Chapter 336 The Best News
Jessica snuggled into his arms without a word. She thought she could enjoy a few peaceful days, but right after breakfast, Jack called.
Jessica really didn't want to pick up. But Jack was relentless, calling over and over. Knowing she'd see him at the hospital anyway, Jessica finally answered.
"Jessica, it's Jack."
"Yeah, I know. What do you want?"
"When can we talk?" he asked.
"Never. There's nothing left to say," Jessica shot back.
"If that's how you feel, I'll just find you at work."
"Jack, isn't that an abuse of power?"
"Jessica, I have no choice. Or we can talk now if you prefer."
Taking a deep breath, Jessica reluctantly agreed, "Fine, say what you need to say."
"My request is simple: delete all the videos of my mom and make sure they never go public."
Jessica couldn't help but laugh, "What videos?"
"Looks like they didn't tell you. Danielle had people take some videos of my mom and threatened to release them."
"Really? Even if those videos exist, it's between my mother-in-law and your mom. They've had issues for decades. Why do you think I can fix it?"
"Jessica," Jack's tone softened, almost pleading, "I know you can. Those videos would ruin my mom. I'll give you anything you want, just please forgive her."
"Too late. Jack, before you came to me, did you ask your mom what she did? When she kidnapped me and used videos to threaten me, did she ever think of sparing me?"
Not wanting to waste more time, Jessica hung up.
Just then, Gabriel walked in. Seeing Jessica's pale face and her chest heaving with anger, he rushed over. "What's wrong? Why are you so upset?"
"Jack had the nerve to ask me to return some videos of Patricia and forgive his mom. When Patricia kidnapped me, did she ever think of sparing me?"
Gabriel comforted her, "Don't worry about it. From now on, ignore Jack's calls. We'll handle Patricia. Right now, just focus on eating well and taking care of the baby."
"Okay." Jessica nodded.
Meanwhile, as soon as Jack got home, Patricia came running over, crying, "Jack, how did it go? You have to help me. I talked to your father, but he doesn't care at all. If those videos get out, at my age, how am I supposed to face others in the future? I might as well be dead."
Jack's face turned cold. He looked at Patricia seriously. "Mom, what are you hiding from me? Can you tell me the truth? What kidnapping, what threats?"
Realizing she couldn't hide it anymore, Patricia spilled everything. "Jack, I didn't mean to, and it wasn't as bad as you think. I just invited Jessica for tea, asked her not to marry Gabriel, and tried to persuade her to marry you."
Jack was speechless. He looked at Patricia, unable to say a word for a moment.
After a long silence, he sighed deeply and spoke helplessly, "Mom, how much trouble have you caused me? Forget about Jessica, she will never marry me."
Patricia shot back immediately, "How can that be? She has to marry you. If she doesn't, how are we supposed to get those shares? How can you win?"
"So what? You've already made a mess of things, and now you want me to grovel? Forget about the Walton family's assets. We can't beat Danielle, and Jonah has never acknowledged me."
"Why? You're a Walton. You deserve a share of the Walton family's assets." Patricia was naturally indignant.
For years, she had dreamed of securing the Walton family's wealth. She had endured countless hardships and being belittled by Danielle, all in anticipation of the day she could claim what she believed was rightfully hers.
Now, asking her to give up was like cutting her heart out with a knife. It was absolutely impossible.
"Mom, you're being unreasonable. Gabriel has already contacted me. He said unless you personally apologize to Jessica, they will never return the videos."
"What? Apologize to her?" Patricia's face quickly darkened. "Jack, that's impossible. I will never apologize to her."
Jack sighed, rubbing his hair in frustration. "Then you'll let them hold this over you forever? You'll always worry about the videos going public." His words sobered Patricia up a bit.
Seeing her wavering, Jack held her shoulders and patiently persuaded, "Mom, listen to me. I won't harm you. Once this is resolved, I'll take you abroad to settle down, and we'll never come back."
'Go abroad?' Patricia sneered inwardly. 'I brought Jack back from abroad because of the Walton family's assets. Now, how could I just leave empty-handed? I'd rather die here.'
She suddenly came up with something and nodded. "Okay, Jack, this time I'll listen to you. I will apologize to Jessica."
"Then I'll arrange it," Jack replied.
It was indeed a surprise for Jessica to see Patricia when she opened the door to find Jack supporting a haggard Patricia.
As soon as Patricia saw Jessica, she forced a faint smile. "Jessica, I came to apologize. I'm very sorry for what happened the other day. It was all my fault. Please forgive me!"
Jessica always thought of herself as a kind girl who wouldn't hold grudges. But she really couldn't forgive Patricia. "Forget about it. As long as you disappear from my life from now on, I'll be very happy."
Patricia started coughing violently. While coughing, she pitifully said, "Jessica, I know you hate me. Since you don't like it, I won't stand here making you uncomfortable. I'll leave right away."
"Mom, wait for me downstairs." After these words, Jack turned to Jessica, "Can we talk?"
"We have nothing to talk about," Jessica said coldly.
"What if it's a farewell?"
Farewell? Jessica couldn't help but be a little interested in this.
"You're leaving?" she looked at him in surprise.
"Yes." Jack nodded. "I've decided to take my mother abroad to settle down. It could be in the next couple of days. I thought this would be the best news for you, so I wanted to formally say goodbye."
