Chapter 357 No, I Won't Marry
But there was nothing in front of her. Gabriel wasn't there at all. It was just a figment of her imagination.
She missed him so much.
Jessica went back to bed, turned off the light, pulled the blanket over herself, and tried to sleep. But the more she tried, the harder it was to fall asleep.
She had no idea how long it took, but eventually, she started to calm down. Still, sleep wouldn't come.
"Babies, I'm sorry. I really can't sleep, but you need to be good and rest," she whispered, gently touching her belly, worried about the babies.
Suddenly, she felt a slight movement in her belly. Could it be the babies moving? Thinking of this, Jessica held her breath, focusing all her attention, breathing cautiously. She closed her eyes and concentrated.
And then, she really felt it. The babies in her belly felt like tiny little fish swimming gently, although still very faint. This realization made her incredibly excited.
Jessica felt it for a while longer until the babies quieted down and stopped moving, then she got up. She took out her notebook and eagerly wrote down her thoughts.
[Gabriel, today is January 12th, and my feelings are all over the place. Knowing that the Haugen Group has invested and the Walton Group's crisis is resolved, I'm both happy and excited. Grandpa's hard work is finally preserved, and you don't have to worry anymore.]
[But I also feel really lost. Because I know this means you'll marry another woman. I'm sorry, I won't get the chance to wear the wedding dress you custom-made for me in front of you.]
[Something unexpected happened today. My belly suddenly hurt, and I thought something happened to the babies, which made me so nervous. But tonight, I actually felt them move. Can you believe it? I felt them moving inside me.]
[Life is truly amazing. This is our babies' first movement. I'm so happy and had to write it down. Just in case you ask one day, I can still tell you even after a long time.]
[Alright, good night, sweet dreams, and I hope my insomnia goes away.]
After writing in her diary, Jessica closed her eyes and fell asleep in no time.
Chelsea had been feeling really guilty these past couple of days because of the incident where she injured Gabriel's forehead.
She'd been thinking about visiting him. She even came up with several plans. But all of that was completely shattered one morning.
After breakfast that day, Rolf suddenly called her into the study, looking pleased.
Chelsea thought her plan had worked, that Gabriel had finally compromised and agreed to marry her. But she never imagined she'd hear something entirely different.
After Rolf finished speaking, Chelsea was stunned and looked at him in disbelief. "Grandpa, what did you say? You're freaking me out."
"Who is Henry? I don't even know him. This isn't ancient times anymore. How can you arrange a marriage for me? It's impossible. I will never marry someone I've never met."
"And I've made it very clear, the only person I want to marry is Gabriel. I want to be his wife. I don't care about being some mistress of the Loomis family."
After shouting, Chelsea was still in a daze, utterly confused. Just a few days ago, her grandpa was all in on helping her marry Gabriel. Why the sudden change of heart? And who was this Henry guy that had suddenly popped up out of nowhere?
"Grandpa, you must be mistaken. I'll say it again, the only person I want to marry is Gabriel."
"Or is it that he still doesn't agree, and you feel sorry for me, so you picked someone else for me? But Grandpa, I don't need it. I won't marry anyone but him." Chelsea stood her ground, firm in her decision.
Rolf had expected this reaction. His granddaughter was great in every way, except for her stubborn and willful nature. Normally, he would indulge her whims, but not this time.
He didn't have much time left and needed to secure her future. Only by arranging this marriage could he ensure that after he was gone, she wouldn't be bullied and could live a comfortable life. So this time, he couldn't give in to Chelsea.
"Chelsea, I'm not mistaken. Gabriel isn't right for you. He already loves someone else, and they have babies. If you marry him, you'll be a stepmother."
"No stepmother can get along peacefully with her stepchildren. Most importantly, he doesn't love you at all. He already hates you for breaking up his family. How could he treat you well?" Rolf tried to reason with her.
But Chelsea wasn't having it. She responded, shaking her head slightly, "Grandpa, I know you mean well and care about me."
"But I've thought it through. Even if he doesn't like me, it's okay. Didn't you and Grandma fall in love after marriage? As long as time passes, I believe he will love me."
Rolf sighed heavily and looked Chelsea in the eyes. "Chelsea, I understand that you believe love can grow after marriage. Your grandma and I did grow to love each other over time, but there's a big difference. Gabriel's heart is already with Jessica and their babies. He won't love you."
"No," Chelsea shook her head frantically. "No, Grandpa, I believe in him, and I believe in my choice. I will be happy marrying him."
"Grandpa, I'm begging you, please grant my wish. You promised me before, why did you change your mind in just two days?" Chelsea said, her voice breaking as she began to cry.
In the past, whenever she cried, her grandpa would always soften. She believed this time would be no different, and her grandpa would surely agree.
But Chelsea miscalculated. One minute, five minutes, a full ten minutes passed, yet her grandpa didn't relent.
Rolf's heart ached too. After his son and daughter-in-law passed away, Chelsea was all he had, and he usually spoiled her.
As long as he was around, he could pamper and protect her. But he knew he wouldn't be around much longer, so he had to be firm and plan her future.
With a determined voice, he said, "Chelsea, my mind is made up. You won't be happy marrying Gabriel. You must marry Henry."
"No, Grandpa," Chelsea cried, looking at Rolf in despair. "Grandpa, what's wrong with you? You always love me the most! Why are you forcing me?"
Suddenly, Chelsea thought of something. "I get it, it's Gabriel, isn't it? He gave you the idea. He wants you to marry me off to Henry, right?"
With that, Chelsea rushed out like a gust of wind.
