Chapter 125 Jessica Insists on Divorce
What?
Diana could hardly believe her ears.
Suddenly, she burst into tears, crying out with all her heart. "No, Gabriel, I won't go abroad, I won't leave, I don't want to leave you. Gabriel, I'm begging you, I can give up everything, but please don't be so cruel to me. I really don't want to go."
Once she left, she would lose him completely; once she left, she would have no chance at all.
Diana was crying her heart out, but Gabriel's heart remained unmoved. His voice was as cold as ice. "Diana, this is a decision, not a discussion. This time, there's no room for negotiation. You must go."
"No, I won't go. No matter what you say, I won't go, Gabriel. You can't force me," Diana shouted.
Gabriel was growing angry as well, and his voice rose sharply. "I said, you must go."
"Diana, don't try to challenge me. If I want you to go, I have many ways to make it happen. I don't want you to end up leaving after you've embarrassed yourself. It will be a miserable outcome."
"No, no, I don't want to go." Diana cried even more sorrowfully.
Gabriel's words essentially declared that there was no hope for their relationship; she had to leave.
But she was Diana, she had put in a lot of effort.
She couldn't lose. How could she lose?
She had to win. She must win.
She had to win, even she had to work a hundred times or a thousand times harder.
This time, she was determined, no matter what it took.
Quickly composing herself, she calmed her emotions and suddenly said, "Can I ask you a question? I hope you'll answer me honestly."
Gabriel agreed. "Go ahead."
Diana asked, "Are you so eager to send me away because of Jessica?"
Jessica hadn't expected Diana to ask that question. She suddenly looked up and glanced at Gabriel.
But soon, she withdrew her gaze.
"Yes." Gabriel answered quickly. Jessica was a bit stunned.
But then, she understood. A faint smile played on her lips. She had been foolish. Some words couldn't be taken seriously.
She thought, 'Jessica, you have been deceived many. You have been hurt many times. Haven't you learned your lesson?'
She didn't need to take it to heart.
Diana was gnashing her teeth in hatred. It was because of Jessica. She knew it.
That little vixen. She would never let her succeed.
Diana deliberately raised her voice since she knew that Jessica was on the other end of the phone. "One more question. If you answer honestly, I will go abroad willingly and never bother you again."
Gabriel said, "Alright."
"Gabriel, do you still love me?" As soon as she asked that, both ends of the phone fell silent. It was so still they could hear each other breathing.
The night grew deeper.
"Diana, it's been over between us for a long time." As soon as Gabriel said that, Diana burst into tears.
Over?
How could it be over?
She thought about him every day. She missed him every day.
"Oscar will pick you up in an hour." After saying that, Gabriel hung up the phone.
His gaze turned back to Jessica. "What else is cold besides your feet? I'll warm you up."
Jessica shook her head, saying nothing.
He was asking her what else was cold?
It was her heart of course.
Her heart was now filled with inch after inch of coldness. It was so cold that anyone would feel an unbearable chill just being near it.
Lifting a corner of the blanket, Gabriel walked to the foot of the bed. When he lifted Jessica's feet, she instinctively pulled them back quickly.
"What are you doing?" She glared at him with round eyes.
Gabriel grasped her foot again, saying, "Aren't your feet cold? Let me warm them."
Jessica refused. "I don't need you to do it this way."
She couldn't bear his charity, and she didn't want it either.
Gabriel said, "I want to do it. I'm choosing to."
Gabriel's deep eyes fixed on her, making Jessica's heart skip a beat. She slowly averted her gaze. If he wanted to, so be it.
Soon, her cold feet were nestled in Gabriel's broad, warm hands.
Jessica's feet were as small as her hands. He could hold them tightly with both of his.
She had to admit, his hands were very warm. She instantly felt the warmth the moment he touched her.
Her feet quickly lost their chill as he rubbed and warmed them.
After a while, her feet regained their warmth, and as her feet warmed up, her whole body felt warmer and much more comfortable.
"That's enough, I'm warm now," Jessica said softly, looking at him.
Gabriel didn't stop and continued rubbing. "I’ll keep going a bit more, you'll feel better when your body is fully warm."
After a while longer, Gabriel finally let go of her and went to wash his hands.
At this moment, the supper that had been prepared was brought in. Jessica shook her head. "I don't want to eat."
Gabriel couldn't help but get angry as he thought about how cold she had been when he held her. His voice rose sharply. "Jessica, no matter what, you shouldn't take it out on your body."
Jessica stubbornly turned her face away.
"Everyone can make their own choices. You can choose to keep me here, and I can choose not to eat. You think I'll harm my body if I don’t eat, but I'd rather die and fly to freedom than be locked up here and life a confined life. Gabriel, I told you, we need to get a divorce. You can't stop me. Either I die, or I leave. You choose."
After Jessica finished speaking, she felt the atmosphere around her drop instantly.
Gabriel's whole body trembled violently out of anger. He glared at her, eyes bloodshot. "Jessica, is that what you really want? Am I just a completely shameless person with no redeeming qualities in your heart?"
Jessica said, "No, you're a good man. But you're not good to me. It's all for another woman."
Gabriel's chest heaved with anger. "Jessica."
He called her name, his lips trembling. He was unable to speak for a long time.
Jessica softened her voice as she sensed his agitation. "Gabriel, I don't mean to anger you, nor do I want to argue with you. I've said it before, I hope we can part on good terms, and not leave each other in a mess."
Jessica continued, "Think about it, you've always loved Diana. Haven't you always longed to be with her? Now I'm letting go, I'm agreeing to the divorce, I'm willing to make it happen. Why can't you agree? During all these years, I have always wholeheartedly been your wife and almost never resisted you. You enjoyed that feeling. But now, I’m initiating the divorce, and your male pride can't take it. You're hurt, so you don't want to let go."
Jessica sighed, "But Gabriel, I've said it before, a marriage without love won't last. There's no love between us, so the demise of our relationship is inevitable. Let go so we can leave each other with the last bit of dignity, won't you?"
