Chapter 394 Vincent Reveals the Truth
"Yes, the flight is at nine tomorrow morning," Vincent nodded.
Looking at Jessica and then at the two babies in the small bed, he patiently reminded her, "You should get some rest. You've been too tired taking care of the two babies lately. You must have enough sleep. We'll be on the plane for over ten hours tomorrow."
"Okay, I'll go to bed early tonight," Jessica nodded.
"Alright, I'm leaving now."
With that, Vincent walked towards the door.
His back was still straight, tall, and sturdy.
However, whether in his heart or his steps, Vincent was not as relaxed as usual, instead, he felt a heavy burden.
With heavy steps, he closed the door.
Once the door was closed, the inside and outside were immediately divided into two worlds.
Vincent's routine was very regular. If it were a normal day, he would have already taken a shower and gone to bed.
But today, he went straight to the study.
His tall figure sat quietly in there.
The light in the study remained on.
For a long time, he didn't move in the slightest.
He sat until his legs were numb and his body ached before he looked outside.
It was already night.
Outside, it was as dark as ink, almost impossible to see one's hand in front of their face.
Only the occasional sound of wind blowing through the leaves could be heard.
Curling his lips, he suddenly smiled bitterly and murmured, "Vincent, when did you become such an insecure person?"
"Where is your gentlemanly demeanor?"
He couldn't help but mock himself.
But he found himself so reluctant to truly let Jessica go.
Having been a police officer for so many years, he always thought he was selfless, ready to sacrifice for public safety at any time.
He had never feared death.
But this time, he couldn't help but become selfish.
He had to admit, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
What should he do?
Should he tell Jessica the truth? It was indeed a difficult decision.
At this moment, there was a knock on the study door.
Ennifer pushed the door open, holding a steaming cup of coffee, and handed it to Vincent.
"Ennifer, how did you know I was here?" Vincent asked, not reaching out to take the coffee.
Ennifer placed the coffee in front of him and then slowly said, "I just checked on Jessica and the babies. Seeing the light in your study still on, I thought I'd come over and take a look."
"Besides, Gabriel fainted at Jessica's funeral today and is still in the operating room. I thought you might not be able to sleep."
Ennifer's words were indeed spot on.
After hearing her words, Vincent didn't get angry but felt a sense of relief.
"Ennifer, I haven't told Jessica about this yet. Do you think I'm being selfish and narrow-minded?"
Ennifer took a sip of her coffee and then slowly said, "When you truly love someone, who doesn't want to stay with them forever? So, I completely understand you."
"But the problem is, will this companionship, based on concealment and deception, really last? Will you have a clear conscience?"
"Vincent, I can't righteously tell you that true love is about fulfillment and letting go, but you can ask your own heart. Is this the kind of love you want? Will you always worry about the lie being exposed and her leaving you?"
"Is her soulless presence by your side love or marriage?"
After saying this, Ennifer shook her head vigorously.
"No, it's not like that. Love shouldn't be like that, and marriage shouldn't be like that either."
"Understanding and companionship, trust and support, that's what love should be like."
"Think about it carefully! It's late, I'm going back."
After saying what she wanted to say, Ennifer quickly left.
Vincent had always been very smart since he was a child, never causing his family any trouble.
The only thing was that he was too stubborn and persistent.
Just like when he decided to become a police officer.
Ennifer said she came to see Jessica and the babies, but the main reason was to see Vincent and give him some guidance.
Otherwise, she feared he would stay stuck in his world.
As it turned out, Ennifer's words were indeed very effective.
When she left, she didn't close the door, so the wind was blowing in.
Vincent shivered in the sudden cold wind, feeling as if he had suddenly woken up.
Yes, companionship based on deception and concealment would not last long and would never turn into love.
He admitted that he had selfish motives.
He had always kept his promise to Jessica, keeping her survival a secret, not leaking a bit.
Moreover, as long as Jessica took the babies and went abroad with him, it would be his best chance to pursue Jessica.
In the face of such a huge temptation, he fell.
So, even though he had seen Gabriel in so much pain and sorrow these days, he still hadn't told the truth.
And now?
Once he told the truth, the result was obvious: he would completely lose Jessica.
Jessica would return to Gabriel without hesitation.
Looking up, Vincent took a painful deep breath.
Ennifer was right. Even if he gained Jessica's temporary companionship through such means, he would always worry about her leaving.
He was even more worried that she would hate him once she knew the truth.
Yes, if Gabriel didn't make it through tonight, then in the future, once Jessica knew about this, she would never forgive him for the rest of her life.
So, even if he was reluctant, he had to tell the whole truth.
Looking at the time, it was already ten o'clock at night.
Vincent immediately called Ennifer, "Ennifer, how is Gabriel doing?"
"I heard he's still in the emergency room. The surgery has been going on for five or six hours, and the situation is very bad."
"Okay, Ennifer, I understand."
Hanging up the phone, without any hesitation, Vincent ran frantically towards Jessica's bedroom.
He knocked on the door forcefully.
Hearing the urgent knocking at the door, Jessica thought something big had happened.
She didn't even have time to put on her clothes and opened the door in her pajamas.
Seeing it was Vincent, she was surprised, originally thinking it was a servant knocking.
"What's wrong, Vincent? It's so late, you seem very anxious," Jessica tightened her pajamas and asked.
Vincent didn't care about any of that. He reached out, grabbed Jessica's wrist, and pulled her downstairs.
"Jessica, there's something very important and urgent. You must come with me immediately."
