Chapter 280 Mr. Harriman Also Works at Nnight.
Fans quickly shifted their focus to another movie Trinity was set to release next month. Some thought she was using the current drama to drum up buzz, hoping for good reviews and box office success for her next film.
Fans started digging into her upcoming movie, scrutinizing everything from the script to the cast and crew. Their deep dive uncovered a dark past involving the second male lead, who had a history of drug use.
The film's PR team scrambled to manage the crisis, but it was too late. The issue had been buried before, allowing the actor to keep working, but the increased scrutiny due to Trinity's situation brought it to light. The next evening, the film's production company announced on Facebook that the release date was indefinitely postponed.
In response, all advertisers who had deals with Trinity issued statements ending their contracts with her.
After that, Trinity stopped engaging in Facebook battles and, in a fit of anger, deleted all her posts and closed her private messages.
Such a drastic change was unexpected.
Trinity had never faced any major setbacks growing up, always believing things would go her way if she wanted them to. But one misstep led to another.
Moreover, the Jenner family's secrets were unearthed by fans, and Eugene's long-hidden secret about Jessica being an illegitimate child was suddenly revealed by Jessica herself. Eugene didn't even have the chance to confront Jessica before being summoned back to the Jenner family in D.C., in the middle of the night. The Sunroy Group tried to block the news, but it was too late; the information couldn't be contained.
Mackenzie and the others bought a bunch of food and drinks and brought them back to the studio for everyone to enjoy.
Jessica joined in the fun but got a WhatsApp message after just a few bites.
Gabriel sent a location message.
Jessica opened it and saw it was the headquarters of Xyleria Harriman Group.
She couldn't help but smile and quickly replied.
Jessica: [You're back in Xyleria?]
Gabriel: [Just got back. Staying at the office tonight to handle some unfinished business. I'll be free tomorrow to spend time with you.]
Seeing his last sentence, Jessica felt a surge of joy and sweetness. She knew he was usually very busy and had never expected him to take time off just to be with her.
But knowing he had set aside time for her tomorrow made her heart flutter with happiness.
Even though it was for tomorrow, Jessica couldn't wait. She left the studio and drove to the Harriman Group building, parking in the plaza in front of the office tower. She sat in her car, staring at the building for a long time.
Gabriel had work to do tonight, so she wouldn't disturb him. But just knowing he was back in Xyleria, in that building, made the freezing weather outside feel less cold.
Was this what it felt like to be in a good relationship?
Even if they didn't meet, just being in the same city and feeling close to each other brought happiness and satisfaction.
Jessica had been sitting in the car for too long, so she decided to get out and walk around the plaza, admiring the beautiful lights.
As she was about to take a photo of the lights, a voice suddenly called out, "Ms. Jenner?"
Jessica turned around and saw Wayne, dressed in a suit, holding a coat, as if he had just left the office.
"Wayne," Jessica greeted him with a smile.
"Here to see Mr. Harriman?" Wayne teased, noticing Jessica's determined spirit. "It's freezing out here. Why not go inside instead of waiting?"
"No, Mr. Harriman is busy tonight. I was just passing by and thought the plaza lights were beautiful, so I wanted to take some photos for my social media."
"Mr. Harriman is indeed staying at the office tonight because some data on the office computers can't be transferred out. He needs to coordinate with companies in D.C. and overseas, so he won't be leaving tonight. But working late doesn't mean he's too busy. You can go up and see him," Wayne said, handing her a work card. "This card gives you access to the executive elevator. Go on up; don't freeze out here, or Mr. Harriman will be worried."
Jessica hesitated but took the card, asking, "Can I really go to the executive office during his work hours?"
"Others can't, but you can." Wayne smiled. "It's almost 8 PM, and the other assistants and employees on the 68th floor have already left. Besides Mr. Harriman, I'm the last one to leave. There's no one else up there."
Jessica's ears turned red, thankfully hidden by her hat. "I didn't ask if there were other people."
Wayne laughed. "I just thought you might mind being recognized since you're so popular now."
Gabriel didn't mind, so why should she?
Jessica didn't say much more and nodded to Wayne. "Alright, I'll go up and take a look without disturbing his work."
"Okay, I'll head home then. Goodbye," Wayne said politely, putting on his coat and leaving.
Jessica was about to head to the office building when she suddenly turned back and asked, "Has he had dinner?"
Wayne replied, "No."
Jessica looked around and saw several high-end restaurants and a 24-hour convenience store nearby.
After thanking Wayne, she went to the convenience store, bought two microwaveable meals, a bag of pasta, eggs, some vegetables, and seasonings.
She remembered that her character in a film had a large office with a rest area where she could cook. She wondered if Gabriel's office had a similar setup. If it did, she could cook pasta instead of eating the microwave meals. She remembered that he always liked her egg-braised pasta.
Leaving the convenience store with her bags, she walked towards the Harriman Group building. She looked up at the 68th floor, which was still lit, and thought, 'I'm not here to disturb your work; I'm here to bring you food.' With that, she took a deep breath and headed for the executive elevator with the card Wayne had given her.
Although many employees had left, there were still security guards and a receptionist on duty on the first floor. They watched in surprise as a woman hurriedly entered the exclusive elevator, wondering if they should stop her. After all, not just anyone could have that card.
The security guard on patrol quickly contacted the security manager, who then called the company's internal line. This line usually didn't get through, but during after-hours, it could directly reach the executive office. "Mr. Harriman, a woman just entered the executive elevator with a bag. Should we remove her immediately?"
Gabriel, hearing this, casually clicked his wireless mouse, and the elevator's surveillance feed appeared on a screen in the corner of his office.
Jessica, bundled up against the cold, looked like a polar bear with her thick clothes and large shopping bags.
The security manager was ready to send someone to intercept the woman, but Gabriel, usually calm and composed, replied in a relaxed tone, "No need to stop her. Let her come up."
