Chapter 432 The Surgery Was Successful
Although Freddy was just a child, he still understood why Jessica would cry when he was sent into the operating room. His illness was never as easy to be cured as everyone told him.
He was just pretending not to know, he knew everything in his heart.
However, he didn't want his parents to be worried and sad, and he didn't want his mother to cry so heartbreakingly.
Soon, Freddy was wheeled into the operating room.
It wasn't until the operating room doors closed that Jessica leaned into Gabriel's arms and cried.
At this moment, Gilbert ran over and hugged them tightly.
Gilbert looked at them with clear, bright eyes. "Mommy, is Freddy in danger? He will get better, right?"
Jessica wiped away her tears, squatted down, and hugged Gilbert tightly. "Why are you asking this?"
"Because Dr. Carr said so. He said Freddy is very sick, and it's not easy to cure him. If the surgery doesn't go well, he might not be able to come out of the operating room."
"When did Dr. Carr say that?"
"The last time Freddy was in the hospital when you were talking to Dr. Carr, Freddy and I overheard."
Upon hearing this, Jessica instantly picked up Gilbert, tears streaming down uncontrollably.
No wonder she felt something was different when Freddy went in.
It turned out that Freddy knew everything.
He was afraid the surgery was dangerous, afraid he might never wake up and see his parents again.
So he mustered the courage to ask his parents for a kiss.
Thinking of that moment, Jessica's tears flowed like a broken dam.
"I'm sorry, Freddy, it's all my fault."
Her Freddy was so good, why did he have to suffer so much?
"Mommy, Freddy will come out, right?" Gilbert looked up again, his clear eyes filled with unease and panic.
Gabriel hugged them tightly, his steady and powerful voice ringing out clearly, "Freddy will come out, I believe it. Do you believe it?"
"I do." Jessica wiped her tears and nodded firmly.
"Then I believe it too." Gilbert also nodded firmly.
The waiting time was torturous.
Jessica sat on a chair holding Gilbert, while Gabriel held their hands tightly.
The entire corridor was particularly quiet, only the cold light above shone down.
At first, they could comfort themselves, believing the surgery would go smoothly and Freddy would come out safely.
However, as time ticked by and the light in the operating room stayed on, Jessica began to panic.
It was already dinner time, yet none of the three had any appetite for dinner.
They all stared nervously at the operating room door.
Hours passed, and it was already late at night. Gilbert's body was starting to give out; he drooped his head, unable to muster any energy.
But he still forced his eyes open.
"Gilbert, if you're tired, sleep in my arms!" Jessica said, heart aching as she held him.
Gilbert shook his head firmly. "No, Mommy, I won't sleep. I want to wait until Freddy comes out safely."
Knowing Gilbert was as worried as she was and wouldn't sleep well even if he did, Jessica didn't insist.
As the temperature dropped late at night, she held Gilbert tighter.
Suddenly, she felt a weight on her, it was Gabriel draping them over with his coat.
Seeing him in just a shirt, Jessica was worried. "You would catch a cold, put your coat back on."
"I'm okay, you keep it."
The corridor remained silent.
After an indeterminate amount of time, suddenly, the light in the operating room went out.
Gabriel ran over as fast as he could. Jessica, holding Gilbert, had numb legs and was slower to get up.
But she also rushed over with Gilbert in her arms.
"Dr. Carr, how is Freddy?" As he asked, Gabriel's heart pounded wildly.
The anxiety and fear were almost like his heart was about to leap out of his chest.
Knowing they were anxious, the doctor removed his mask and patted Gabriel's shoulder. "The surgery went relatively well. Now it depends on Freddy's post-op recovery. If there's no severe rejection, everything should be fine."
Hearing this, Gabriel looked up and finally let out a deep breath.
He quickly turned around and hugged Jessica tightly.
Jessica hugged him back, finally releasing her emotions. "That's great, Gabriel, my Freddy, he's safe!"
"From now on, we can be a happy family of four, right?"
Gabriel, unable to contain his excitement, stroked her hair repeatedly, his voice choked with emotion and tears in his eyes. "Yes, from now on, we'll all be fine. Once Freddy recovers, we'll go home."
"Okay."
Seeing his parents hugging excitedly and hearing their words, Gilbert finally smiled happily. "Mommy, Daddy, let's take Freddy to his room."
"Okay."
At this moment, Freddy was being wheeled out.
He was still under anesthesia, lying on the bed with his eyes closed, lips pursed, and long eyelashes like fans.
At a glance, Freddy looked like he was peacefully sleeping.
On the way back to the room, Jessica stayed with Freddy's bed, and Gabriel carried Gilbert.
After just a few steps, he felt a weight on his shoulder. Turning to look, he saw Gilbert had finally succumbed to sleep.
Gabriel knew Gilbert was exhausted but had forced himself to stay awake because Freddy hadn't come out yet.
Now that Freddy was safe, he could finally sleep peacefully.
Gabriel cradled Gilbert in his arms, lovingly kissing his forehead. "You've worked hard, Gilbert. Sleep well. Mommy and I will take good care of Freddy. Once Freddy recovers, you can play with him."
Finding a comfortable position in his arms, Gilbert continued to sleep soundly.
Once in the room, Gabriel laid Gilbert down and covered him with a blanket.
Then he went to check on Jessica and Freddy.
Jessica stayed by Freddy's side, her eyes filled with love, unwilling to look away for even a moment.
"It's very late. You should sleep. I'll watch over Freddy," Gabriel said.
As expected, Jessica shook her head. "I'm not tired. I just want to stay with him."
"Jessica, I know you're worried. But don't put too much pressure on yourself."
"Besides, the surgery is just the first step. Post-op care and recovery are the most important. We wouldn't trust anyone else with Freddy, so we must take care of ourselves. Only if we're well can we have the energy to take good care of him and Gilbert."
