Chapter 427 Joy and Sweetness in Hardship 2
"What is it?" Gabriel's voice became hoarse.
Although he hadn't personally experienced those past events, listening to Jessica speak softly, he felt as if he were standing beside her, witnessing everything.
At that time, he wasn't with them.
His Jessica took care of Gilbert and Freddy all by herself, especially when Freddy was seriously ill. She had no one to rely on. How strong and resilient she must have been to make it through to now.
"You just heard it: 'Mom, why is everything in the hospital so white? The beds, the walls, everything is white. It's not warm at all, and it smells like disinfectant everywhere. It's not pleasant at all.'"
Her Freddy didn't like the hospital.
Freddy could only cautiously and tactfully express his thoughts.
And Freddy, to avoid making her sad, kept trying to hold on.
Jessica could see that he wanted to leave, but for the sake of his illness, she pretended not to understand and kept him in the hospital.
Looking back on everything now, she felt even more that she had been too cruel.
Turning to face her, Gabriel looked seriously at her. "Jessica, don't blame yourself, and don't worry."
"Tomorrow's opportunity is once in a lifetime. We definitely won't give up. I'll find the best way to get Freddy to agree to go to the hospital himself, without forcing him, okay?"
"Really?" Jessica's eyes immediately lit up with joy.
"Yes, I promise." He reached out, took the wine glass from Jessica's hand, and drank it all in one gulp.
"The night wind is chilly, and you're not dressed warmly. You shouldn't stay out in the wind. I know raising children is very hard, especially two energetic and mischievous boys. You probably haven't had a good rest in years."
"So now, don't think about anything. Just go take a hot bath and get a good night's sleep. Leave everything else to me. I promise you'll be satisfied, okay?"
Jessica nodded. "Thank you, Gabriel. Thank you for being with me at such an important time."
"You're talking nonsense again. We agreed, not just now, but for a lifetime."
"Yes, a lifetime."
After her bath, Jessica told Gilbert and Freddy their bedtime and reminded them to go to bed early, then went to the bedroom alone.
She was indeed very tired, so after Gabriel's promise, she relaxed completely and fell asleep as soon as she got into bed.
During the night, Gabriel came in to cover her with a blanket.
The second time he came in, Jessica had kicked off the blanket.
He lovingly touched her hair and covered her with the blanket again.
At the same time, he sighed indulgently. "You're already Gilbert and Freddy's mom. They're so well taken care of, but you don't know how to take care of yourself."
Fortunately, he came, everything was just right, not too late.
If he had been any later, he couldn't imagine what would have happened.
Gazing at her peaceful and gentle sleeping face, Gabriel leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Sleep well, leave everything to me."
Then he turned off her phone alarm.
Closing the door, Gabriel tiptoed out.
He went to the balcony and made several phone calls.
When he came back, he had already given instructions over the phone.
This time, he was checking on the progress.
He learned that everything was going smoothly and would be completed by midnight, which made him breathe a sigh of relief.
He played with Gilbert and Freddy for a while, and when it was time, he got their clothes ready for them to take a bath.
It might have been their first time experiencing such a themed park, so Gilbert and Freddy were reluctant to leave.
Although their bodies were in the bathroom, their minds were still on the fun they had just had.
After their bath, to avoid disturbing Jessica, Gabriel took them to another room to sleep.
"Dad, where's Mommy? Isn't she sleeping with us?" Freddy asked first.
"Mommy is a bit tired. I want her to sleep a bit longer. I'll sleep with you tonight, okay?"
Gilbert, being more independent, thought for a moment and quickly nodded. "Okay."
Freddy hesitated, "But I always sleep with Mommy. I still want to sleep with Mommy."
Gabriel patiently tucked him into bed and softly asked, "Did you have fun here? Do you like it, Freddy?"
"It was so much fun. I like it. Dad, can you bring me to places like this again?" Freddy asked expectantly.
This was the second time he had said this today, showing how much he liked it.
Gabriel nodded readily. "Of course. Now let me ask you if the hospital wasn't all white, didn't smell like disinfectant, and the rooms were decorated like this place, and the doctors could cure your illness, would you be willing to go?"
Freddy seemed to think for a moment, tilting his head and pondering.
Then he nodded. "Dad, if the hospital was really like you said, I would be willing to go."
"But I've been to the hospital so many times. It's not like that at all."
At this moment, Gabriel suddenly produced a toy from behind and handed it to Freddy.
"That was before. Now with me, it's different. I can do magic, so I can make the hospital look like a place you like. Shall we go see it together tomorrow?"
"Really?" Freddy was still doubtful.
"Of course, I wouldn't lie to you. How about this, we'll have Gilbert be the judge. If I'm not lying, we'll stay in the hospital for a while. If I am lying, you can punish me however you want."
Blinking, Freddy still thought Gabriel's words were unlikely.
But he was tempted by the offer, so he quickly nodded. "Okay, Gilbert, you have to be fair and not side with Dad."
"Of course, I'm an honest kid." Gilbert patted his little chest and promised earnestly.
That night, Gabriel slept with Gilbert and Freddy.
Before he had only heard people say that raising children was a tiring job, almost torturing, and he didn't take it seriously.
However, that night, sleeping with Gilbert and Freddy, he truly and deeply experienced it.
And he found it was no exaggeration.
One night, eight or nine hours.
He had woken up countless times to cover Gilbert and Freddy with the blanket. Too little, and he was afraid they'd be cold; too much, and he was afraid they'd be hot.
So he had to feel their temperature, check if their hands were cold, or if they were sweating.
Just as he managed to fall asleep, Freddy kicked him in the leg.
Suddenly, Gilbert kicked him hard in the stomach.
And even though they were sleeping vertically, they somehow ended up sleeping horizontally.
So, throughout the night, his head was kicked by their little feet countless times.
In short, it was sudden and painful.
That night of sleeping with them left a deep impression on Gabriel, one he would never forget.
But even so, he still felt very happy.
The most surprising moment was at dawn when his alarm went off.
Gilbert and Freddy crawled over, eyes still closed and kissed him on the face.
And they said in unison, "Mommy, good morning! Your alarm is ringing!"
