Chapter 183 I Miss You a Lot
Of course, Jessica missed him. How could she not? From the moment he left, she felt his absence. But this time, she didn't want to be the one to say it first. Call it cowardice or weakness, she just didn't have the courage.
"Do you miss me?" Jessica looked up, her voice steady and bold.
Gabriel leaned in, kissed her forehead, and cupped her face. His dark eyes locked onto hers as he said firmly, "Yes, I miss you a lot. Every moment, I missed you. From the moment I left, I've been missing you."
His words, like a gentle breeze, reached Jessica's ears. She listened, and a charming smile spread across her lips. "I miss you too." she said, reaching out to hug him tightly. In that moment, their hearts felt closer than ever.
Since Gabriel showed up, Jessica skipped the hospital cafeteria for lunch. Gabriel was too good-looking, and she didn't want them to become the center of attention. Plus, his identity needed to stay under wraps. So, they found a bench in the hospital's small park and sat down to eat.
The setting was simple, but Jessica's appetite soared when she saw the food Gabriel had brought—all her favorites. "Wow, Gabriel, you're amazing!" she exclaimed, her smile lighting up her face.
Gabriel smiled back, "Eat while it's warm."
"Okay," she replied, and they ate and chatted. Jessica was enjoying her meal, but Gabriel seemed a bit off. She quickly noticed. "What's wrong? You seem unhappy."
"A bit," Gabriel sighed. "You hid me here and didn't take me to the cafeteria. I feel kinda left out."
Jessica laughed at his pouty expression. Seeing her laugh, Gabriel's face darkened a bit, and he lowered his voice. "You're still laughing at me."
Jessica's smile grew wider. She covered her mouth, trying to stifle her laughter. "Gabriel, you can't blame me for this. It's your own fault."
"I didn't do anything." he protested.
"You didn't do anything, but your face did." she teased.
Gabriel spread his hands, looking innocent, "What can I do about my face?"
"Exactly! I just came out of my department and heard a bunch of girls talking about you. They were saying there's a super handsome guy around, extra, extra handsome."
Gabriel's mood lifted. Jessica continued, "They kept saying 'Handsome, super handsome.' How could I dare take you to the cafeteria? If they took you away, what would I do?"
Gabriel wasn't angry; in fact, he felt much happier. "Are you so worried about someone stealing me away?" he asked with a teasing smile.
Jessica shot back, "Aren't you worried about me being taken away?"
"Yes," Gabriel admitted, "so I made sure to come to you as soon as I got back from my business trip."
Jessica laughed, "That's more like it."
Halfway through their meal, a familiar voice rang out. "Jessica, I wasn't mistaken, it's really you!"
It was Tina.
Jessica looked up, surprised. "Tina, what are you doing here? Aren't you going to have lunch?"
"Oh, I had a big breakfast, so I'm not hungry. I brought a patient down for a walk since he hasn't exercised in a few days."
As Tina finished speaking, she noticed Gabriel standing next to Jessica. Her eyes widened. "Jessica, who is this handsome guy? Be honest, is he your boyfriend?"
"He's so handsome, no wonder you don't pay attention to Dr. Smith," Tina added with a teasing smile.
Jessica hesitated, glancing between Gabriel and Tina. "No, he isn't my boyfriend. Don't ask. Go back to work."
Tina pouted. "Okay, you got me excited for nothing." Before leaving, she whispered, "Jessica, go for it. This guy is even more handsome than Dr. Smith. You have to seize this opportunity."
After Tina left, an awkward silence settled between Jessica and Gabriel. Jessica quickly sensed something was off. Gabriel's mood had darkened.
"Gabriel," she called out, but he suddenly strode away without looking back.
Jessica panicked and followed him. "Gabriel, wait! Wait for me!"
Gabriel's long legs carried him quickly, and Jessica, juggling her things, struggled to keep up. Finally, Gabriel slowed his pace, unable to stay angry.
Jessica jogged to catch up and immediately hugged his arm. "Gabriel, what's wrong?" she asked softly.
Gabriel pressed his lips together, remaining silent. His mood was still low.
Jessica tugged at his sleeve. "Gabriel, are you angry?"
He still didn't speak.
Jessica moved in front of him, her tone more serious. "Are you mad because Tina asked if you're my boyfriend and I didn't admit it?"
Gabriel's expression softened slightly. At least she understood why he was upset.
Jessica felt a pang of guilt and explained softly, "It's not what you think. I didn't deny it on purpose. Your identity is important and sensitive. I don't want it to become gossip. And also..."
She kicked at the ground, sulking. "We just started, and no one knows what will happen in the future. I want to wait until things are more stable before telling others. It's not that I want to hide it on purpose."
"What do you mean by 'not knowing what will happen in the future'?" Gabriel asked, his anger flaring up again.
"I mean, maybe one day we'll break up, or maybe one day..." Jessica trailed off, unable to continue.
Some topics, some people, she always avoided.
"Go on." Gabriel urged.
"I have nothing more to say."
"Jessica, you can tell me whatever you're thinking. I don't want you to hide anything," Gabriel said patiently.
"Do you really want to know?"
"I want to know everything you're thinking."
Jessica took a deep breath, thought for a long moment, and finally said the name "Diana."
