Chapter 297 Making a Wish Under the Shooting Stars
"Narcissist."
Jessica couldn't help but grin a little as she said it.
Out of nowhere, she felt herself get lighter, and before she knew it, Gabriel had scooped her up.
"Hey, why'd you pick me up? Put me down."
"Nope."
Gabriel held her tight and kept walking.
"There are people around. I'm embarrassed. Put me down," Jessica tried again.
He chuckled and said, "Just rest your head on my chest. But honestly, it's dark; they can't see you clearly anyway."
Even with his reassurance, Jessica still felt a bit self-conscious.
And then, Gabriel carried her straight into a well-lit area.
When they got there, Jessica was stunned, completely forgetting she was still in Gabriel's arms.
In front of her, twinkling lights were set up like a sea of stars.
There were soft white tables and chairs below.
The table was already set with a lavish feast.
Red wine was poured, and a gentle breeze made the wine in the glasses sway, dancing with the wind, full of life.
Gabriel stepped forward, pulled out a chair like a gentleman, and gestured, "Ms. Morgan, your seat."
Jessica was taken aback.
She hesitated for a moment, but Gabriel had already taken her hand and led her to the chair.
Then, he pulled out a chair and sat down across from her.
The gentle breeze was a bit chilly, but not too cold.
Jessica took a deep breath, then looked up at Gabriel in surprise, saying, "It smells amazing. I think I smell flowers."
Just as she said that, a flower cart was slowly pushed up from behind and stopped next to Gabriel.
He stood up, took a few flowers with his slender fingers, and quickly wove them together.
Finally, a beautiful flower crown took shape in his hands, looking stunning.
"Is it pretty?" he asked with a smile under the soft light.
Jessica nodded gently.
"Then I'll put it on you."
He walked over to Jessica with the flower crown.
Soon, the beautiful flower crown was on Jessica's head. She took a light sniff, the fragrance of the flowers filling her nose, subtle and lingering.
At that moment, Gabriel suddenly extended his hand.
Seeing the shiny object in his palm, Jessica could hardly believe it.
"This even comes with a necklace. Where'd you find it?" she asked, her eyes wide with amazement and surprise.
When she saw those earrings in the collection room, she already thought they were rare.
She never imagined there would be a matching necklace.
Gabriel said, "The first time I saw it, I thought it should be a set, so I asked around. Sure enough, there was a necklace.
"After some effort, I got it a few hours ago and immediately had it sent for maintenance.
"Now that you're here, it's here too. For me, this is the best arrangement."
With that, Gabriel walked behind Jessica and personally put the necklace on her.
When the cool touch fell just below her collarbone, Jessica couldn't help but reach out and touch it, her heart filled with warmth.
She touched the necklace, then looked at the bracelet on her wrist, and gazed up at the stars in the sky. 'Grandpa, I know you're in heaven, watching over us, right? Look, Gabriel and I are doing great. Don't worry; I haven't let you down. I will be very, very happy.'
The evening breeze blew as the two leisurely enjoyed their meal.
But Jessica couldn't help but wonder why Gabriel picked a mountain restaurant for dinner.
"Why'd you choose this place?" she asked.
"That's a secret."
Maybe it was the beautiful night, the great atmosphere, or just being with the person she loved most, but Jessica found herself sipping more red wine than usual.
This caught Gabriel off guard.
He had poured the wine just to set the mood.
Knowing she had a low tolerance for alcohol and got tipsy easily, she usually drank very little.
But Jessica took a sip and liked it.
Then came the second sip, and the third...
Gabriel quickly reminded her with a smile, "This wine is sweet, but it packs a punch. Just taste a little; don't overdo it."
"Okay." Jessica nodded, saying, "But it's rare to find a wine I like this much. I promise, just a little more."
As it turned out, Gabriel wasn't going to let her have much more.
Soon, her glass was empty.
Just as Jessica was about to pour another, Gabriel had already instructed someone to take the bottle away.
"I still want a little more," she said.
Gabriel shook his head, saying, "If you drink more, you'll get drunk."
Jessica pouted.
"Since when did Mr. Walton become so stingy?"
"Yeah, a bit stingy. I don't care if others get drunk, but I have to take care of my own girl."
After dinner, as the night deepened, the wind grew cooler.
Jessica felt a bit cold, and the next moment, a warm embrace enveloped her from behind.
Gabriel wrapped her in his coat, and they wore it together.
He held Jessica's small hands, warming them.
"It's getting late. Aren't we heading back?" Jessica asked.
"We will, but we need to wait a bit," he said.
"OK."
Seeing his determined and mysterious look, Jessica didn't ask more and quietly waited as he said.
Five minutes, ten minutes...
Suddenly, in the twelfth minute, a bright light burst in the sky.
Then, one shooting star, two shooting stars, and then a whole cluster of shooting stars streaked across the sky.
Jessica never dreamed she would see shooting stars here.
She reached out, pointing at the shooting stars in the sky, as happy as a child.
She laughed and shouted, "Wow, shooting stars, Gabriel, they're really shooting stars! Make a wish, make a wish!"
She immediately closed her eyes, clasping her hands together, and made a wish with a face full of sincerity and seriousness.
Gabriel smiled, turned his head, and looked at the innocent and lovely girl in front of him. Her presence filled him with a sense of peace, a feeling that time itself had slowed down.
After making her wish, Jessica opened her eyes, her face beaming with joy.
"Did you finish your wish?" Gabriel asked.
"Yes." Jessica nodded and asked, "Why did you finish so quickly?"
"Because my wish is simple, just a few words, it was quick."
"Oh? What did you wish for?" Jessica suddenly asked.
She had asked casually, but Gabriel took it seriously.
He looked at her, his eyes full of seriousness and determination, saying, "It's really simple, Jessica. My wish is..."
