Chapter 148 Did Something Happen to Him Last Night
Jessica, feeling groggy, sensed Gabriel straightening her slightly uncomfortable head, which was twisted from sleeping in a towel. His arm, originally propped against her waist, was now crossed behind her neck.
The chilly Gabriel embraced her, adjusting her to the most comfortable position. His other hand ran through her damp hair again; a faint, hoarse sigh drifted in the air from somewhere, followed by the warm breeze of the hairdryer gently blowing on her head once more.
Early the next day, the sun hung high outside the window, its light piercing through the lush greenery of the garden, casting a bright line into the quiet bedroom through the gap in the curtains.
When Jessica opened her eyes, she felt a whirlwind in her mind.
Indeed, the headache and dizziness after a hangover were inevitable, even with the best hangover drink, which only provided relief. The fundamental way to avoid this pain was simply not to drink as much.
Struggling to get out of bed, Jessica first couldn't recognize where she was. Glancing around, she caught a faint scent of wood in the air, mixed with the morning chill fog.
This scent was familiar, as it belonged solely to Gabriel's refreshing, cold fragrance.
Did she not return to the Blue Bay Apartments last night?
Was this Gabriel's room?
After drinking too much, did she end up staying directly with the Harriman family?
Before Jessica could investigate further, there was a sudden knock on the door, and Sarah entered.
Sarah thought Jessica was still asleep and was about to come in to deliver the dry-cleaned clothes. Seeing Jessica awake, she smiled and asked, "Miss Jessica, how did you sleep?"
Seeing Jessica still dazed, Sarah smiled again, not sure how to address her or if she should be cautious. She continued, "I'm Sarah, a servant of the Harriman family. I have watched Mr. Harriman and Nicholas grow up. Miss Jessica, you don't need to be so guarded here.. We serve you with care and respect."
Sarah brought the clothes to the bedside, neatly folded them, and said, "Your clothes from last night were stained with alcohol, so I had them dry-cleaned. They are clean now, and you can put them on whenever you get out of bed."
"Thank you, Sarah." Jessica's awareness slowly returned, and she quickly replied before looking around and asking, "Whose room is this?"
The bedroom didn't seem like a vacant guest room; instead, it was an elegant and clean main bedroom.
"This is Mr. Harriman's bedroom," Sarah replied with a smile.
Indeed.
Jessica rubbed her temples. How did she end up getting so drunk last night? She rarely drank so much outside, except for the incident with Twitter the previous time, where a mix of emotions led her to drink a few extra cans. How long had it been since then, and she was already drunk again?
With a low tolerance for alcohol, she generally steered clear of heavy drinking. The few times she had been intoxicated could be counted on one hand, and on two such occasions, Gabriel had been her audience. "Is it a headache? Let me massage it for you."
Sarah approached, and as soon as her words fell, her hand naturally covered Jessica's head, massaging the acupoints.
Jessica initially wanted to decline the offer, but as soon as Sarah's hand touched her head, she felt a significant relief from the discomfort of her headache.
The Harriman family's servant was surprisingly versatile, even skilled in massaging to relieve meridians. With such a comforting technique, she could save money on hiring professional masseurs outside.
Feeling somewhat better, Jessica asked Sarah for some toiletries and headed to the bathroom. As Jessica glanced at the bathtub, a fleeting image crossed her mind but quickly disappeared, failing to capture that moment.
She stared at the bathtub for a while until Sarah reminded her that Michael was taking a walk in the garden and she could go down to chat with him. Jessica quickly brushed her teeth.
As she brushed her teeth and the toothpaste touched the corner of her lips, she instinctively felt pain. It hurt so much!
Jessica stood in front of the mirror, noticing that her lips had inexplicably become much redder than usual, with a slight swelling that wasn't too severe.
After drinking too much last night, did she accidentally consume hot soup? Why were her lips so red and swollen?
Jessica endured the pain as she brushed her teeth, grimacing in discomfort. After finally finishing, Sarah brought her a cup of drink to relieve her hangover headache. Even while drinking, she felt a faint pain when the water touched her lips.
She touched her lips, wondering if something unspeakable had happened last night, when suddenly she heard a loud singing voice outside.
Guided by Sarah, Jessica walked out and saw Michael sitting on a lounge chair in the garden, swaying and humming lines from a play.
Michael suddenly cleared his throat, took a sip of coffee, and was about to continue singing when he caught sight of Sarah leading Jessica over. He paused his humming and looked over, his tune slowing down.
Jessica, meanwhile, noticed the lounge chair behind Michael and the coffee set beside him.
Seeing no one else around, she suddenly stepped forward, recalling a dance step she had coincidentally learned in a drama class.
Simultaneously, she raised her hand to make a gesture, picking up where Michael had left off in the play's lines. Michael hadn't even finished his second sip of coffee when he looked up at Jessica, bursting into laughter. "You know quite a bit, don't you?"
"Just a little bit," Jessica replied, lowering her hand and smiling at Michael.
Michael waved her over, inviting her to join him for coffee. After a few words, Jessica and Michael began chatting happily once again.
Michael even offered Jessica a taste of his coffee. Although she wanted to try it, her slightly swollen and painful lips made her hesitant, especially since hot tea would likely worsen the redness and swelling. She refrained from drinking, fearing she might reveal too much pain on her face after taking a sip.
As Gabriel walked by and heard the cheerful conversation between Michael and Jessica, he approached and witnessed the harmonious scene.
Before he could get closer, Michael also noticed him and immediately changed his expression, shouting at him with vigor, "In the future, let Jessica come to the house to accompany me when she has time. Don't hide her by your side for so long! You dare hide my granddaughter-in-law for so long!"
