Chapter 722 Breaking the Engagement 1

Quentin gazed at her, his tone unmistakably gentle. Yet the words that escaped his lips were the cruelest of all. "The ring is not for you."

"What?"

Caroline's eyes widened in complete disbelief.

"Quentin, say that again."

Even now, Caroline still refuses to believe it.

"I said, the ring is not for you. Its true owner is someone else."

Quentin looked at her and spoke again, his slow, serious voice repeating the words.

This time, Caroline had no choice but to believe it, even if she didn't want to.

But she couldn't accept this fact.

"Quentin," She opened her mouth, struggling to get the words out. "You're lying to me, you're joking, right?"

"A ring isn't just any other thing; it's not something you can give away casually. I'm your fiancée. Who else could you give it to besides me?"

Caroline tried to see even a hint of hesitation on his face.

However, she was wrong.

Quentin just pressed his lips together, looking at her seriously, "You're right, a ring can't be given away casually. Once it's given, it's for a lifetime."

"So, I came to see you today for something even more important. I wanted to tell you myself rather than you finding out passively from the media."

"Consider it my last attempt to make amends to you."

Caroline's lips trembled. "What is it?"

For some reason, she had a very bad feeling in her heart.

Suddenly, she thought of something.

Caroline reached out, covering her ears forcefully, shaking her head desperately.

"No, Quentin, I don't want to hear it. Don't say it."

"Please, don't say it."

She shook her head in resistance, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Quentin just looked at her calmly. He shouldn't soften, nor should he hesitate.

Stepping forward, he grabbed Caroline's hands, "Caroline, calm down and listen to me."

"We're not suitable for each other. Whether it's our personalities, interests, or views on emotions, we're incompatible in every way. Apart from being a good match on paper, we have nothing in common."

"So, this marriage should have been called off long ago."

"I don't want to lie to you. The reason I haven't called it off is partly because of the feelings between our families and not wanting to embarrass you, and partly because of my mom. I've been enduring it, not resisting her unless absolutely necessary."

"But that's not the main point. The most important thing is, I've been waiting for someone to speak up."

Caroline could no longer listen.

Quentin's words were like knives, stabbing her heart.

"Don't say it, I don't want to hear it."

"Quentin, I'm begging you, don't say it."

But Quentin spoke forcefully, "No, I have to say it."

"I told you before, I have someone I love. Maintaining this engagement with you was just to force her to face her feelings and admit she loves me."

"Caroline, the person I love has always been her, and that has never changed."

"I've wronged you, and I'll take full responsibility for any losses caused to the Stewart family."

Caroline kept crying.

She had thought this would be the happiest day. She even wore her prettiest dress, joyfully waiting for him.

But she never expected it to be the cruelest day.

"Quentin, you're really cruel to me, you know that?"

Unable to hold back any longer, Caroline shouted at him.

She squatted on the floor, looking devastated.

Quentin pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, "Wipe your tears."

"I don't want it."

The room was extremely quiet, and the two of them were at a standstill.

After a long time, Caroline suddenly looked up, "Quentin, you're lying to me, right? You said you have someone you love. Who is she? Why have I never seen her?"

"Even if you didn't ask, I would have told you."

Quentin spoke slowly, "You've met her. Last time, I took her shopping, and you saw her. And yesterday, you saw her in my office."

"Caroline, she's not my secretary; she's the one I love. Even though you don't like celebrities and rarely watch TV, and she has left the entertainment industry for several years, you should know her name, Grace Morgan."

Hearing this name, Caroline completely broke down.

She looked up, her face covered in tears, "Why? Quentin, why did you have to tell me this yourself?"

"You're right, how could I not know the name Grace? How could I not know her face? But..."

She clutched her chest desperately, painfully questioning, "I've been trying so hard to forget this person. Why do you have to bring her up in front of me?"

"Why? Why won't you even give me the chance to numb and deceive myself?"

"Quentin, you're so cruel to me."

Caroline cried so hard she could barely breathe.

But her sadness couldn't change anything.

"I'll tell the media about the annulment tomorrow. Starting tomorrow, we have no relationship."

"Also, there's something I must tell you. Whether it's my mom or you, I won't allow anyone to hurt her. She's my bottom line, and anyone who crosses it, I won't show any mercy."

The last sentence was an unmistakable threat.

After saying that, Quentin didn't hesitate any longer.

He turned and walked away with large strides.

Caroline suddenly stood up, running towards him and hugging his waist.

"Quentin, please don't leave me. I love you, I really, really love you."

"As long as you're willing to marry me, I can turn a blind eye. You can keep her as a mistress, as long as you don't do it in front of me, I won't interfere."

"For you, I'm willing to make any compromise."

Quentin looked at her and answered solemnly, "Grace is a simple, pure-hearted person. When it comes to love, she wants loyalty and unwavering faithfulness."

"She longs for marriage, for a home. Whatever she wants, I'll give her."

"Caroline, forget about me. You can find someone more suitable for you."

Quentin pushed her hands away and walked out resolutely.

Watching his tall, upright figure, Caroline couldn't hold back any longer and shouted, "Quentin, you won't succeed."

"Grace is just an actress with a lot of scandals. Mrs. Taft and the entire Taft family won't agree to you marrying her."

Quentin didn't look back at her, leaving only a cold remark.

"That's my business, not yours."

"You just need to take care of yourself."

Grace was woken up by her phone the next day.

Her phone kept ringing, one call after another.
