Chapter 52 Francis, I Twisted My Ankle 2
'Gabriel?'
'It's his voice.'
'He's back?'
Jessica thought and quickly turned around, and the moment she saw him, she broke into a smile through her tears.
"Didn't you leave me? Why are you back?"
Seeing the tears on her face, Francis handed her a tissue. "Wipe your tears first."
"Thank you!"
After wiping her tears, Jessica looked at him. "Did you come back because you couldn't bear to leave me?"
Francis had one hand in his pocket. He didn't answer her but instead said, "Where do you live? I'll take you home."
"Really?"
Jessica could hardly believe it.
"Considering you're a pregnant woman and your husband is missing, I'll do it as a good deed."
Jessica didn't mind his words.
As long as he was willing to take her home, that was good enough.
"But my foot hurts so much, I can hardly walk."
"Did you sprain both feet?" he asked.
"I don't know, it hurts too much to move."
Francis stepped closer and comforted her. "Can you just move a little so I can see?"
Jessica was moved by his gentle demeanor. Biting her lip, she nodded. "Okay."
But as soon as she moved her left foot, she immediately frowned and cried out in pain. "No, my left foot is sprained. It hurts so much."
"Try moving your right foot."
Jessica licked her lips and looked at him innocently. "I'm scared."
Francis remained silent.
"It hurts. Can you check it for me? You used to check my injuries like this."
Jessica spoke without thinking.
"Used to?" Francis looked at her.
His gaze was deep, making it hard for her to withstand.
He quickly looked away, and Jessica straightened her back.
"Yeah, I told you, I'm your wife. We used to be very much in love. You cared for me deeply. Whenever I got hurt, you would be very worried."
Francis was silent.
He stared at her for a while.
He lowered his head and muttered, "It seems your illness is quite serious."
Jessica was silent.
Looking at his perfect profile, she wanted to say, 'Stupid Gabriel, big idiot, you're the one who's sick, you're the one with amnesia and forgot about our relationship.'
But in the end, she said nothing.
She knew that pushing too hard would only backfire.
"So, will you help me check?"
"I need to."
Francis squatted down and placed his hand on Jessica's ankle.
After carefully examining it and confirming there were no signs of a sprain or swelling, he said, "Move it."
"Okay."
This time, Jessica immediately smiled with joy. "It's fine, this foot doesn't hurt."
"Alright, that means your right foot isn't sprained, only your left foot is."
After concluding, Francis stood up.
Then he walked to her side, gentlemanly placing his hand on his waist. "You can hold onto me, put all your weight on your left foot on me, and walk with your right foot."
Jessica paused for a moment.
In the past, he would have carried her.
But now, she knew that was impossible.
Just as Jessica was hesitating, Francis spoke up. "If you don't want this kind of help, I can call for..."
"I want it."
Jessica immediately interrupted.
As soon as she spoke, she quickly held onto Francis's arm.
She leaned her left side's weight on him and slowly moved forward with her right foot.
She walked very slowly.
Francis also slowed his pace, not urging her, and matching her steps.
This filled Jessica with warmth.
However, they were moving very slowly.
Looking at the long distance ahead, Jessica couldn't help but feel discouraged. "Maybe you should go. It's far, and I'm really tired and in pain. I don't want to move anymore."
Francis looked at her.
After a moment of silence, he sighed deeply. "I don't know what your family was thinking, letting a pregnant woman come to the island alone."
"I told you, I'm here to find my husband."
Francis was silent.
"Forget it, let's not discuss this. There's a beach chair up ahead. Can you make it there?"
Jessica nodded. "Okay, I'll try."
After a few more minutes, they finally reached the beach chair.
"Sit down and rest for a bit."
After saying that, he turned and ran off.
Watching his back, Jessica felt extremely aggrieved and shouted, "Are you leaving me?"
There was no response, only the sound of the rolling sea.
Ten minutes later, suddenly, Jessica heard a roaring sound.
Turning around, she saw a motorcycle speeding towards her.
Although the motorcycle was a bit far, and the person on it was wearing a helmet, making it impossible to see clearly, she just had a feeling that it was Gabriel.
He hadn't abandoned her.
He was coming to get her.
Two minutes later, when the motorcycle got closer and finally stopped in front of her.
Jessica immediately broke into a happy smile.
Francis took off his helmet and ran his hand through his messy hair. "The motorcycle is fast, not as safe as a car. Are you willing to ride it?"
"Of course."
Jessica answered almost without thinking.
How could she not be willing?
The person carrying her was Gabriel.
Not to mention a motorcycle, even a bicycle would be fine.
As long as he was there, she felt secure, safe, and happy and wasn't afraid of anything.
Francis handed her the helmet. "Alright, put this on."
"If I wear it, what about you?"
"You're pregnant, protecting you is the most important."
"Okay."
Jessica nodded and carefully put on the helmet.
As soon as she put it on, he glanced at her and said, "It's on backward!"
"Okay!"
To be honest, she had never worn a motorcycle helmet before; this was her first time.
She turned it around and put it on again.
"How about now? Check it."
"This time it's right, but you didn't fasten the strap."
"Okay, let me see."
Jessica looked carefully and felt around, finally finding the strap on the helmet.
But she just couldn't pull it through, it always felt too short.
After several attempts, she still couldn't fasten it.
Finally, she spread her hands in a gesture of giving up. "I can't fasten it."
Seeing the strap half-hidden inside the helmet, Francis couldn't help but laugh.
Then he said, "You're such an idiot."
Both of them froze.
This was something he used to say to her often, pretending to dislike her clumsiness, but full of affection.
"Anyway, I can't fasten it. Maybe my head is too big. Can you help me?" Jessica suddenly said.
