Chapter 146 Jessica Left
"No, thanks," Jessica refused.
Gabriel sighed, "It's just one night. What do you think I would do to you?"
Jessica pressed her lips together and remained silent. She wasn't afraid of anything happening; she was simply worried that the longer she stayed, the more difficult it would be to eventually depart.
"You stay here, I'll go sleep at the office. I'll take you over in the morning," Gabriel said.
Since he put it that way, Jessica could only nod. "Alright."
Early the next morning, Jessica woke up. It was just after six. She had a simple breakfast.
By the time she had packed everything, it was still not yet eight.
After she dragged her suitcase to the door, she couldn't resist going upstairs again.
Standing on the second floor and looking down, she felt a flood of emotions. She remembered how excited and joyful she was the first time she entered this room.
Back then, she was full of dreams about their married life, opening the door filled with happiness and sweetness.
She had imagined so much, like making him breakfast every morning, tying his tie, and spending evenings together in the study, him working and her studying, both making progress together.
She had also imagined waking up together on weekend mornings, enjoying the view outside, feeling a special kind of romance.
But later, reality hit her hard.
None of her dreams came true; they all fell apart.
In the end, a loveless marriage was nothing but a hollow facade. Without a soul, how could it ever find true happiness?
When she walked in here, she always envisioned spending her life with him, growing old together until they both departed this world.
She never expected to leave so miserably one day.
She walked past the study, past the bedroom, and finally made her way back to the first floor.
It was already eight, and Gabriel hadn't come back yet.
She thought for a moment and decided to call him.
Gabriel's phone vibrated on the table, but he didn't have the courage to answer it.
He was scared.
He found that he couldn't bear to watch her leave, to see her back getting farther and farther away.
Just the thought of her leaving his world made him unable to face it. So he backed down and had Oscar take her instead.
"I'm sorry, Jessica. You must be blaming me!" Gabriel murmured to himself, looking up, his heart in pain, but he still didn't have the courage to answer the call.
Seeing no one answer, Jessica was about to hang up when the voicemail prompt came on.
She left a message and then hung up.
Only then did Gabriel pick up the phone and listen to her message: "Gabriel, thank you for letting me stay last night. I've packed my things, and I left the key on the dining table.
"We were married, so I should say goodbye to you, but you seem very busy. So, I'll just say it one-sidedly. Goodbye, Gabriel. I'm leaving."
Unable to contain himself any longer, Gabriel grabbed his keys and hurried home.
Meanwhile, Jessica pulled her suitcase with one hand and opened the door with the other.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Oscar.
Seeing her, Oscar immediately said respectfully, "Mrs. Walton, Mr. Walton asked me to come and help you with your luggage."
"No need, it's not that much, just two suitcases. I can manage," Jessica said.
There wasn't much luggage. The reason she had agreed to let Gabriel take her was because of that slight of longing in her heart, wanting to see him one last time and say goodbye in person.
Since he didn't come, there was no need for Oscar to escort her.
"Mrs. Walton, this is Mr. Walton's instruction. Please let me help you," Oscar insisted.
Jessica also insisted, "There's really no need. And Gabriel and I are divorced now. You don't have to call me Mrs. Walton anymore. Just call me Jessica."
Oscar suddenly looked up.
Although he had inferred from some of Gabriel's words and actions that there were issues in their marriage and assumed they had conflicts.
But he never expected they would actually get divorced.
They really got divorced.
Seeing his surprise, Jessica said, "Don't be too surprised. Maybe it was destined from the beginning. So, you don't need to take me. I'll be fine on my own."
"In that case, let me give you a ride one last time, Jessica. It's not for Gabriel; it's something I want to do," Oscar said.
Over the past two years, as Mr. Walton's wife, Jessica had earned Oscar's great admiration in every aspect.
She wasn't spoiled or arrogant.
Even as Mrs. Walton of the Walton Group, she remained humble and diligent, pursuing her dreams seriously in school.
And she was very gentle, with precious qualities like generosity, kindness, and grace, completely lacking the airs of other wealthy young ladies.
Mr. Walton must have valued these precious qualities when he chose her as his daughter-in-law. Unfortunately, Mr. Walton never realized this and was instead entangled with Diana.
At Grace's house, Oscar helped Jessica move the two large suitcases inside.
Jessica was very grateful and personally poured him a glass of water.
After drinking the water, Oscar left.
Before leaving, he looked at Jessica and couldn't help but say, "Mrs. Walton, if there's still a chance, I sincerely hope you and Mr. Walton can get back together."
Jessica smiled faintly. "We'll see."
'Get back together? How could that be easy?'
She hadn't thought about it.
She had struggled for ten years in her youth, and that was enough. She didn't want to struggle for another ten years.
Suddenly remembering something, Jessica quickly said, "Oscar, wait a moment."
She went inside and came back with a delicate box, handing it to Oscar. "These are some of the jewelry he gave me over the past two years. They're quite valuable. I'd feel guilty keeping them. Please take them back to him."
"You bought them, so you know them well. Please check if anything is missing," she added.
Oscar looked down and checked each piece, then picked up a jade bracelet and jade earrings. "Mrs. Walton, I've seen you wear this bracelet, but I don't think I helped Mr. Walton pick it out. And these earrings, too."
"Oh, these were gifts from Xavier. But Ximena intended them for her granddaughter-in-law. Since I'm no longer part of the Walton family, it's only right to return them," Jessica responded.
"Alright, I'll make sure to give them to Mr. Walton." Oscar nodded.
"Thank you!"
Getting out of the car, Gabriel rushed back home, but it was eerily quiet. She was already gone.
Jessica had left.
"Jessica."
Even though he knew she was gone, he still called out several times.
Then he called Oscar. "Give me her new address."
After getting the address, Gabriel didn't even take a breath and immediately drove over.
