Chapter 469 From Beginning to End, Always Deeply in Love
Jessica nodded. "Yes!"
Tina looked over. His tall figure was rendered even more attractive in the sunset, with clear contours and an intense gaze that made her almost swoon.
It wasn't just her, but several young nurses had found excuses to visit this ward more frequently these days.
She knew the reason—most of them were probably drawn by his looks.
'If it were him...'
Tina had mulled over this thought countless times in her mind.
She agreed a thousand times over.
But the person he was infatuated with wasn't her.
Besides, he would oppose the idea of blind dates or arranged marriages.
Even if she couldn't win his favor, at least she shouldn't make him dislike her.
So, Tina gently pressed her lips together. "He probably doesn't like the idea of blind dates."
This reminded Jessica.
"You're right, I was careless. I was too impatient and almost did something wrong."
On the other hand, Vincent had a great time with Gilbert and Freddy.
Suddenly, a voice came from the doorway, "Vincent!"
Madison quickly ran in and threw herself into Vincent's arms. "Vincent, why didn't you tell us you were hurt? Mom and I were worried."
As soon as she finished speaking, Ennifer appeared at the door, arm in arm with Alexis.
At that moment, Jessica was stunned.
She realized that Vincent probably hadn't told his family about his injury to avoid worrying them.
So she hadn't prepared herself mentally for this and certainly hadn't expected to meet his family.
Jessica had interacted with the Lucas family before, and Alexis and Ennifer had treated her very well, almost like a daughter-in-law.
But now, five years had passed, and not only had she and Vincent not ended up together, but she felt like she had also wasted so much of his time.
Thinking about this, Jessica felt extremely guilty.
"Mrs. Lucas, Ennifer." Jessica greeted them proactively.
They were surprised to see Jessica.
After stunning, Ennifer was the first to react. "Vincent mentioned you were back. I thought it would be a while before we saw you, but here you are so soon."
"I should have been more considerate and gone to visit you and Mrs. Lucas sooner."
Alexis remained as gentle and kind as ever. "Jessica, thank you for looking after Vincent. He must have caused you quite a bit of trouble in your hospital."
"Mrs. Lucas, you're too kind," Jessica said, pulling Tina over. "This is my colleague Tina. She's been taking care of Vincent these past few days. If anyone deserves thanks, it's her."
"Mrs. Lucas, it's my duty as a doctor. No need to be so formal." Tina said.
Alexis smiled warmly. "No, I must thank you. I know Vincent's personality. He can be very stubborn. This time, he didn't tell us anything about his injury. If I hadn't called his boss today, I wouldn't have known."
"Mrs. Lucas, Vincent didn't want to worry you. He planned to tell you once he recovered." Jessica reassured her.
"I know, but as a mother, I can't help but worry."
Looking toward the window, Jessica waved. "Freddy, Gilbert, come over here."
"Okay, Mommy."
Gilbert and Freddy immediately ran to Jessica.
Jessica looked at Alexis and instructed them, "This is Mr. Lucas's mom. Say hello."
"Hello, Mrs. Lucas!" Gilbert and Freddy said in unison.
Hearing their innocent and clear voices, Alexis felt a mix of emotions.
She felt a bit of joy, but also some melancholy and sadness.
Five years had passed, and Jessica's children were all grown up now, and twins at that. It was truly enviable.
Looking at Vincent, still single, the contrast made Alexis feel a bit of a gap.
"Jessica, are these twins...?" Alexis asked.
Jessica didn't avoid the question and answered openly, "They're the Walton family's. I conceived them with Gabriel before I went abroad."
Even though she knew the answer, Alexis still asked again, maybe just to hold onto a glimmer of hope.
Such adorable children—if only they were Vincent's!
But since Vincent and Jessica were not meant to be, she couldn't force it. She was confused and always clung to a bit of delusion.
After chatting for a while, Jessica said, "Mrs. Lucas, since you're here now, we won't disturb your time with Vincent. If you need anything at the hospital, you can find me."
"Alright, be careful on your way back with Gilbert and Freddy."
Jessica and Tina left with Gilbert and Freddy.
After they left, Madison quickly closed the door and asked, "Vincent, are Gilbert and Freddy Gabriel's children?"
"Yes."
Madison sighed, "If you had met her first, Gilbert and Freddy might have been your children, and Mom would already have grandchildren."
Ennifer shot her a look, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Ennifer, I was just imagining and sighing."
"If you don't speak up, people won't know what you're thinking."
Madison fell silent.
Ennifer was always spoke quickly and decisively, never wasting words.
"Alright, I won't say anything."
Alexis walked over and looked Vincent up and down, making sure he was okay before she felt relieved.
"Mom, it's just a minor injury. I'm already healed. It's nothing," Vincent said.
"A minor injury you kept from me. I think it's quite serious."
"Mom, I'm fine now."
Alexis double-checked, and then finally felt at ease.
Thinking about Jessica and the children, she felt a bit regretful. "Madison is right. You and she were just not meant to be. Otherwise..."
Vincent interrupted her, "Mom, Madison was stirring things up. Why are you following along?"
"Alright, I won't say more. Now that Jessica is back and her children are grown up, it's been five years. You should let go of that feeling and find a nice girl to settle down with. If I wait another five, I might never get to hold a grandchild."
"Mom!" Vincent grabbed her hand and spoke seriously, "I need to tell you something important. Over these five years, my feelings for her were my personal choice."
"Jessica, like you, has always encouraged me to find a girlfriend and even wanted to cut ties with me. I know she didn't want to hold me back. Up until now, she's the girl I love, so I hope you won't blame her or be angry with her. Don't hold any grudges against her."
"She didn't hold me back. From start to finish, I willingly chose this path."
