Chapter 118 An Eye for An Eye?

"Gabriel, it hurts so much! Gabriel, save me!" Diana cried weakly, her entire body quickly leaning into Gabriel's arms.

Gabriel held her, his deep gaze fixed on Jessica.

Jessica just stood there, maintaining her previous posture without moving, not even blinking.

She still held the knife in her hand, blood dripping from the blade, the blood still warm, its strong metallic scent permeating the entire room.

Seeing Gabriel holding Diana, her eyes remained indifferent, without the slightest change.

If it were any other time, she would have been very worried, very flustered, afraid that Gabriel might misunderstand her.

But now, it didn't matter anymore.

Nothing mattered anymore, no matter what he wanted to say or do, she didn't care.

No matter what he thought, whether he believed she was cruel or heartless, she didn't care.

Her heart was dead, perhaps that was it.

His opinions no longer held any significance for her.

"If you care so much, why don't you quickly take your beloved woman to get treated? If you delay any longer here, her life might be lost," Jessica said calmly, looking at Gabriel.

Gabriel looked at Jessica with almost disbelief.

At that moment, she seemed so unfamiliar, completely unlike the Jessica he knew.

The Jessica he knew was a kind-hearted girl who would carefully nurture an injured bird and then set it free; a girl who wouldn't even dare to step on a small insect.

She was someone who would be happy for others' joy and sad for others' sorrow.

But now, her eyes were too cold, shrouded in a mist, so cold that there was not a trace of warmth.

"It hurts so much, Gabriel, let's go find a doctor, it hurts so much." Diana shrank in Gabriel's arms, pretending to be fragile and innocent.

Gabriel's gaze fell on Jessica's hand, which was still bleeding. It was hard to tell if the blood was from the knife or from a wound on her hand.

"Your hand..." He had just started to speak.

Jessica abruptly interrupted him, saying directly without thinking. "Don't ask, I know what you want to ask. I did it, I stabbed Diana in the chest with the knife."

This time, she admitted it straightforwardly without any hesitation.

Since this was the answer he wanted, she would give it to him.

But for some reason, upon hearing the answer, Gabriel's dark eyes did not soften; instead, they seemed even colder, like snow-covered depths, so deep that one couldn't see the bottom.

Jessica let out a light laugh, her eyes filled with uncontrollable sarcasm. She thought, 'He was really hard to please. She had already admitted it straightforwardly, what more did he want?'

"What are you laughing at?" Gabriel's dark eyes locked onto her as he asked.

Jessica replied, "Laughing at Mr. Walton's deep affection for a mistress."

She had admitted it, yet he was still not satisfied.

So, what did he want?

An eye for an eye?

Jessica, barefoot, walked a little closer to Gabriel. Gabriel's eyes remained calm, but a storm was brewing in his heart.

He had clearly felt that after this car accident, she seemed like a completely different person.

She was no longer the soft and weak woman she once was; she had become strong, indifferent, and even more heart-wrenching.

On the way to save Diana, the image that kept flashing in his mind was her coldly telling him to leave. Later, it was her calling him, crying and pleading over and over again.

In truth, his heart had long since softened completely.

But he was wrong, terribly wrong.

He had thought she was just trying to prove her place in his heart, competing with Diana for his attention.

With Diana's life at stake, he had no choice but to save Diana first and then comfort her.

But he hadn't expected that everything was real; she had indeed been in a car accident and had indeed suffered serious injuries.

That day, it was a torrential rain, the kind she feared the most. How desperate and terrified she must have been!

Every time he closed his eyes, Gabriel's mind was filled with the image of her, covered in mud and bleeding, calling him in the rain, yet he refused tpo believe her words.

He was her husband, the closest person she had in this world now!

But he had abandoned her.

Gabriel's heart was filled with regret, but he knew there was no turning back in this world.

How could he ever make up for what he owed her?

He had already decided that after saving Diana, he would send her abroad, cut off all contact, and live as complete strangers.

If that was the only way to give her peace, he was willing.

But it was too late; he was ultimately a step too late.

Jessica took another step closer to Gabriel.

Suddenly, with a hiss, she cried out, her brows instantly furrowing.

A sharp pain shot through her foot, and blood immediately began to flow.

It must have been a shard of glass.

Earlier, when Diana left, she had angrily thrown a glass. Jessica had gotten out of bed barefoot, so she must have stepped on the broken glass.

Gabriel called out anxiously. "Jessica, are you hurt?"

"I'm fine, don't worry, Mr. Walton," Jessica replied coldly, looking up.

Seeing the distance between them, she reached out and handed the knife to Gabriel. "I admit it, I caused Diana's injury. Since you care so much, fine, I'll give you the chance. I'm right here, you can use this knife to return the favor. I won't step back."

After saying this, Jessica couldn't help but feel a wave of sadness.

But perhaps this was for the best, wasn't it?

As long as he stabbed her, they could be completely even, completely severed, with no more entanglements.

"Do you think this is what I want?" Heartache overwhelmed him. How could she think he wanted an eye for an eye?

Was this the kind of man she thought he was?

Not only did he not believe she had intentionally stabbed Diana, but even if she had, he would never use a knife against his own wife.

But these words took on a completely different meaning in Jessica's ears.

"Really?" she laughed. "Then does Mr. Walton want to send me to prison, to be judged by the law? If that's what it takes to calm your anger, to get justice for Diana, sorry, I will never confess to Diana."

"Jessica, that's not what I mean, you've misunderstood," Gabriel said, looking at her with eyes full of pain.

"Then what do you mean? Or are you still not satisfied, and only my death will satisfy you?" Jessica shouted, using all her strength.
