Chapter 522 Heartbeat Again 1
Francis looked at her coolly, without answering or making a move.
Jessica blinked her eyes, looking at him pitifully.
"I heard riding a motorcycle can be dangerous, especially for a pregnant woman like me. If I don't wear a helmet..."
Before Jessica could finish her sentence, Francis suddenly took off the helmet from her head.
After adjusting the straps inside, he put it back on Jessica.
Jessica stood on tiptoe and leaned towards him, "It's not fastened yet. Can you fasten it for me?"
"Do it yourself."
"You do it," Jessica insisted.
With a sigh, Francis relented.
Bending down, he fastened the helmet strap for Jessica.
"Thank you!"
Jessica smiled, her lips curling into a big, radiant smile.
Seeing her bright, sunny smile, Francis was briefly lost in thought.
His heart felt like it was being stirred, creating ripples.
"Get on, I'll take you back."
"Okay."
Francis got on the motorcycle first, and Jessica followed closely behind.
Suddenly, a pair of soft arms wrapped around his waist, and Jessica's unique fragrance wafted to his nose.
It wasn't a strong perfume; it was a subtle, pleasant scent.
Moreover, it felt somewhat familiar.
"You better not hold onto me. Grab the back of the motorcycle," Francis said.
"But holding onto you feels safer. I'm scared to grab the back."
"If Celia sees this, she'll be jealous and angry."
"Okay, fine."
Jessica didn't argue.
She let go, got off the motorcycle, and took off the helmet, handing it back to Francis. "Here, take it back. Thanks for your kindness today. I'll go back on my own."
By now, it was getting dark.
Without the sun, the breeze had turned chilly.
Jessica hugged her arms tightly, rubbed her hands together, and limped to a nearby bench to sit down.
Francis told himself to rev the engine and leave.
After all, she was just a passing acquaintance, and she already had a husband and a child.
But at that moment, his brain suddenly lost control.
He stopped the motorcycle and walked towards Jessica.
"Are you mad?" he tentatively asked.
Jessica hugged her small frame, sitting proudly with her back straight, her gaze fixed on the rolling waves in the distance.
She pressed her lips together, remaining completely silent.
Seeing her small, shivering body, Francis was surprised to find himself hit with a wave of heartache.
How could he have such feelings for a pregnant woman?
The only woman he should care about was Celia.
The wind picked up, and the temperature dropped further.
Jessica felt even colder.
The temperature difference between day and night was significant, and she hadn't yet adapted after just a few days.
Jessica had worn thin clothes when she came out, and now she was genuinely cold.
Suddenly, Jessica sneezed and hugged her arms tighter.
Seeing this, Francis quickly took off his jacket and draped it over Jessica.
"Aren't you supposed to be gone by now?" Jessica turned to look at him.
"You're a pregnant woman with a big belly, unfamiliar with the place. If something happened to you, I'd feel guilty."
"Let's go. I'll take you home. You have a baby in your belly. As a mother, you shouldn't be so reckless."
These words moved Jessica.
She wasn't just herself anymore; she was a mother.
"But I need to hold onto you, or I'll be scared," Jessica said, looking up like a proud princess.
Francis relented, "Suit yourself."
Getting back on the motorcycle, Jessica leaned against his back, holding his waist tightly.
The familiar scent enveloped her, and Jessica closed her eyes, feeling particularly content.
As the motorcycle sped along, the sea breeze whooshed past.
Jessica didn't feel cold at all; instead, she felt warm inside.
She reached out and gently touched her belly, "Baby, did you see? Your dad is riding the motorcycle with us."
"By the way, your dad looks so cool riding the motorcycle, very charming."
Halfway through the ride, Francis suddenly questioned, "Where do you live?"
Jessica was stunned for a moment, not knowing how to describe it.
She was someone who didn't know directions.
"You don't even know your home?"
Francis was incredulous. Jessica was bold, trusting him so much, not afraid he might have bad intentions.
"Is there any landmark or something nearby? Tell me."
"I just remember it's a famous bed and breakfast," Jessica said.
"What else?"
"That's all I remember."
So, Francis took Jessica almost across half the island before finally finding her home.
After getting off, Jessica took off the helmet.
As she removed the helmet, a breeze blew, and she gently lifted her head. Instantly, her long hair flowed like a waterfall in the wind.
The flowers on the trees were also blown by the breeze, falling gently onto Jessica's soft hair.
Under the pale yellow streetlight, a few small flowers adorned Jessica's beautiful hair, accentuating her gentle charm.
Francis was almost stunned.
For a moment, he could only hear his rapid heartbeat.
That heartbeat, urgent and passionate, left him completely at a loss.
Handing the helmet to him, Jessica smiled, "Thank you for today. Can I treat you to a meal sometime?"
Francis hadn't even reached out for the helmet yet. Looking at Jessica, he unconsciously nodded, "Sure."
"Don't you want your helmet?" Jessica smiled, her voice gentle.
"Yes."
Francis quickly took the helmet.
"Since you're home safe, I'll be going now."
"Okay."
Jessica nodded, turned around, and limped inside.
After taking a few steps, as if remembering something, she turned back to look at Francis, "Oh, I forgot to tell you something."
"What is it?"
"It's nothing major, just wanted to tell you that you look so cool riding a motorcycle like you're a decade younger."
Seeing her bright, sparkling eyes, Francis's heart couldn't help but start beating once more.
He wanted to stop it, but his heart was racing out of control.
Knowing full well he shouldn't respond.
But the words were already out of his mouth, "How many men have you said that to?"
Jessica smiled, "Do you want to know?"
"Just curious. It's okay if you don't say."
Jessica lifted her head, her bright eyes looking at him, and spoke seriously.
"Besides you, I've never said it to any other man."
