Chapter 198 Is He Pursuing you?
Chapter 198 Is He Pursuing You?
After Jessica's fever subsided, she slept for a few hours in the hotel room and woke up only after dinner time had passed.
Zoey had been by her side the whole time, and when Zoey saw Jessica wake up, she quickly helped her sit up and gave her water and medicine.
"Don't be so worried, I'm really fine," Jessica said after taking the medicine, leaning against the headboard. Seeing Zoey's still-concerned expression, she added, "It's just a cold and a fever; I'll be fine by tomorrow."
"Luckily, when you were being put into the ambulance, you squeezed my hand when no one was looking, or I would have been scared to death."
Zoey touched Jessica's forehead to make sure Jessica really didn't have a fever anymore, and her expression finally relaxed a bit.
Jessica chuckled softly, her voice still a bit hoarse. "If I hadn't reminded you, you would have cried all the way. Anyone who didn't know would have thought I was really dead."
"Your acting was too good; I thought you had really passed out!"
"The water was so cold at the time; even if I hadn't really passed out, I was almost frozen stiff."
"Jessica, you don't know; Donna was in shock today. She tried several times to explain to the director that it had nothing to do with her, but the director didn't really pay attention to her! I guess he's also scared of people like her. No matter how much he wants to side with her, he's very disappointed in her inside."
Jessica held her cup, took a few sips of hot water, and asked comfortably, "What did Mackenzie say?"
"Mackenzie posted photos of the argument from yesterday and even talked to the director about the issues in the crew. Anyway, Mackenzie became very assertive today because of your incident. She demanded that the crew strictly follow the contract's schedule for filming. The contract states that actors' filming time should not exceed ten hours a day, and Donna's excessive bloopers shouldn't be your responsibility."
Jessica continued to sip her water, her expression calm. "And then?"
"Then the director said he would have Donna's acting coach keep a closer eye on her, and the daily filming time would follow the contract. Additionally, the director subtly hinted to Mackenzie that they were also under pressure from the Nelson Group and had no choice."
Jessica looked at her phone for a while, read some news, and then put it down. "Tell the crew that my filming schedule will proceed as usual tomorrow; no need to give me a day off."
"Are you sure? The doctor suggested you rest for a couple of days."
"It's fine, just a minor cold."
Despite calling it a minor cold, Jessica occasionally felt dizzy on set the next day.
Fortunately, she didn't have any scenes with Donna today, so she didn't have to endure the torture of multiple bloopers, and the few scenes she had went smoothly.
During lunch, Kevin treated the whole crew to KFC. Everyone had either a burger or fried chicken except Jessica, who had the pasta which was personally delivered by Kevin.
Jessica was in the car, wrapped in a big coat and holding a warm cup of water when suddenly the window was knocked on. She turned to see Kevin standing outside, with a gentlemanly smile, raising the box of pasta.
Jessica opened the car door, and the pasta was handed to her.
"Since you have a cold, don't eat burgers and fried foods. Eat properly, and you'll recover faster," Kevin said, handing her a cup of KFC coffee. "The coffee is hot, with less sugar, just for you."
Jessica looked at Kevin standing outside the car, thinking that she wasn't that close to him. But since he had treated the whole crew to KFC, she couldn't refuse. She thanked him and didn't say much else.
After Kevin left and the car door was closed, Jessica exchanged glances with Zoey and Mackenzie. Mackenzie was straightforward. "In this show, isn't Kevin supposed to be dating Donna? Why is he being so nice to you? Did you know him before?"
Jessica replied, "No, the first time I met him was on the day we joined the crew."
Zoey, looking very gossipy, said, "Kevin is quite handsome. Is he pursuing you, Jessica?"
"I don't know." Jessica didn't dwell on it. She only took a couple of bites of the pasta before losing her appetite. She then picked up the thermos Mackenzie had brought and drank a few sips of the vegetable soup, which made her feel better.
Sick people really shouldn't eat greasy food; a light diet was much more palatable.
Seeing that Jessica had stopped eating, Zoey naturally picked up the pasta and started eating it. While munching, she said, "A love-filled lunch from the male lead is indeed different."
Mackenzie looked disdainful. "It's just KFC, and you're praising it like it's something special. Is the company lacking in food or drink for you?"
Zoey, still chewing on the pasta, mumbled, "It's different. I followed Kevin's last show; he's really handsome. I'm kind of a half-fan of his, so it means something different."
Mackenzie said, with a cold expression, "Studio members are forbidden from being fans. Watch yourself."
Zoey almost choked, quickly took a sip of water, patted her chest in fright, and put down the half-eaten pasta. She made a heart gesture with her hands towards Jessica and Mackenzie. "With Jessica and Mackenzie, through life and death, no divided loyalties. Being a fan is out of the question!"
Mackenzie snorted coldly. "Remember your words. If you dare to fangirl over another male artist, I'll break your legs!"
Zoey looked terrified and quickly took another bite of the food to calm herself down.
There were still two scenes to shoot before 5 PM, which were scenes between Jessica and Kevin. Although Donna and Kevin's characters were in a relationship in the show, there were also some emotional entanglements between Jessica and Kevin's characters. Still, Jessica's character eventually withdrew from the love triangle.
The two of them got into their roles, and the progress was excellent.
The director watched the footage on the monitor, very satisfied.
The assistant director, looking at Jessica on the screen, leaned over to the director and whispered, "The Nelson Group has given instructions. Should we have Jessica do a few more retakes?"
In the footage, Jessica's expressions, movements, and emotions were perfectly aligned with the script. It had to be said that she delivered an outstanding performance in every scene, even in such a troublesome crew.
The director didn't say anything at first. After calling "cut," he directly instructed the crew to prepare for the next scene.
The assistant director asked in confusion, "No retakes?"
The director pondered for a moment and then whispered, "Enough is enough. Good actors deserve respect, especially the younger generation of good actors, who are really rare. Don't bully them too much."
Almost the entire filming team had received hints from the Nelson Group and Donna.
Using such tactics to secure the Nelson Group's investment and gain favor from the investors by bullying Jessica, whose background was still unclear, was easy.
Even Kevin, the male lead, had been hinted at by the Nelson Group to not cooperate too well with Jessica and to have more bloopers to give her a hard time.
But clearly, Kevin, who was backed by a major entertainment company, didn't buy into it. He was fully committed to his role during filming and never paid attention to Donna or the Nelson Group.
The scenes between Kevin and Jessica were so perfect that the director couldn't bear to delete and reshoot them.
He wished more than anything that Donna, with her terrible acting skills, would disappear from the crew and stop tormenting everyone!
