Chapter 64 Have to Start Over Again
Although Jessica ignored the gossiping drama queens in the makeup room, filming these days was indeed difficult.
There was a scene in the drama where the second female lead needed to practice in the fairy mountain ice spring. The production crew used dry ice in the built hot spring to create a cold air effect. However, the set crew placed dozens of real ice cubes in the water and around it, which were brought from an unknown source, claiming that it was for a realistic effect.
When she sat in the water, her whole body was stung by the cold water, but she persisted and continued acting.
Deborah, who had been talking to her by the spring, encountered more than ten NGs in a row. Either she forgot her lines or broke into laughter. It was not until the director was about to get angry that they finally got that shot done.
When Jessica stood up from the water, her lips had already turned pale due to the freezing cold. She wrapped herself in the bath towel handed to her by Harrison and kept drinking hot tea in the car.
Seeing Jessica drink two cups of hot tea and still looking pale, Harrison felt heartbroken. "She didn't even have more than five lines. She messed up more than ten times, making you soak in the cold water for over an hour. I think she wants your life.
Jessica raised the third cup of hot tea to her lips and blew on it. "At most, just a cold. I'm tough, she can't handle me."
"If you have a severe cold, you will definitely have to take leave and get an injection. It will drag down the crew's progress, and she will have something to talk about. She obviously bribed the set crew to deliberately make things difficult for you." Harrison, still full of youthful energy, sat beside Jessica with red eyes.
"That's why I definitely can't let myself catch a cold." Jessica felt much warmer now and continued to drink her hot tea. "Keep boiling water, I'll drink a few more cups, and then I'll take some medicine later to make sure I won't catch a cold."
Jessica had been drinking hot tea in the car, accumulating her energy. In the afternoon, she had another important scene to shoot before she could go home.
Harrison was worried about Jessica getting too cold, so he called someone from Mackenzie's studio to bring over sugar and ginger. He busied himself making ginger tea for Jessica to warm her up.
And Jessica indeed did not disappoint. She was back to full health after resting in the car for a few hours.
Deborah Whitney thought that by now, Jessica would have been taken to the hospital or asked for leave due to a cold. She never expected to see her in the dressing room, looking perfectly fine. Deborah's expression turned sour upon seeing Jessica changing clothes.
In the afternoon, after finishing her makeup, Jessica discussed the plot with Joseph. Deborah hesitated in the dressing room for a while and finally came out to ask the director if she could just film her back in this scene and use a stand-in.
Joseph, who always pursued perfection in filming, naturally disagreed and insisted she had to do it herself.
When Deborah looked in Jessica's direction again, she saw Jessica holding the script and engrossed in reading it, making her expression even more unpleasant.
Why did Deborah not want to film this scene today?
This scene was one of the few in the entire play where the supporting character, Katherine, tormented the lead character.
The kind-hearted lead character risked everything to save Katherine, hoping to change her heart.
But Katherine slapped the lead character and had her tied to a pillar outside the palace, exposed to the sun for three days, and tortured in every possible way. Joseph demanded that the slap had to be real, not fake.
After slapping Deborah a few times, Jessica suddenly looked up and said to Joseph, "Sorry, I forgot my lines."
Joseph, with an expressionless face, looked at the camera and picked up the walkie-talkie, shouting, "Reset!"
Jessica looked down at Deborah, who was still kneeling in front of her, and smiled slightly. "Ms. Whitney, I'm sorry. As a newcomer, my acting state is not very stable, so we'll have to do it again."
