Chapter 346 That Black Bentley
Everyone in the studio knew what was up.
Jessica might be doing well in the industry and always pushing to get ahead, but she was seriously thinking about stepping back , hoping to secure a comfortable and peaceful life for Danielle.
Nobody knew when she might just quit acting and drop all her endorsements, or when she might vanish from the spotlight altogether.
She envisioned a future outside the entertainment world, free from romantic entanglements, just her and Danielle.
Danielle had one more year before starting elementary school. Deciding whether to stay in the country or move abroad before then was a big deal, but Jessica hadn't made her thoughts clear yet. She definitely had her own plans.
Today, Jessica had some online interviews and was answering questions on her phone in the nanny van.
The car was quiet; nobody wanted to interrupt her.
Just as she was about to finish up, she felt a jolt, her limbs went numb, and a loud noise filled her ears.
She almost dropped her phone. Zoey and Stephen, sitting next to her, quickly leaned in, both looking ahead in surprise.
"What happened?" Zoey asked.
The driver frowned. "We had a collision. Someone was driving against traffic."
He got out to deal with the other driver.
Jessica looked outside and saw a red BMW X7 that had swerved into their lane to overtake, driving against traffic.
"Who drives like that?" Lynn, sitting in the front passenger seat, said, annoyed. She turned to Jessica with a knowing look. "I saw an old acquaintance get out of that car."
Jessica raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
"Donna."
Zoey immediately looked disgusted. "Her? Didn't Carl dump her a year ago? Who's she with now? Driving against traffic in the city, so arrogant."
Stephen sneered, "As long as she's willing to call someone 'daddy,' any rich guy can be her godfather. If she's willing to call them godfather, she can rely on anyone she wants. It's just a change of 'daddy.'"
The studio only had these two assistants, and both of them couldn't stand Donna.
Jessica glanced at them and decided to get out of the car to check things out.
Their nanny van's front bumper was deformed, and the front headlight was shattered, but the car body was okay. Their speed made them lucky to escape with minor injuries. A larger vehicle could have been disastrous.
Donna was arguing with Jessica's driver. In her haste, she hadn't noticed it was Jessica's studio's car, as it looked like a regular business van.
"Explaining to me is useless. When the traffic cops get here and check the dashcam, whoever's at fault will be held responsible. You were clearly driving against traffic, so what's there to argue about?" the driver said impatiently to Donna.
"How can you, a grown man, be like this? Your car may not be cheap, but it's just a bumper and a headlight. Is it necessary to..."
Before Donna could finish, she noticed someone else getting out of the car and saw Jessica. Her expression froze, and she looked at the car again.
"Long time no see, Miss Martin." Jessica walked over confidently, standing next to Donna, and casually glanced at the damage on both cars. "Aren't we quite fated?"
Seeing Jessica, Donna felt at a loss for words, extremely frustrated.
Jessica, as if not noticing Donna's reluctance, smiled and said, "It's just a bumper and a headlight, but a traffic accident should be handled properly. My driver is very reasonable, and I hope Miss Martin can handle this calmly. Don't let a minor accident cause a conflict; I'm afraid youcan't handle it."
Last September, at Paris Fashion Week, Jessica was invited to attend. Lynn had arranged a front-row seat for her with other top celebrities.
Donna, slated for the second row, was unhappy to discover Jessica in the front. She had already switched her backer by then, though it was unclear to whom. Donna placed an order worth over seven hundred thousand dollars with the brand and flaunted her close relationship with them in the media, trying to overshadow Jessica.
Jessica couldn't make it to the show due to a last-minute issue, so she canceled her attendance.
Donna got her front-row seat, but the next day, the brand faced backlash and boycotts due to the brand manager's offensive comments online.
The brand's arrogant refusal to admit their mistake and attempt to scapegoat a junior employee led to widespread boycotts. Many collaborating brands quickly issued PR statements to distance themselves, and celebrities who attended the show posted patriotic messages on social media to protect themselves.
Donna's prominent seat and photos were highlighted in news reports, and she was also criticized by fans and netizens.
Furious, Donna ranted online about the brand manager, explaining her relationship with the brand, and demanded a refund, which was refused.
For the next ten months, Donna had almost no events or roles, seemingly blacklisted due to that incident. Everything she had flaunted to Jessica backfired on her.
As a result, Donna became particularly sensitive to Jessica's name.
Seeing Jessica again after so long, and under such circumstances, Donna decided to stay silent.. She told the driver, "Wait for the insurance company," and returned to her car, avoiding any interaction with Jessica.
Jessica didn't call her back, just looked at the deformed bumper and touched it.
The collision was quite severe.
She hadn't noticed if Donna smelled of alcohol earlier. If it wasn't drunk driving, how could she be driving so fast against traffic in the city?
Jessica looked up and noticed a black Bentley stopped in the middle of the wide road about thirty feet away due to a red light.
It was a new Bentley model, not the one she was familiar with, seemingly a new car, as it was shiny and unmarked.
The low-key, stable design caught her attention, and she couldn't help but take a second look.
