Chapter 515 The Ending
Everything was still the same as it used to be. Seeing Gabriel walk into the small kitchen with shopping bags, it felt like a long time ago when Gabriel, wearing the clothes she bought for him, would dutifully help her carry things inside. She could hear her playing around with Danielle outside, and Danielle would run into the kitchen, hugging his leg for help, constantly shouting, "Uncle Gabriel, save me! Mommy is going to turn into a tiger again. Look, doesn't Mommy look like a big tiger when she's angry?"
In a daze, she could still see herself holding a magazine, trying to kill cockroaches in the corners, while Danielle rolled around on the carpet.
Jessica quickly lowered her eyes and rubbed her slightly sore nose. "When did you buy this house back?"
Gabriel had already taken off his coat. He walked to the kitchen, opened the fridge to put the groceries in, and then washed his hands by the sink. The fabric of Gabriel's shirt subtly revealed the shape of his bones and muscles as he moved.
Gabriel took a moment to answer her while washing his hands. "Six months ago."
Jessica was even more surprised that everything in the house seemed unchanged.
"That middle-aged couple who bought the house were always away on business and had no time to come back or renovate. So, everything remained the same. After buying it back, I just did a simple cleaning and fixed all the wiring and plumbing. It really looks just like it did back then." Gabriel pulled a paper towel to wipe the water off his hands.
No wonder nothing had changed.
Jessica couldn't help but look back again.
She saw the old bedroom, the old living room, the old children's room. Everything was still there, just like before. It felt like time had returned to those days when life was aimless and slow. Little Danielle would climb onto a chair to steal cookies and cakes, only to have Jessica smack her hand.
Jessica sat by the window, looking outside. The neighborhood's old four-pane window still had stickers from who knows what year. Although they were a bit worn, they were exactly as she remembered.
Gabriel had bought a lot of groceries, but since it was just the two of them, he didn't cook too much. They had dinner there.
Jessica seemed to smell a familiar aroma and, approaching the dining table, suddenly saw that there were roasted ribs.
She was already hungry, so she didn't hesitate to grab some utensils and start eating.
It was still Gabriel's unique recipe, and the taste was just as amazing as it had been for her and Danielle back then. The mother and daughter used to sit in this very spot, exclaiming in unison over a plate of Gabriel's homemade roasted ribs, "Wow, this is so good."
Gabriel took a napkin and placed it on the table. Seeing that Jessica had already eaten a few ribs without hesitation, he looked down at her and chuckled softly, "There's more in the kitchen. You can have as many roasted ribs as you want; they're all yours."
Jessica paused, rib-eating, looked up at him, and blinked, remembering the things she had said about her childhood at Golden Fortune Restaurant.
Gabriel sat down and helped her portion out the ribs on a plate to cool them down so she wouldn't burn herself. Then, she placed them in front of her.
On the wooden dining table under the old four-pane window, without a marble top, there was a warm and loving atmosphere that filled Jessica's eyes.
A year later.
With the airing of the couple's reality show that Jessica and Gabriel participated in six months ago, Jessica's movie "Shadow Kill" was also released during the Christmas season.
On the first day, "Shadow Kill" was overshadowed by two comedy movies, but by the second and third days, word of mouth began to spread. It quickly surpassed the two comedies in box office revenue and continued to soar in both box office and reviews. A month later, it achieved an excellent box office result of $6 billion, taking the top spot in domestic box office rankings.
Since the grand wedding a year ago, Jessica had retired from the spotlight. She only occasionally appeared in recent reality shows, and with the release of "Shadow Kill," she finally returned to the public eye.
Another year passed, and at the year-end film awards ceremony, Jessica stood on stage holding the Best Actress trophy, smiling at the handsome figure in the front row center seat. She thanked all her fans and supporters, the entire crew of "Shadow Kill," and everyone else. She also announced that after tonight, she would be retiring from the entertainment industry, and there would be no more Jessica in the entertainment world.
The internet was in an uproar. Only a small number of fans who had connections with her studio had heard rumors that Jessica might be taking time off to study business management abroad. In the past two years, she occasionally flew back to Washington to inspect various companies of the Jenner family. Fans were sleepless over Jessica's retirement, but they also uncovered her background with the Jenner family in Washington.
Fans lamented: [So, after all the acting, she still has to go back and inherit billions of dollars in family assets!]
On the night of the awards ceremony, media reporters quietly followed Jessica, only to see her get into a black business van. When the door opened, they could only see a little girl in a Xyleria private school uniform sitting inside doing homework, with a custom-made cradle next to her, and the faint sound of a lullaby coming from the van.
Xyleria hadn't seen any snow this year, but tonight, light snowflakes began to fall. The tall and handsome Gabriel, wearing a black coat, embraced Jessica, who had just changed out of her gown, and got into the van. The door closed, cutting off the sound of the soothing lullaby.
