Chapter 100 Fulfilling Jessica's Request
As soon as the call connected, Jessica immediately asked, "Have you seen the news today?"
"I have," he replied, with a low voice.
"Are you angry?" Jessica tentatively asked.
"Yes, very angry."
Facing Jessica, he was trying to control his anger as much as possible.
"What would you do if you found that person?" Jessica asked again.
"I would sue for defamation, leave the rest to the legal team, and it's inevitable that the person spreading rumors will end up in jail."
Upon hearing this, Jessica's heart sank even further.
Although she had expected that Gabriel would not let it go easily, the extent to which it escalated to "jail" was beyond her expectations.
Before her mother passed by, she had told her that if Carter did something wrong, as long as it wasn't too serious, she should help him, considering their father-daughter relationship. She couldn't simply ignore the situation.
This was her mother's dying wish, and she couldn't bear to refuse it.
Moreover, he was her father after all, and the biological relationship meant she couldn't be indifferent to him.
She could refrain from giving him money, avoid seeing him, or even pretend he didn't exist.
But if he truly faced imprisonment, how could she stand by and do nothing?
Moreover...
Jessica reached out to touch her belly, where a lively little life was already growing.
If her baby's grandfather ended up in jail with a criminal record, it would also affect the baby.
As a mother, that was something she absolutely couldn't allow.
Taking a deep breath, Jessica spoke into the phone, "I'm sorry, Gabriel. It was my father who did this."
"What did you say?"
If Jessica hadn't heard Gabriel say it herself, she would have almost thought she had misheard.
"You heard me right. It was indeed him. He came to see me yesterday and claimed to have secretly taken photos of you and Diana together, thinking you were cheating, so he was angry and felt sorry for me."
"I sent him away, but I didn't expect..."
Even without saying the rest, Jessica's implications were clear.
"Why are you telling me this?" Gabriel asked.
"With your capabilities, even if I didn't say anything, I believe you would soon find out. And..."
With a helpless voice, she hesitated. "After all, he's my father. I can't bring myself to watch him be imprisoned."
"So you're calling to ask me to let him go?"
"Yes."
After saying this, Jessica held onto her phone tightly.
During the wait, she felt extremely anxious, especially with cold sweat breaking out in her palms.
Would he agree?
After all, this was not a small request.
Jessica knew very well that if it were someone else, Gabriel would definitely prosecute upon finding out the truth, without mercy.
But what about her?
Would there be a slight exception for her?
Anxiously, Jessica's heart raced. As she felt her heart rise to her throat, suddenly, Gabriel's voice came through from the other end.
"Alright."
Alright?
Did he just say alright?
Jessica was stunned, holding onto her phone in a daze for several seconds before she managed to react and asked again, "Are you serious? Are you really agreeing not to pursue this?"
"Yes."
His voice, though concise, was firm and resolute.
Jessica was overjoyed, perhaps too excited, when suddenly tears welled up in her eyes.
"Thank you, Gabriel, thank you so much!" Jessica was genuinely excited. Gabriel's response was completely unexpected.
She had anticipated a lot of effort and even prepared numerous arguments.
But in the end, none of it was necessary.
"I did agree. Why are you crying then?"
Through the phone, Gabriel quickly picked up on the sound of her tears, speaking gently.
Jessica immediately wiped away her tears, smiling, "I'm happy and surprised, because I didn't expect you to agree."
"Well, I'm curious. What if I hadn't agreed?"
"Then I would have done my best, done what I could, and left the rest to fate."
After hanging up, Jessica immediately called Carter.
Upon receiving her call, Carter was very pleased. "Daughter, have you seen today's trending? How about my move? Isn't it brilliant?"
"Let me tell you, Gabriel truly divorces and ends up with that despicable Diana, it will truly be regarded as the affair rumors. Even if you sue for divorce, the judge and public opinion will definitely be on your side."
"Are you done?" Jessica asked coldly.
Then she continued, "I have already told Gabriel about what you did."
"What?" Carter couldn't believe what he was hearing. After realizing it, he immediately burst out in anger, "Jessica, you heartless traitor, how could you betray me?"
Jessica sneered, "If I weren't humane, you would have been in jail long ago."
"Jail?" Carter simply couldn't believe it. "How is that possible? I just posted something and sold a few photos. You’re attempting to scare me."
"I'm not trying to scare you because your actions have affected Gabriel's image, and Walton Group's stocks have plummeted. You have caused reputational damage to Gabriel. Walton Group's legal team is nationally renowned. Once they step in, you will definitely end up in jail."
Carter still didn't believe. "You're just trying to scare me. Do you think I'll be afraid of going to jail?"
"If you're not afraid, that's fine. You can continue like this, but don't blame me for not saving you at this time," Jessica said angrily.
"Carter, this is my final warning. Even if I can save you temporarily, I can't save you forever. Don't challenge Gabriel again, or you will definitely pay a heavy price."
After saying this, without waiting for Carter's response, Jessica hung up the phone.
Two phone calls seemed to have drained all her energy.
She was exhausted.
At noon, Jessica took a nap.
But she didn't sleep as long as usual.
Upon waking up, Jessica changed her clothes and had the driver take her to the supermarket.
Gabriel had shown mercy to Carter this time, and she had to thank him in some way.
Cooking was something she could do for him.
Although her cooking skills weren't great, her intention mattered most.
After buying groceries, Jessica busied herself in the kitchen.
Avery also came by, thinking Jessica might have overlooked something or that the food she made wasn't to her liking.
Jessica reassured her with a smile "No, Avery, your cooking is delicious. I just felt like cooking myself today."
"I see, Mrs. Walton almost gave me a scare."
Jessica sent Avery back, and around six in the evening, Gabriel returned home.
As soon as he arrived, he caught a whiff of a strong fragrance.
He wanted to enter the kitchen, assuming Avery was busy preparing a delicious meal for the evening.
But as soon as he stepped in and saw the busy figure in the kitchen, he froze.
