Chapter 114 Gabriel, Farewell
With blood cascading down from her lower body, Jessica was so terrified that she was incoherent.
Revealing the baby was her last bargaining chip.
If he didn't believe even this, if he wouldn't come to save her, then she would completely give up hope and never hold any expectations for him again.
"Jessica, ever since we shared a bed, we've always used contraception. You should make up a better lie." When Gabriel's voice came through again, Jessica felt her world turn gray, devoid of any light.
The sun in her world had fallen.
It had fallen forever, never to rise again.
Jessica clutched her phone and, with a resolute voice, said finally, "Gabriel, whether you choose to believe it or not, I haven't lied to you. I really had a car accident, and the baby and I are truly in danger. If one day you learn the truth, I won't forgive you."
With that, Jessica hung up the phone.
Immediately, she dialed 911.
She had to survive; she must survive. Only then could the baby be safe.
But just as she finished dialing 911, Jessica's phone screen went black.
She tried turning it off and on, once, twice, three times.
But it didn't work.
The phone now lay in her hand like a discarded black brick, utterly useless.
If she had known Gabriel's response would be like this, she would never have wasted her last chance, her last hope, on him.
She would have dialed '911' directly.
However, in this world, there were no 'ifs', and there was no turning back.
Throwing the phone aside, Jessica bit her lip and cried out in pain.
After crying, she wiped her tears away ungracefully, knowing that no one would come to save her now, except herself.
She muttered, "Baby, hold on, stay strong. Mommy will find a way. Mommy won't let anything happen to you."
She had to get out, she had to get out of the car. Only then would there be a glimmer of hope.
Glancing at the driver's side door, Jessica mustered all her strength to crawl over and unlock the door.
The rain continued to pour.
As soon as Jessica opened the door, a torrent of rain gushed in, soaking her completely. Blood mixed with rainwater flowed down uncontrollably.
At this moment, Jessica's white dress was stained with red, patches of blood clinging to her dress like blooming red flowers.
A pitiful and glaring sight.
The rain pounded down relentlessly, the cold making Jessica shiver uncontrollably. She was so cold, so very cold.
Her hands were numb, her whole body icy, as if she had just crawled out of a cellar.
Finally, she crawled out of the car.
Just as she tried to stand, a sharp pain shot through her leg.
If she guessed correctly, her leg was probably broken.
It hurt, it hurt a lot.
But it couldn't compare to the pain in her heart.
The pain Gabriel had inflicted on her was like a knife cutting into her heart, each cut striking her chest, each cut fatal.
So, this pain didn't matter.
There were few cars on the road, but not none at all.
Jessica struggled to the roadside, waving her hand frantically, hoping a car would stop and take her to the hospital, or at least make a call for her.
But the rain was too heavy, and some cars didn't even see her waving.
Some cars saw the wreckage and didn't dare to stop for fearing trouble.
Jessica had no other options; it was a matter of life and death.
In the distance, as another car approached, Jessica suddenly closed her eyes, and ran frantically toward it with her broken leg, spreading her arms wide to block the speeding vehicle.
With a screech of brakes, the car stopped just inches from her.
Had the car been a bit faster, or not slowed down, or had she been a bit closer, she would have been dead.
Realizing she wasn't dead, Jessica opened her eyes and smiled with relief.
Then, she walked to the car door and pleaded, "I had a car accident. Can you call 911 for me? Please."
No sooner had she spoken than the car door opened, and a man with a thick, fleshy face stepped out. Seeing Jessica, he pushed her to the ground.
Caught off guard, Jessica was shoved far away.
A sharp pain shot through her tailbone, and more importantly, the push caused her to bleed even more profusely.
She was in excruciating pain, unable to stand.
Seeing her covered in blood and soaking wet, the man cursed, "Crazy woman, you almost killed me. What a cursed day!, Damn it. Get lost! Get away from me."
The man cursed and then got back into his car.
Jessica watched helplessly as the car sped away, even splashing a puddle of water onto her as it left.
Instantly, she was covered in dirty water, looking utterly miserable.
Jessica wanted to crawl to the roadside, knowing how dangerous it was to stay in the middle of the road.
But she had no strength left; even breathing was painful.
She missed her mother and her grandfather.
Perhaps this time, God wouldn't favor her, and she would go to join them.
Maybe it was for the best; she might be happier in heaven than living here.
At least in heaven, she could be with her loving mother and her doting grandfather. They would pamper her, protect her, and never let her suffer any harm or grievance.
And the baby, the baby would be with her too.
She thought, 'I'm sorry, baby. I broke my promise. I failed to protect you. But don't worry, no matter what, Iwill be with you.'
A final smile spread across her face as Jessica placed her hand on her abdomen, completely giving up on life.
Because she knew, there was no one left, no one would come to save her.
Giselle was gone, and Xavier was gone too.
Her gambler father was unreliable.
The closest person she had in this world, her husband, thought this was all a charade she orchestrated, not believing her at all.
Or perhaps, this was just an excuse Gabriel made for himself!
Even if he believed her, even if he knew about her car accident, that she and the baby were in danger, he would still choose Diana without hesitation, the woman he cherished.
'Jessica, you've lost, lost completely, utterly defeated. So, It's time to face the reality.'
'Gabriel, if there is a next life, we shall never meet again. Gabriel, farewell, this time for real,' Jessica thought to herself.
