Chapter 329 You Have No Idea What I Want 2
"Jessica, I get it," Gabriel said, grabbing her hand like his life depended on it. For some reason, this time felt different. He had this gut feeling that he was losing her, like she was slipping away.
"No, you don't get it," Jessica shot back, her voice rising, her face full of hurt.
She pulled her hand away, taking a step back. "Gabriel, I don't need your promises or guarantees. I need your trust. The kind of trust where, even if the whole world turns its back on me, you'd still be there, believing in me no matter what."
"But you can't do that."
"I've told you a million times, nothing happened between Jack and me. But you never believed me. You assumed the baby was his and even asked me to get an abortion. Do you know how much that broke my heart?"
She took a deep breath, looking back up at him with a mix of sorrow and determination. "I used to think love was enough, that if two people loved each other, they could make it work and grow old together."
"But I was wrong. Love isn't enough. You need trust and understanding too." She shook her head slowly. "Even if you force yourself to believe me now, it won't change anything. This will always be a thorn in your heart, something that hurts every time you think about it. You can't just let it go."
Gabriel felt like his heart was being ripped apart listening to her. He pulled her into his arms, full of regret. "I'm sorry, Jessica. I messed up."
Jessica pushed him away, shaking her head with a sad smile. "Gabriel, it's too late. Some things are already broken."
"In the past, when we broke up, I'd cry my eyes out. I thought I'd cry this time too, but I didn't. This time, I felt strangely calm. Maybe we're just not right for each other. We didn't have love before, and now that we do, we've lost trust."
"So, let's take a break." With that, Jessica got up and started to leave.
Gabriel grabbed her from behind, pleading, "Jessica, don't go. Please don't go. I can't be without you. If you're mad, punish me however you want, but don't leave."
"Let go. I need to go home," Jessica said, her voice so calm it was almost emotionless.
Gabriel didn't want to let go, but even as he held her tight, he felt like she was slipping away. She felt like smoke, drifting away with the wind, and he couldn't hold onto her.
Jessica didn't resist. If he wanted to hold her, fine. He'd let go when he got tired.
"Jessica, don't be so quiet. Don't ignore me. Can you just talk to me?" Gabriel whispered in her ear.
But Jessica just stood there, not reacting. She didn't push him away, but she didn't respond either.
They stood there for what felt like forever, and Jessica's body started to feel stiff.
Suddenly, she felt something warm and wet on her neck. After a while, it turned cold. She realized it was his tears.
So, he was crying? Crying because she was leaving?
Jessica's mind was a whirlwind of emotions. Before this, she had imagined a thousand different ways he might try to keep her.
She thought he might get all forceful, lock her up, or keep apologizing and making promises. But she never expected this. Just holding her, silently crying behind her. He was crying so deeply and quietly, it was clear he was really hurting.
When Gabriel cried like that, how could Jessica not be moved? She admitted her heart softened, feeling the pain too.
His tears felt like drops of wax on her heart, making her ache. But she couldn't forgive him. His lack of trust had really hurt her.
Time seemed to stretch indefinitely. Suddenly, she felt his grip loosen around her waist. Then, Gabriel's hands let go and dropped down.
He stepped forward, looking at Jessica, finally giving in, and gently said, "Okay, I'll have Oscar take you home. You're still pregnant, and you shouldn't stay up late. Go home and get some rest. Don't be sad, and don't cry, okay?"
He didn't dare to send her off himself. He couldn't bear to watch her walk away, getting further and further from him. So, he had Oscar take her away.
"Okay, thank you," Jessica said quickly, turning around. If she looked at him one more time, she might forgive him and not leave.
Just as she opened the door to leave, Gabriel's voice rang out behind her, "Jessica, I will respect your wishes, and I will let you go home."
He would wait for the day she was willing to forgive him and come back.
When Jessica went out, Oscar was already waiting. As she got into the car, she felt the warmth inside; the heater must have been on the whole time.
"Oscar, when did you get here?" Jessica was a bit surprised. How long had he been waiting?
"Mr. Walton mentioned he had upset you and thought you might want to leave. So, he instructed me to wait outside early on, and to keep the heater on so you wouldn't be cold. This way, no matter when you came out, it would be warm inside."
Jessica had promised herself not to be swayed, but her heart was still moved.
As they neared her home, Oscar glanced at Jessica several times through the rearview mirror, finally unable to hold back and spoke up, "Ms. Morgan, you might think I'm being nosy, but I still want to say a few words for Mr. Walton from a man's perspective."
"Given the situation with you and Jack, especially since Mr. Walton has a deep distrust of Jack, any man would have doubts. Mr. Walton loves you, but he's just an ordinary man. The more he loves, the more he cares and minds."
"Think about it, if you saw Mr. Walton and Diana in a hotel, spending the night in the same bed, drugged. Even if you believed Mr. Walton, would you believe Diana did nothing?"
"What if a month later, Diana suddenly got pregnant? Could you still firmly believe that nothing happened, without a single doubt?"
"Ms. Morgan, we're all ordinary people, not saints. Everyone has emotions and makes mistakes in judgment. If you put yourself in his shoes, maybe you wouldn't blame Mr. Walton so much." Oscar took a deep breath and glanced at Jessica again, his eyes filled with a mix of empathy and concern.
