Chapter 244 Gabriel's Severe Illness
Jessica didn't answer him immediately, but thought, 'Is Gabriel sick? Is it because he got drenched in the rain all night?'
"Sorry, I have my own things to deal with, and besides, we already broke up," Jessica took a deep breath and said resolutely.
"But Mr. Walton has a high fever now, and he's completely out of it. He refuses to go to the hospital and keeps calling your name," Oscar said.
"He's an adult; he should be responsible for his own actions. And with so many of you there, I don't believe you can't get a sick person to the hospital," Jessica responded.
"Jessica," came Gabriel's low voice from the other end of the phone. "Jessica, I really didn't mean it."
Unable to listen any longer, Jessica immediately hung up the phone.
After washing up, Jessica went to work at the hospital.
She was busy all day, barely having time to take a sip of water or go to the bathroom. For lunch, she only had a protein bar to barely fill her stomach.
She didn't dare let herself stop. Once she stopped, she would start thinking about the past few days, thinking about him, thinking about Diana.
As soon as she thought about it, her heart couldn't calm down.
Sometimes, being busy was a good thing.
When you were busy, you would forget everything.
She didn't dare pick up her phone or check any information related to him.
It wasn't until after work that she picked up her phone and was startled.
There were dozens of missed calls from Oscar, almost one every half hour.
She had just changed her clothes and stepped out of the department when she saw Oscar coming towards her.
Seeing her, Oscar ran over, panting, as if he had seen a savior. "Ms. Morgan, thank goodness, I've found you. Mr. Walton is really very sick. He's been at home, refusing to go to the hospital."
Jessica's heart softened a bit as she heard this.
But she still said firmly, "If he's sick, he should go to the hospital. I'm not his private doctor; there's no use in finding me."
Oscar answered, "Ms. Morgan, I'm really out of options and have to bother you. We've tried everything today, even trying to force Mr. Walton to the hospital as you suggested, but..."
He continued after a pause, "Those bodyguards were all beaten black and blue and thrown out by Mr. Walton."
She sneered, "Isn't he sick? He seems to have much strength."
He explained, "You know Mr. Walton's strength. Even when he's sick, ordinary people are no match for him. And who would dare to really fight him?
"Now Mr. Walton has locked himself in his room. He hasn't eaten or drunk anything all day, and there's no sound from inside. I'm really worried."
Oscar did his best to make the situation sound as dire as possible.
Jessica bit her lip, her heart aching.
She struggled internally but ultimately couldn't overcome her concern for him. She nodded lightly. "Alright, but I'm going there once only. If he still refuses to go to the hospital, there's nothing I can do."
Oscar was overjoyed. "Thank you, Ms. Morgan. As long as you're willing to go, Mr. Walton will definitely go to the hospital."
When Jessica arrived, the bedroom door was tightly locked.
She reached out and knocked on the door.
Before she could speak, Gabriel's angry voice came from inside. "I said, leave me alone."
Jessica knocked again.
"Go away!" he shouted even louder.
Pressing her lips together, she looked helplessly at Oscar. "See? My coming here is useless. I'm not that important to him.
"Maybe you all found the wrong person from the start. The person he wants to see isn't me, but..."
Before Jessica could finish her sentence, the door suddenly opened.
The next moment, she was pulled into the room by a strong force.
Then the door was slammed shut.
It was very dark inside, not even a light was on. Jessica was startled.
Just as she was about to speak, Gabriel's strong body pressed against her, pinning her against the door.
In the darkness, he seemed to smile, his sexy voice spilling from his lips. "Jessica, I knew you would come. I knew you still cared about me."
With that, his arms, like steel, wrapped tightly around her waist, and his whole body pressed heavily against hers.
"Gabriel, stop being a jerk. Let me go," Jessica shouted.
But the person pressing against her didn't respond, not even moving.
"Gabriel, stop pretending you can't hear me. You're crushing me. Get up," Jessica shouted.
But the person on top of her still didn't move or respond.
Jessica realized something was wrong. She reached out and poked him hard. "Gabriel?
"Hey, Gabriel, say something.
"Wake up!"
Now, Jessica was really scared.
She reached out and touched him, realizing he was burning up. His whole body was like fire, and his head was too hot to touch.
Jessica quickly moved, turned on the light, and helped him to the couch.
She called Oscar to get the car.
At the hospital, the doctor examined him and immediately prescribed medication and an IV.
The doctor said it was serious, that he had been feverish for a day and a night, and hadn't eaten or drunk anything, almost dehydrated.
A day and a night?
Jessica thought about it. That meant he had been feverish since last night.
"His lungs are infected. Luckily, you brought him in now. Any later, and he would have been in the ICU. Family members need to take good care of him these days," the doctor said.
"Yes, doctor, I understand," Jessica said.
After seeing the doctor off, she waited by the side.
On the bed, Gabriel was getting an IV. Because of his illness, he looked particularly weak, even his lips were pale.
His lips were thin, with a beautiful lip line.
Sometimes, Jessica even thought that she might have been attracted to his looks. If he weren't so good-looking, she might not have fallen in love at first sight, and there wouldn't have been these years of love and entanglement.
Maybe they could have found their own happiness.
But if it was just his looks, there were plenty of good-looking people around her. Why didn't she fall for someone else?
Sometimes, she even wished she could be less steadfast, and more fickle. Maybe then she wouldn't be hurting so much.In the end, it seemed that fate had brought them together, but they were never meant to be.
After staying for two hours, until Gabriel's condition stabilized and his fever subsided, Jessica got up and looked at Oscar. "Take good care of him. I'm leaving."
"Ms. Morgan," Oscar wanted to stop her, but he couldn't find the words.
At this moment, he could only pray for Gabriel to wake up soon.
Whether it was his prayers being heard or Jessica's words that stimulated him, suddenly, Gabriel opened his eyes and reached out, grabbing Jessica's hand.
