Chapter 487 So Warm It Makes You Want to Cry
Jonah was the first to speak. "Don't tell Jessica about Gabriel yet. If she finds out, she'll break down."
"Danielle just had a car accident, and Jessica has been busy all day. Now, there's a risk of her losing the baby. If she finds out about Gabriel, I'm really afraid she won't be able to handle it."
Chelsea and Henry nodded in unison. "Dad, we understand. Don't worry."
"Chelsea, if you have time these days, spend more time with Jessica."
"Okay."
At this moment, Tina returned after finishing her phone call.
She noticed a tear hanging from the corner of Jessica's eye.
"Why are you crying? Did something happen?" Tina asked with concern.
Jessica wiped her tears and said, "Vincent is right. I must be strong."
"You know, Jonah knew about Gabriel's accident long ago. We all knew, but we kept it from each other for the sake of their health."
"Today, I was especially moved, so I need to pull myself together even more."
"Stay strong, Jessica. I believe you can do it."
Around five in the afternoon, Jessica woke up groggily.
She suddenly heard familiar voices coming from the hallway.
The door was pushed open, and she saw Gilbert and Freddy running towards her.
"Mommy, why are you in the hospital?"
"Mommy, does it hurt when you get shots?"
Seeing the worry on their faces, Jessica's heart melted instantly.
"Freddy, Gilbert." Jessica reached out to touch their heads and gently explained, "I'm not sick, so you don't need to worry."
"Then why are you staying in the hospital, Mommy?"
Jessica said softly, "Tell me honestly, haven't you always wanted a little sister?"
Hearing this, Gilbert and Freddy immediately remembered what Gabriel had said.
Dad said that if Mom had a baby, it would be very hard for her, and she would feel very uncomfortable.
They didn't want Mom to feel bad; they just wanted her to be happy.
So, Gilbert and Freddy looked at each other.
In the end, they both shook their heads. "Mommy, no."
"Silly kids, what if I told you I'm in the hospital because I have a baby girl in my tummy? Wouldn't you be happy?"
Hearing this news, Gilbert and Freddy's mouths dropped open in disbelief.
"Mommy? You're not lying to us?"
"Mommy, do you have a baby girl in your tummy?"
After all, they were just kids. As soon as Jessica said it, they started dancing with joy, forgetting their earlier words about not wanting a sister.
Jessica nodded seriously. "Yes, I already have a baby in my tummy."
Hearing the confirmation, Gilbert and Freddy's eyes lit up.
Immediately, they quickly got off Jessica.
"Why aren't you hugging me anymore?" Seeing them get off the bed, Jessica felt a bit disappointed.
Gilbert and Freddy said in unison. "Mommy has a baby girl in your tummy; we can't press on you."
Jessica was amused by their innocent words. Although her smile was pale and tinged with bitterness, having Gilbert and Freddy with her made her feel much lighter and happier.
"The baby girl is very small, only the size of a grape, and my tummy protects her, so you don't need to worry about pressing on her."
Unexpectedly, Gilbert and Freddy insisted. "No, we are the big brothers, and we must protect our sister."
"Okay," Jessica pinched their cheeks, feeling very gratified. "Gilbert and Freddy have grown up; you are both such responsible kids now."
"Mommy, don't worry. When the baby girl is born, we will protect our sister, feed her, play with her, and buy her lots of pretty clothes."
Seeing the smiles on their faces, Jessica felt genuinely happy.
Unbeknownst to them, Gilbert and Freddy had grown so much.
Their smiles were so joyful, so innocent, and endearing!
But they didn't know that their dad had an accident and that they wouldn't see him forever.
And their beloved grandma was now lying in a ward, barely clinging to life with the help of machines and oxygen.
Their grandma might never open her eyes to see them again or play with them.
If they knew how heartbroken they would be.
Thinking of this, Jessica's heart was immediately filled with deep sadness.
But she had to hold it in.
She couldn't show it.
But Freddy, always sensitive and perceptive, noticed Jessica's smile fading and her face turning pale. He immediately spoke up, "Mommy, are you feeling very uncomfortable?"
"Freddy, why do you say that?"
"Because Dad said that when Mom is pregnant, she will throw up, feel very uncomfortable, and might even cry."
Jessica smiled bitterly to cover it up. "Yes, I just feel a bit uncomfortable."
Freddy immediately flattened the pillow behind Jessica and said, "Then, Mommy, you should lie down quickly."
Meanwhile, Gilbert went to get some warm water.
Thinking it would be hard for Mommy to drink water lying down, Gilbert even asked the nurse for a straw.
"Mommy, this is warm water; you can drink it."
Gilbert held the cup and thoughtfully put the straw into Jessica's mouth.
On the other side, Freddy picked up a peeler and an apple.
Chelsea, worried about safety, immediately walked over: "Freddy, do you want to eat an apple? Let me peel it for you."
Unexpectedly, Freddy shook his head. "No, Aunt Chelsea, it's not for me. I want to peel it for Mommy."
Seeing Gilbert and Freddy's warm and considerate actions, Jessica couldn't hold back anymore, and tears started streaming down her face.
Seeing Jessica cry, Gilbert got a bit anxious. His little hands clumsily wiped the tears from Jessica's face. "Mommy, are you feeling uncomfortable again? Is the baby kicking you in your tummy?"
"Mommy, don't cry. If you don't like drinking water, I'll buy you juice tomorrow, okay? I know you like it the most."
Over there, Freddy also ran over to wipe her tears with concern.
Freddy then looked at Chelsea. "Aunt Chelsea, please cut the apple into small pieces so Mommy can eat it easily."
Jessica was already deeply moved by them.
Seeing them becoming more gentle, considerate, and well-behaved, her emotional defenses utterly collapsed.
How lucky she was to have such obedient sons.
She couldn't hold back anymore and hugged them tightly.
For a long time, she didn't let go.
Until Gilbert asked, "Mommy, now that you have a baby, when will Daddy come back? He would be so happy to hear this news."
