Chapter 238 Gabriel, I Know Everything

Upon arriving at the hospital, Jessica quickly adjusted her mood and changed into her work clothes.

She kept telling herself that no matter how bad life got, she couldn't bring her bad emotions into her work.

At work, she couldn't be swayed by personal feelings; she had to be a calm and responsible doctor for her patients.

Just as she finished changing, she received a call about a patient with a brain hemorrhage in critical condition.

Jessica didn't dare waste a moment and immediately rushed to help.

Because the patient was elderly and had other complications, the resuscitation took nearly ten hours.

No one took a bite of food, nor did they take a sip of water.

Everyone persevered.

By the end, everyone was exhausted, and the attending physician collapsed on the floor, gasping for breath.

The patient's condition was critical, but fortunately, the timely rescue left only one leg paralyzed.

Although the final outcome wasn't ideal, it was the best they could hope for.

Jessica and her colleagues wheeled the patient out of the operating room, and everyone was shocked as soon as they exited.

An elderly man, William, with white hair and a cane, walked over shakily, tears in his eyes, and grabbed Flora's hands tightly. "Honey, how are you? Does it hurt?"

Then, their children learned from the doctor that one of Flora's legs would be paralyzed.

William wiped his tears instantly as he hearing that.

William then lowered his head, took Flora's hand in front of everyone, kissed it tenderly, and said seriously, "Honey, don't worry. You took care of me all your life since we were young. Now that you can't walk, it's my turn to take care of you.

"Even though you always say I don't do things well, but don't worry. I'll take good care of you.

"When you get better, we'll go home. From now on, I'll be your legs. Wherever you want to go, I'll go with you."

After sending Flora back to the ward, everyone was sighing.

It was rare to witness such a lifelong, loving relationship nowadays.

Everyone was envious and moved.

Jessica's eyes welled up with tears.

She thought of Gabriel at that moment.

This was a scene she had imagined countless times - holding each other's hands and growing old together.

She sighed and changed her clothes.

By the time she left the hospital, it was already seven o'clock.

The cold wind was biting, like a knife cutting into her face.

Her body wasn't fully recovered, and she hadn't eaten all day. She was actually very weak, but she had been holding on because she was helping in the operating room.

Now, with the wind blowing, she felt herself shivering uncontrollably.

At that moment, a car stopped in front of her.

The next moment, Gabriel opened the car door, walked out, and took her hand. "Did you have a tough day? You're late getting off work.

"Why are your hands so cold? Are you not wearing enough clothes?"

As he spoke, he led her into the car and had the heater turned up.

Jessica didn't respond to him.

Compared to the morning, she was much calmer.

However, she still hadn't figured out how to talk to him.

After a few minutes, feeling warmer, Jessica turned to him. "Gabriel, I know everything."

This time, she was very calm. "I know you went abroad to meet Diana, and you brought her back to treat her leg. I know everything."

Jessica thought she would be heartbroken, but after saying it, she felt an unprecedented sense of relief.

This matter no longer felt like a mountain pressing on her heart.

Gabriel panicked. He leaned over and hugged Jessica tightly. "Jessica, it's not what you think."

"Alright, then tell me what it is," Jessica said.

"I really went abroad for business. Meeting her was a coincidence, not intentional," Gabriel said.

Jessica smiled. "If it was a coincidence, I wouldn't say anything. You could just pass by each other like strangers and never intersect again.

"But you? You not only let her stay in your room, but you also brought her back yourself. Gabriel, did you forget? You promised me you would never contact her again, that even if you met, you would pretend to be a stranger.

"But what did you do?"

Jessica tried to calm herself, but she couldn't control herself in the end.

Gabriel held her tightly. "Jessica, I'm sorry. It's really not what you think. I have my reasons."

"Alright, then tell me what those reasons are," Jessica said coldly.

"Jessica, I didn't lie to you about one thing. When I was abroad, I was really in danger, and Diana saved me without hesitation," Gabriel said.

"So, because she saved you, you brought her back and decided to be with her? Gabriel, if you had already decided how to settle her, why are you still entangled with me?" Jessica retorted.

She continued, "You could have told me. You could have told me everything. I'm not a clingy woman. If you had decided to be with her, I wouldn't have clung to you. I would have let you go. But why did you lie to me?

"Do you know how much I trusted you? Do you know how I felt when I found out you brought Diana back? Gabriel, it's like you stabbed me in the heart. Do you know how much it hurts?"

Jessica's tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably.

But she quickly wiped them away.

This time, she didn't want him to see her cry.

She didn't want that at all.

"Jessica, I never thought about being with her. I just wanted to repay her for saving my life. I agreed to treat her leg to make up for my guilt. Once she recovers, I'll personally send her away," Gabriel explained.

"If that's the case, why couldn't you be honest with me? Do you think I'm that petty?" Jessica looked up, her eyes filled with sorrow. "And have you thought about what if the surgery fails and her leg doesn't heal? What will you do? Keep her and stay with her forever?"

Gabriel paused.

Honestly, he had always thought the surgery would succeed, and then Diana would go abroad, and he and Jessica could be together.

But he hadn't considered what would happen if the surgery failed and Diana's leg never healed, or even got worse.

She continued, "In fact, there are many ways you could repay her for saving your life like money, a mansion, even finding a doctor to treat her leg. I could accept all of that.

"But why did you bring her back and use yourself to make it up to her? Gabriel, you know what she feels for you. You know what your relationship was.

"But you still kept her by your side. Late at night, two people who once loved each other deeply in the same room. As your girlfriend, what am I supposed to think? When I feel her scent on your clothes and see her lipstick marks, what am I supposed to think?"
