Chapter 209 Stumbling Upon an Incredible Scene

Chapter 209 Stumbling Upon an Unbelievable Scene

Jessica instinctively curled her toes on the carpet. "What are you doing?"

Gabriel's dark eyes held hers intensely for a moment, seeing her just standing there like a statue, refusing to move.

Jessica seemed to hear a very light sigh from him. Then, to her surprise, the usually aloof and noble Gabriel bent down, picked up the pair of disposable hotel slippers from the floor, and straightened before walking towards her.

As the tall, handsome man approached, he glanced at her, then bent down again to place the slippers at her feet, saying in a deep voice, "Put on the shoes."

Jessica instinctively lifted her foot, not considering that Gabriel was essentially helping her put on the shoes. Once she had them on, Gabriel straightened up again. The moment their eyes met, Jessica quickly said, "I'll go back my room now."

Before she could finish her sentence, her stomach let out a faint growl.

The director and the others had barbecue for dinner, and Jessica had only eaten two pieces. She hadn't had much else all day, and after soaking in the bath for too long, she was now extremely hungry.

'Of all times, why now?' Jessica thought.

Gabriel raised his arm to stop Jessica, who was trying to run past him. The sudden resistance caused her to  stumble forward slightly before she quickly regained her balance.

Her loosely tied hair towel fell off instantly, and her half-dry, half-wet hair scattered messily over her shoulders. She froze, her eyes locking with Gabriel’s intense, dark stare.

The atmosphere suddenly felt a bit strange.

Given the circumstances—her just out of the bath and wrapped only in a bathrobe and a towel—the intimacy of the moment didn’t escape Jessica. She was acutely aware of the suggestive nature of their current situation.

Despite being clothed in a bathrobe and towel, she was conscious of not wearing anything underneath, which made the possibility of the towel slipping all the more precarious.

However, at this very moment, her stomach let out another couple of ungraceful growls.

Jessica smiled, pressing her stomach and checking to make sure her bathrobe and towel were still secure.

A voice came from above her head, "Didn't you eat anything?"

"Yeah, the crew had a barbecue at the resort tonight, but I'm not really into that kind of food."

Gabriel's phone vibrated a few times. The room was so quiet, and they were standing so close that even the vibration was clearly audible to Jessica.

It was a call from Wayne, saying that the company had just sent over a draft for a new project. It was supposed to be reviewed by another department, but there were some issues with the draft. He had just printed it out at the hotel's copy center and was bringing it up for Mr. Harriman to review, asking if it was convenient for him now.

Gabriel replied, "Bring it up directly."

After he hung up , Jessica looked out the window at the darkening sky. "Working so late, you CEOs really are on call 24/7, huh?"

"It's inevitable, especiallyat the end of the year."

Wayne had already come upstairs while making the call. After confirming that it was convenient for Gabriel, he used the spare key card for Gabriel's room, politely knocked twice, and then opened the door.

Jessica adjusted her hair over her shoulders and was about to speak when the door suddenly opened.

She instinctively looked up and saw Wayne entering with the stack of freshly printed documents. Before she could react, Gabriel had already pulled her behind him with one hand, his tall figure completely blocking her view of Wayne at the door.

Gabriel's tall, imposing figure of stood before her, his unique, cool aura enveloping Jessica almost instantly. Her heart pounded uncontrollably as she tried to peek around him to see Wayne, but Gabriel's hand gently but firmly pushed her back.

Gabriel then impatiently glanced at Wayne, who stood at the door, looking stunned and somewhat bewildered.

Wayne never expected to find Jessica in Gabriel's room.

Usually during business trips, although it was against the rules to enter Gabriel's room without permission, the assistants held spare key cards. Gabriel had implied over the phone that he wanted him to come over, suggesting it was a convenient time, right?

Who would have expected Jessica to be here?

He hadn't gotten a clear look earlier, but what was Jessica wearing?

A bathrobe?

Her hair didn't even seem dry.

It was obvious she had just taken a bath in Gabriel's room.

Had he just stumbled upon an unbelievable scene?

Wayne sensed that his career might be in serious jeopardy. His usual calm and composure were almost entirely gone as he met Gabriel's cold, sharp gaze with a look of terror.

This was the first time Jessica had seen Gabriel with such an expression. She had only heard about it before; he had never shown anger in her presence, nor had she ever seen him display such an aggressive demeanor. But the Gabriel before her now seemed to radiate an intense pressure, like thin snow on a mountaintop, radiating an unfamiliar and piercing coldness.

The tension in the room was so thick that it seemed  Gabriel might kick Wayne out the door at any moment.

A few seconds later, Wayne quickly placed the documents on the cabinet by the door, not daring to look again at the bathrobe-clad Jessica hidden behind Gabriel. With a face full of apology, he said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Harriman. I didn't see anything." Then he promptly retreated, closing the door behind him.

"You scared Wayne," Jessica said, stepping out from behind Gabriel and noticing the lingering coldness on his face.

Gabriel glanced at her. "What were you wearing when you came over?"

"I just live right across from you. I ran over to take a bath, so I only brought a change of clothes."

Gabriel looked at her bathrobe again, then raised his hand to adjust the collar of her robe. "Go back to your room and change into some clothes. I'll take you out for dinner."

"No need. I have instant pasta and cookies in my room. I can just have a quick bite." Jessica waved her hand. "You still have work to do. Don't worry about me."

She squatted down to pick up the hair towel from the floor. "Besides, my hair is still wet. Going downstairs to eat would take too much effort. It’s really not necessary, you go on with your work, I’m off."

With that, she quickly slipped out.

The door opened and then closed; Jessica swiftly pushed open the door across the hallway, and once again, the sound of a door closing echoed.

Gabriel picked up the documents from the cabinet and, after glancing through a few pages, called Wayne on his phone.

Wayne, still worried about losing his job, quickly answered the call, "Hello, Mr. Harriman."

"The proposal does have issues. I'll review it first. Order some food to be delivered to room 8805. Jessica hasn't eaten tonight."

So, the person in 8805 was indeed Jessica!

Wayne quickly agreed and hung up the phone, then set about finding which restaurant in Sunshine Bay City had the best food.

To keep his job, he had to make sure Jessica was well-fed!
