Chapter 237 The More Sober, The More Painful
Gabriel was just venting. He didn't really mean to be mad at her.
He figured Jessica was just upset, and that once she calmed down, he could smooth things over.
But he never thought she'd want to break up.
Gabriel thought, "She actually wants to break up?"
"She said she liked him so much and had had a crush on him for ten years."
"It's only been a few days, and she's already tired of it?"
Panic-stricken, all his anger vanished when he heard her say "break up".
He stepped forward and hugged Jessica.
Resting his head on her neck, he said softly, "I was impulsive. I shouldn't have forced you to rest. If you're sure you can work, then we won't take leave. I'll take you."
"Okay, but I can go by myself," Jessica replied simply.
She had more to say but was about to go to work and genuinely wanted to go.
They could talk about their issues later.
When Jessica said she'd go to work by herself, she meant it.
Gabriel wanted to take her, but seeing her firm stance, he didn't push it and just drove alongside her.
Jessica walked ahead, and he followed behind.
But it was hard to get a cab there.
Jessica waited but no cab came.
Gabriel still parked his car beside her and rolled down the window, "You're going to be late. Let me take you."
Jessica shook her head, "You go to work first. I can still make it."
Thinking of something, she added, "Haven't you been really busy with work lately? You should go focus on that."
Busy with work?
Thinking of something else, Jessica felt a pang of sadness and a bitter smile appeared on her lips.
Someone once said when a man says he's busy with work, it's just an excuse. How busy can he really be?
So busy he can't send a message or make a call for days?
Unless he doesn't want to contact you.
Back then, she had thought it was too melodramatic. Everyone had busy times, after all.
So, she had always believed him, without a doubt.
Whenever he said he was busy with work, she let him go, never questioning him.
Now she knew his "busy with work" had just been an excuse to be abroad with another woman.
And that woman had been Diana.
The fool had always been herself.
But a kind-hearted person didn't deserve to be deceived.
At that moment, Grace pulled up beside Jessica.
Upon seeing her, Jessica immediately got in.
After Jessica got in, Grace checked the rearview mirror several times to confirm the car following them was Gabriel's.
Seeing Jessica unusually silent, she immediately understood, "Did you have a fight with him?"
"No," Jessica said.
Grace was silent.
The way they looked, it definitely seemed like they had a fight.
Just as she was wondering, Jessica spoke, "We're done."
"What?" Grace's eyes widened in disbelief. Supporting her best friend, she immediately became indignant. "What's Gabriel's problem? He went all the way to Seabrook Valley to find you, pursued you in every way, and now that he's got you, he doesn't cherish you."
Jessica gave a bitter smile and said, "Grace, you got it wrong. I was the one who brought it up this time."
"You?" Grace was even more surprised.
"You like him so much, why would you want to break up?" Then it clicked for Grace.
With Jessica's personality, she wouldn't bring up breaking up for no reason; there had to be a reason.
And she had loved Gabriel for so many years. If it wasn't something major, she wouldn't have reached this point.
"That jerk! Jessica, don't be afraid. Did he bully you or cheat on you? Tell me, and I'll get justice for you."
Grace immediately said, indignant.
In her eyes, no matter what happened, Jessica was always right, and Gabriel was always wrong.
She would always stand by her best friend.
"Do you remember Diana?" Jessica asked and then said, "She's back."
"Of course." Grace was so angry that her hands shook. She slammed on the brakes and pounded the steering wheel, "Diana again. I knew she wasn't simple. When you told me she went abroad, I was worried she'd come back.
"And I was right. Where is she now? Let's go deal with her."
Jessica shook her head, "I have to go to work first. There's an important surgery at the hospital today. Mrs. Hernandez worked hard to get me a chance to observe. I can't miss it."
"Okay, then after work," Grace said and then called Susan, "Susan, do I have some event tonight?"
"Yes, Grace," Susan replied.
"Tell Linda to cancel it. I have something to deal with tonight." After saying that, Grace hung up.
Jessica didn't expect her to act so quickly and felt guilty. "Grace, it's not necessary. You're very busy with work. I can go by myself."
"No way. Diana looks very capable, playing the victim and being fragile, good at pretending to be pure. And she's mean. I must be there with you," Grace said.
"But your work?" Before Jessica could finish, Grace waved her hand, "It's nothing, just an unimportant event. Besides, if I go, I'll have to drink and sing. It's no fun at all.
"In that case, I should thank you for giving me an excuse to get out of it."
Jessica pursed her lips and said no more.
Grace was very popular now, and her schedule was carefully selected by Linda and the team. How could it be an unimportant event?
But Grace canceled her work for her.
How lucky she was to have such a good friend.
As they approached the company, Grace suddenly thought, "By the way, how did Diana come back? She's crippled, and Gabriel had ordered that she couldn't buy a ticket."
Jessica smiled bitterly and explained, "She didn't come back on her own. Gabriel brought her back."
"What?" Grace was furious.
"And he contacted Diana when he went abroad last time. We had just gotten together, and they spent a few days together abroad." After saying that, Jessica didn't know how to feel.
"Shocked, right?" She looked at Grace and then muttered to herself, "I'm shocked too. If I hadn't found out, how long would he have kept it from me? A lifetime?"
