Chapter 451 The Doorknob Slightly Turns

"Grandpa's in bad shape. He got rushed to the ER two nights ago and he's still out cold. Your useless dad, Eugene, has been sucking up in Washington for the last two years. His only card to play now is you and that ridiculous marriage announcement!"

As Daniel spoke, he suddenly grabbed Jessica's wrist and yanked her hard. She tried to dodge, but with the couch right behind her, she couldn't move fast enough and got caught. He then threw her onto the sofa.

"What did you do to snag Gabriel?" he demanded. "I thought you were just a little orphan, no one to back you up after you dumped the Jenners. But you're pretty clever, getting involved with the Harriman Group. And you claim you have no ambition?"

"Ambition? You've been a scaredy-cat for years, always watching your back around me. If I really had that ambition, would you still be standing here?" Jessica shot back, trying to get up again.

But Daniel grabbed her wrist again, harder this time. "How did I not see that a woman with no decent background like you could pull this off? Looks like Grandpa had you figured out. He always thought you'd come back to the Jenner family. Even if he didn't say it, everyone knew he was waiting for you. Now I see why. He was after Gabriel Harriman all along!"

Jessica let out a cold laugh, shook off his hand, and stood up abruptly, stepping forward. "So what if I'm marrying into the Harriman family? Is it that terrifying? You blame Michael for thinking you're useless and never considering you for the family fortune. Have you ever considered that you're simply… useless?"

Jessica walked forward, making Daniel, who had been all tough, take a step back. He realized he was being intimidated by her and stopped, his face darkening.

"For the past two years, you've been so paranoid about me, a cousin just trying to make it in the entertainment industry, let alone hearing the name Gabriel." Jessica said, looking him up and down with a mocking smile.

"Daniel, you're not smart enough to orchestrate this constant harassment on your own. I don't know the details of the feud between your parents and Michael, nor do I care about the Washington Jenner family. Even though Eugene is my biological father, he never asked my permission for his actions. Your constant troublemaking is just because you see me as a woman with a child, thinking if you push me to the edge, I'd be defenseless. You've had this idea for two years and yet you haven't learned any proper business tactics, just these petty acts of revenge. I have to wonder how Donald sees you, this fool. Wasn't he pushed into the emergency room because of you?"

Daniel suddenly turned his head with a vicious smile, then looked back at her. "Jessica, are you trying to provoke me?"

"If I don't provoke you, you're already this stupid and impulsive. If you don't kill me, you probably won't sleep well for the rest of your life. Isn't that why you're here?" Jessica said, eyeing Daniel's hand as it kept reaching into his pocket.

He was trying to scare her.

She knew that even if he had bribed security to get into her apartment, he would have been checked for weapons. There was no way he could have brought anything dangerous.

It meant he was here to intimidate, not to kill.

Even if he wanted her dead, he wouldn't be dumb enough to do it under the hallway cameras. That would be a death sentence for him too.

"You're right. If I don't kill you, I really can't sleep well." Daniel said, suddenly stepping forward and grabbing Jessica's hair, dragging her towards the window.

Jessica's apartment was on the sixteenth floor, and the living room windows were open. If he wanted to push her out, it would be easy.

As she struggled, she glanced towards the bedroom door, hearing the faint sound of the doorknob turning. She suddenly stopped struggling and shouted, "Daniel, I warn you, don't do anything crazy! This is the sixteenth floor!"

Hearing "sixteenth floor," Daniel, already enraged, was further provoked. He had only intended to scare her, but now he forcefully dragged Jessica by her hair towards the window.

The bedroom door, which should have opened a second ago, remained closed after Jessica's overly deliberate shout, staying as quiet as before.

Completely unaware of the third person in the apartment, Daniel, driven by his surging anger, saw Jessica struggling and looked at her. He saw the growing irrationality in Daniel's eyes as he impulsively dragged her by her hair. She suddenly raised her hand, making a terrified resistance gesture, trying to free her hair from his grip.

Seeing Jessica's fear and her pale face from the pain, Daniel, in a fit of rage, dragged her towards the window, pressing her against the window with only a screen. His eyes, red with anger, glared at her as he threatened, "I'll end this once and for all today! Mrs. Harriman? Go to hell and be Mrs. Harriman there!"

Jessica's hand fumbled near the potted plant by the window, quickly finding the drawer handle on the small table beside the sofa. She suddenly pulled it open, grabbed the safety hammer inside, and unexpectedly struck his arm with it.

"Ah!" Daniel screamed in pain, his hand releasing her hair.

Taking advantage of the moment when Daniel retracted his arm in pain, Jessica grabbed everything she could and threw it at him. The potted plant was too heavy to lift with one hand, so she held the safety hammer in one hand and grabbed the soil from the pot with the other, throwing it towards his face. As Daniel retreated in pain and anger, she quickly closed the window behind her. Then, as he was about to trip over the carpet, she mercilessly kicked him in the abdomen with her high heel.

"Jessica, you bitch!" Daniel staggered and fell, his face covered in dirt. He barely opened his eyes, only to be slapped hard by Jessica, making his eyes bloodshot and filled with disbelief as he looked up at her.
