Chapter 265 From Now On, Let's Keep Our Distance!

"Alright, I won't say it. I won't say it ever again." Gabriel's eyes were filled with laughter.

Since Gabriel's wound hadn't healed yet and he couldn't eat spicy food, Jessica decided to make him some pasta.

Remembering how he used to complain about her cooking skills, Jessica specifically searched on a cooking app for how to make delicious pasta.

Jessica opened the app and had just typed in "how to make pasta" when many mouth-watering pictures popped up on the screen.

She reached out to click on one.

Suddenly, a pair of warm, strong hands wrapped around her waist.

Gabriel rested his chin on her shoulder, gently blowing air as he asked, "What are you planning to make for me?"

"Pasta," she replied.

His gaze fell on the app she had just opened, and he couldn't help but laugh.

"What are you laughing at?" she asked, hearing him.

Realizing the screen on her phone, she quickly turned it off and hid it.

His eyes twinkled with even more amusement. "It seems Ms. Morgan needs some external help to make this pasta."

She immediately denied it, "No, I was just looking to compare and see if there's any difference from how I make it."

"So, Ms. Morgan, did you find any differences?" He asked.

"I hadn't even started looking when you came over. Didn't you say you were hungry? Let go of me so I can start cooking," she said.

He cooperated this time and immediately let go of Jessica.

But the next moment, he spun her around and pushed her out of the kitchen.

With his hands on her shoulders, he said seriously, "Alright, Ms. Morgan, since you are not good at cooking, leave it to me. You just need to look pretty, and I'll handle the rest."

"But what about your wound?" She asked.

"Don't worry. As long as I don't move too much, it'll be fine," he answered.

Even though he said that, she was still worried, as the scene from that time was still vivid in her memory.

But he had already locked himself in the kitchen.

Through the transparent glass door, she saw his tall figure busy at work.

He opened the fridge, took out the pasta, and tomato sauce.

Every step he took was exceptionally smooth.

Then, the smoke began to rise.

Jessica watched TV in the living room while waiting for him, and before she knew it, she fell asleep.

When Gabriel brought out the pasta, he found her slumped on the sofa. Seeing her asleep, he walked quietly and covered her with a blanket.

After finishing his meal and cleaning up the dishes, Gabriel saw that Jessica was still asleep. He bent down and carried her to the bedroom.

Just as he laid her on the bed and covered her with a blanket, she woke up.

She opened her eyes slightly, rubbed them, and asked groggily, "How did I get to the bed?"

He couldn't help but tap her nose affectionately. "Silly girl, you fell asleep on the sofa. I was afraid you'd catch a cold, so I carried you to the bed.

"Have you been very tired lately?"

Jessica nodded, "Work has been quite busy recently."

"Then get some good sleep. You need to be well-rested to face tomorrow's work," he said.

Jessica pouted, "But I haven't showered yet. I need to freshen up."

He held her down and, looking at her face, suddenly had a thought and couldn't help but tease her, "I've already bathed you."

"What?" She was stunned.

Her face turned red and white in anger as she looked at Gabriel. "How could you do that? We're not even in a relationship. What gives you the right to bathe me?

"Gabriel, what do you take me for?

"Do you think any man can just come into my house, undress me, bathe me, and then dress me again?"

Jessica finished, feeling both angry and wronged.

He had intended it as a joke but didn't expect her reaction to be so intense.

He immediately apologized, "Jessica, I was just joking. I didn't bathe you. You're still wearing the same clothes as before."

She then lifted the blanket and checked herself, finding that her clothes were indeed the same and hadn't been removed. She finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But when she looked at him again, her tone became very serious. "Gabriel, there are some things I need to make clear with you.

"I currently have no intention of dating or having a boyfriend. I just want to focus on my work."

Gabriel's eyes lowered, and he nodded heavily.

"Alright," he said, his eyes filled with evident sadness.

Jessica forced herself to ignore the sadness in his eyes and continued, "It's getting late. You should go back to the hospital. Your wound still needs proper care."

"Okay." Gabriel let go of her, turned around, and walked out with heavy steps.

Just as he was about to walk out the door, Jessica suddenly called out to him, "Gabriel."

He immediately turned around, his eyes filled with obvious joy.

She continued, "If you take good care of your wound, it should heal slowly and won't be a big problem.

"Since we're divorced and broken up, strictly speaking, we don't have a close relationship anymore. In the future, we..."

Taking a deep breath, she mustered the courage to finish her sentence, "In the future, we should keep our distance. Coming to my house so late like this will cause misunderstandings."

As Gabriel heard these words, his eyes immediately dimmed.

He clenched his fists, looked at her, and tried to open his mouth.

But he only felt his lips dry.

After a long time, he finally made a low, hoarse sound. "Is this really what you want?

"Do you really not want to see me anymore?"

Jessica looked at him and nodded solemnly. "Yes.

"We should both move forward and embrace our new lives, shouldn't we?

"When we got married, everyone said we weren't from the same world. I was naive and didn't want to believe it, trying to prove otherwise despite getting hurt. But the truth is, we are indeed not suitable for each other."

"So, we should return to our own lives."

After saying that, she took a deep breath.

She realized that her heart felt like it was being cut by a knife, and the pain was excruciating.

But she forced herself to endure it.

Gabriel looked at her, his face full of sorrow and grief.

They looked at each other, and time seemed to stand still.

Finally, he turned around, said nothing, and left in silence.
