Chapter 308 Jessica Left
He must hate her now..
Jessica sat on the ground, hugging her knees, all by herself.
Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Her hair was a mess over her shoulders, but she couldn't be bothered to fix it.
The next morning, Gabriel got up and made breakfast, all of Jessica's favorite dishes.
He waited in the living room for ages, but Jessica never came down.
At first, he thought she might've stayed up too late and was just sleeping in.
But as time dragged on, Gabriel started feeling something was off.
Finally, he couldn't wait any longer and headed upstairs.
"Jessica."
He knocked on the door, but there was no answer.
"Jessica, come on, answer me or open the door," Gabriel called out again.
Still, nothing.
He couldn't wait any longer and kicked the door open.
The moment he stepped in, Gabriel had a sinking feeling.
But he kept telling himself it couldn't be true.
When he saw the empty room, he broke down.
He walked further in; the bed was perfectly made, spotless, with no sign of her.
'Jessica, why did you leave?'
He looked up, his heart aching like it was bleeding.
Suddenly, he ran downstairs, dialing Jessica's number.
Jessica had just reached the hospital entrance when Gabriel's call came in.
Seeing his name on the screen made her heart clench.
She left quietly and early because she didn't know how to face him.
Since he cared that she had been raped, any reasons or excuses she gave were pointless.
She hung up, put her phone on silent, and shoved it in her bag.
In her heart, she thought, 'I'm sorry, Gabriel. I love you, but if I can't give you my whole self, it's better if I leave your life."
She couldn't forgive herself either.
Today, she was late for the first time.
When she got to the hospital, Jessica didn't head straight to her department.
Instead, she went to the nursing home behind the hospital.
It was around nine or ten in the morning, and the sun was warm and bright. As soon as Jessica walked into the garden, she felt the warmth of the sunlight.
This was the sunlight she couldn't enjoy inside the hospital, so it felt especially warm and comforting.
There was a wooden bench nearby. After standing for a bit, she leaned on it and sat down, propping her chin with one hand, the other hand resting casually by her side.
For a good half hour, she did nothing but quietly watch the people coming and going around her.
But honestly, she didn't know what she was looking at, whether it was the people or the scenery.
Or maybe, she was just zoning out, looking at something ethereal.
But as she watched, suddenly, her tears started falling uncontrollably.
Maybe she was too lost in thought, this time, even she didn't notice.
Until a soft, cute voice sounded in her ear, "Mommy, that lady seems to be crying. She looks so sad!"
"Then Molly, would you like to comfort her? I'll wait here for you."
"Okay," Molly said.
Hearing their conversation, Jessica realized her face was cold and wet, and she was already in tears.
She reached out, hurriedly trying to wipe them away.
At that moment, Molly walked over, holding a tissue in her soft little hand and handed it to her, saying, "Miss, here's a tissue. Mommy asked me to comfort you."
Molly propped herself up on the bench with one hand and quickly sat next to Jessica.
Looking at Jessica with a serious expression, she said, "Miss, you're so pretty. If you cry, you won't look good."
That line hit Jessica hard. It was something he used to say.
He had once gently told her, "Sweetie, Jessica, don't cry. You're breaking my heart."
But now, in just two days, everything had changed, and she couldn't be by his side anymore.
Molly continued, "Miss, are you sad about something? Mommy says even the saddest things eventually pass. I like to cry too and have been sad about many things."
The little girl tilted her head, thinking for a moment, and said cutely, "Like when my favorite dress got dirty, when I argued with my best friend, or when Mommy and Daddy scolded me. But, as long as I eat some yummy snacks and sleep, everything is better the next day."
Jessica wiped her tears and couldn't help but smile at Molly, "You love to eat so much. Molly, you must be a little foodie."
Molly nodded, "Miss, this method really works. You should try it!"
Jessica reached out and lovingly patted her head, agreeing, "Okay, I promise you. I'll try it."
"Then I hope you find your happiness and joy soon." Molly stood up, took her mother's hand, and waved goodbye, "Miss, bye-bye!"
"Okay, Molly, bye-bye!" Jessica waved back with a smile.
She looked at Molly's mother and said, "Thank you; Molly's such a sweetheart."
She had to admit, after listening to Molly, she felt a bit better.
Maybe eating something would really improve her mood, and she'd have more courage to resign.
Jessica immediately thought of the café downstairs, where she could not only drink coffee but also enjoy a variety of desserts.
At this moment, it seemed perfect to have some dessert.
But as soon as she entered, Jessica didn't feel like eating anything sweet, only wanting something very bitter.
"An espresso, no sugar, please," Jessica said.
Espresso was already very bitter, and without sugar, it was hard to imagine how bitter it would be.
So the server asked again, just to be sure, "Miss, no sugar at all?"
"Yes, no sugar, please."
"To go?"
"To go."
"Alright, please wait a moment."
After waiting for a few minutes at the counter, Jessica got her coffee.
As she turned to leave, she suddenly felt a bit dizzy, and at that moment, Owen Hill barged in aggressively.
His sudden entrance caused him to bump into Jessica.
Caught off guard, Jessica spilled most of her coffee.
Some splashed on her, but most of it ended up on Owen.
Naturally, Owen was not pleased. Seeing it was just a woman, he immediately changed his expression and started cursing, "Are you blind? Look; you spilled coffee all over me. I'm telling you, this suit cost me two thousand dollars. You're lucky you ran into me today. Considering you're a pretty girl, I'll be generous and only ask for a hundred dollars in compensation."
Jessica was feeling very down and a bit unwell.
She didn't want to get entangled with Owen, listen to his cursing, or become the center of attention.
At this moment, she just wanted to get rid of the trouble.
So, without much thought, she took out her phone to transfer the money.
However, at that moment, a familiar voice came from ahead, "Wait; don't give him anything."
