However, other guest performers had practiced the dance a week in advance, while Jessica hadn't. With only six hours left before the final recording, she had to learn the dance and coordinate with the contestants.
From the moment she entered the makeup room, Jessica spent the first half of the time looking at the Jenner family accounts, going back twenty years. The remaining time was spent watching the dance routines on an iPad.
Once everything was ready, Jessica went straight to the practice room.
Two hours after Jessica entered the practice room, Lynn and Mackenzie stood outside checking the time.
Mackenzie said, "She hasn't danced seriously in years, and she just got out of the hospital a few days ago. I wonder if her body can handle such intense practice."
Lynn replied, "Whether she can handle it or not, the contract is signed. She must have her reasons for suddenly deciding to sign this six-month variety show contract with Marshall. There must be other connections between her and Marshall behind the scenes. Otherwise, how could she almost retired from the industry suddenly participate in so many variety shows?"
Mackenzie nodded. "Marshall is a high-status figure in Washington. He has access to many things beyond our reach. It's probably related to the Jenner family and Mr. Harriman. With such a big incident, Jessica has to juggle the Jenner family, her work, and Marshall's connections and information channels. How many days has it been since she had a good rest?"
Then Lynn suddenlywent in to ask Jessica to take a break. But when she opened the door, she saw Jessica still practicing diligently, too busy to pay attention to her.
Four hours after entering the practice room, Jessica started rehearsing with the contestants. These were energetic young men in their twenties, accustomed to months of practice.
While Jessica hadn't rested well in the hospital, and after being discharged, she often stayed up all night. Last night, in particular, she didn't sleep at all, arriving here at five in the morning and practicing until now.
The makeup was for the rehearsal's uniform look, but now her makeup and hair were drenched in sweat, and her clothes were soaked. She forced herself to keep practicing.
When Marshall entered the practice room, the contestants were taking a break but didn't dare sit down, fearing they wouldn't be able to get up. Jessica had just practiced again and stumbled and knelt on the ground, hands on the floor, breathing heavily. The contestants quickly gathered around to check on her.
Jessica waved her hand. "I'm fine."
Marshall told the contestants to practice next door and walked over. "Jessica, I'm really grateful you could help. You've practiced well enough. Take a break."
Hearing Marshall's words, Jessica turned to look at him, took a few deep breaths, and sat on the ground. After a few more breaths, she asked, "Is Aaron coming back this afternoon?"
Marshall handed her a bottle of water. "He can't miss the Manhattan Construction project tomorrow, so he'll definitely be back in Washington by this afternoon at the latest."
