Chapter 169 Take Good Care of Your Wife

The two didn't even look for a café; they just stood by the car.

Gabriel lit a cigarette, leaning lazily against the car. Through the haze of smoke, he spoke first, "You go first!"

A short sentence, but his imposing manner was unmistakable.

If it were anyone else, they would have been intimidated by his presence, but for Vincent, it was nothing to fear.

"Jessica and I are just friends," Vincent said.

Hearing this, Gabriel suddenly laughed.

The laughter was cold, as icy as frost.

"As a man, do you think I would believe you?" Gabriel said.

As if expecting this answer, Vincent didn't get angry and continued, "You can doubt me, after all, we have no relationship. But you shouldn't doubt Jessica. She is your wife. As her husband, you should love and protect her."

He paused, and suddenly, Vincent's gentle gaze turned sharp. "Not doubt her and hurt her."

"Gabriel, only a weak man bullies his own wife," Vincent added.

Wife?

Gabriel was stunned for a moment before he realized that Jessica hadn't told Vincent about their divorce.

At that moment, he felt a sudden sense of relief.

If possible, he hoped Vincent would never find out about it.

"If you really think that way, then stay away from her. I don't want a man constantly caring for my wife. Vincent, don't think I can't see through your intentions," replied Gabriel.

"I will keep my distance from Jessica, but..." Vincent looked at Gabriel, his tone suddenly firm. "I am keeping my distance not because of your threats and warnings, nor because I am afraid, but for Jessica's sake."

Vincent continued, "Gabriel, if you love Jessica, then cherish and protect her like a man; if you don't, let her go early and don't ruin her life."

Gabriel sneered, "Don't worry, I won't give you that chance."

"You better not."

The conversation concluded with evident tension, leading to the two parting on strained terms, as if it were an anticipated outcome.

Since Gabriel left in a huff last time, he and Jessica hadn't communicated for several days.

On Friday, the new employee training at the hospital ended, and according to tradition, there was a group dinner for the new employees.

The dinner was held in a luxurious private room.

It was said to be an extremely expensive and lavishly decorated private club in the city, and if you weren't someone of status, you couldn't get in.

So everyone was stunned and pleasantly surprised when they entered.

A few new employees asked in curiosity, "Arnold, is the company paying for this dinner? Will we have to pay out of our own pockets? I heard the per capita cost here is in the thousands. I haven't even started working yet and don't have money for this."

An employee nearby laughed, "Even if I had been working for a few years, I wouldn't be willing to eat here. One meal would cost a month's salary."

Hearing everyone's concerns, Director Sanders smiled and explained, "Don't worry, tonight's dinner is fully covered by the hospital. To be precise, it's covered by Dr. Smith personally."

"Dr. Smith?"

Some employees' eyes lit up at the mention of the name, eagerly asking, "Arnold, tell us, why is Dr. Smith treating us to dinner? We haven't even officially met him yet!"

"Well, it's a bit of a coincidence. I heard that one year, Dr. Smith happened to treat a batch of new employees to dinner. Later, everyone felt it was unfair, and since Dr. Smith isn't short on money, he generously made it a hospital tradition. Every year, he treats the new employees to dinner."

"Wow, Dr. Smith is amazing."

"Dr. Smith is so generous."

Immediately, there was a wave of praise for Jack among the crowd.

At this moment, a new employee asked the most anticipated question, "Arnold, will Dr. Smith be coming today?"

As soon as this was mentioned, all the new employees, especially the female ones, cheered and eagerly awaited the answer.

Arnold responded with a smile, "Don't get your hopes up too high. I really can't say for sure if he will come. He's attended a few times, but not every time. If he has free time, he usually stops by for a while."

Hearing this, the female employees silently prayed, "Please come, I am so looking forward to it."

"Yeah, I heard Dr. Smith is very handsome, both dashing and elegant. I've only seen his photo on the hospital's bulletin board. I really want to see him in person."

Listening to everyone's discussion, Arnold couldn't help but reveal a bit of inside information.

Arnold cleared his throat and, in a serious and formal tone, evaluated Jack, "Well, the rumors are true. Dr. Smith has always been the hospital's benchmark, not just in appearance but also in skill."

The female employees were instantly excited.

Suddenly, someone asked, "Arnold, does Dr. Smith have a girlfriend?"

This question caused another uproar, with everyone eagerly waiting, seemingly very interested in the answer.

Tina, holding Jessica's hand, was also excited. "I bet he already has a girlfriend."

Jessica suddenly remembered the conversation she overheard in the café. If she wasn't mistaken, it seemed like Dr. Smith's mother was urging him to find a girlfriend.

"I don't think he has one," Jessica said casually.

"No way. Such an outstanding man must be surrounded by women. How could he not have a girlfriend? He definitely has one," Tina said confidently.

Jessica was equally confident, stating, "I say he doesn't. Bet a month's worth of coffee, deal?"

Hearing this, Tina thought it was a sure-win bet and immediately agreed with Jessica, "Deal, it's a promise."

Then she added, "Jessica, don't blame me for being ruthless when the time comes."

Jessica smiled, crossing her arms without saying a word.

At this moment, Arnold answered with a meaningful smile, "Well, someone as outstanding as Dr. Smith must, definitely, absolutely not have a girlfriend! All the female employees in our hospital say he belongs to all of us."

"Wow, amazing, Dr. Smith doesn't have a girlfriend!"

"This is so unexpected!"

Everyone was exclaiming in surprise.

Tina, holding Jessica's hand, asked, "Jessica, how did you know?"

"Just a guess," Jessica said.

But Tina didn't believe her. "No, I think you're hiding something. Jessica, tell me, do you have some inside information? Oh, God, what have I done! Did I unknowingly offend someone important? Jessica, please have mercy and forgive me."

Tina, with her fair skin and petite frame, paired with such an exaggerated performance, made Jessica burst into laughter.

So Jessica decided to tell her the truth.
