Chapter 314 Tell Him the Reason
When Quentin showed up, Gabriel was already wasted at the bar.
The private room was a mess, bottles scattered everywhere.
Gabriel was sprawled on the couch, clutching a bottle and chugging it down.
This wasn't just drinking to forget; it was like he was trying to drink himself to death.
Quentin walked over, yanked the bottle from his hand, and asked, "Fight with Jessica? Drinking this much?"
"No," Gabriel shook his head. "It's way worse than a fight. If you're my bro, don't say anything. Just drink with me."
With that, Gabriel grabbed another bottle from the floor, popped it open, and started chugging again, as if the booze were just water pouring down his throat.
"Stop drinking." Even though Quentin got the whole drowning-your-sorrows thing, he couldn't take it anymore. He grabbed the bottle and smashed it, saying, "If you keep this up, you'll die here."
Gabriel let out a couple of bitter laughs, then suddenly clutched his stomach and staggered to the bathroom.
In the bathroom, he puked violently, like he was throwing up his soul.
By the end, the sink was filled with blood.
His lips were dried and stained with blood too.
Quentin couldn't stand it anymore and took him straight to the hospital.
The diagnosis was no surprise; alcohol poisoning and stomach bleeding.
It was clear how much he had drunk.
Meanwhile, in a small villa...
Jack got out of the car, kicked the door open, and stormed inside.
Seeing it was Jack, Patricia immediately put down her marine collagen and walked over happily. "Jack, why are you back now?"
But when she saw the wounds on Jack's face and body, she instantly got worried, asking, "What happened to your face? Who hit you?"
"Who hit me? You don't know? This was all your plan, wasn't it?" Jack sneered coldly at her.
Seeing Patricia stay silent, Jack felt a surge of anger.
"So what if it was?" Patricia's once kind face suddenly turned harsh. "I've endured and suffered for so many years, all so you could one day return to the Walton Family and reclaim everything that belongs to you."
Jack said, "Mom, when will you give up this idea? Jonah doesn't love you, and he won't accept me. I don't care about returning to the Walton Family or their wealth. Why are you so obsessed? Can't we just live our own lives? If you want status, I can give it to you. If you want wealth, I can give you that too. Why do you have to fixate on the Walton Family's things?"
Jack was furious.
Ever since he found out he was the Walton Family's illegitimate child, he had tried every way to distance himself from them.
He didn't care about being part of the Walton Family; in fact, the identity only brought him burden and shame.
Patricia said, "Jack, over the years, you've worked so hard for just a little bit of success. Do you remember the kind of life we lived abroad? But Gabriel? Just because of his Walton Family status, he gets whatever he wants. Why should he have it all? The Walton Family should have a share for you. As for your so-called achievements, they are nothing compared to the Walton Family's wealth."
Jack grabbed Patricia's shoulders, saying, "Mom, get a grip. Jonah doesn't care about us. Do you really think he'd let me back into the Walton Family? It's not happening."
Patricia sneered. "So what? Whether he admits it or not, you're his son, a Walton. I carried you for ten months and went through hell to give birth to you. I won't accept this. My biggest goal in life is to see you return to the Walton Family, take everything from Gabriel, and take everything from the Waltons."
Jack looked at her, defeated, asking, "So you knew about Jessica's identity all along, didn't you? You knew she was Gabriel's ex-wife, didn't you? Mom, what were you thinking? Making me marry his ex-wife, what do you take me for?"
"Yes," Patricia yelled at Jack. "I used you. For revenge, I didn't hesitate to use my own son. I want you to take everything from Gabriel—his lover, his career, everything. I won't let them go. I want them to hurt and suffer."
"And what about me? Am I just a pawn in your game?" Jack looked at her sadly.
Patricia stepped forward and gently cupped Jack's face, saying, "Jack, how can you say that? Even though I used you, it was all for your own good. I love you."
"Love me?" Jack sneered. "You're just venting your own anger."
Patricia said, "No, Jack, how can you misunderstand me like this? Do you know why I insisted you marry Jessica?"
"Didn't you just say it was to get back at Gabriel?"
Patricia shook her head. "That's just one reason. The main reason is that she holds shares in the Walton Family. Jack, as long as you marry her and become her husband, the shares in her hands will be yours. If we acquire some other scattered shares, we can completely oust Gabriel, and you can take control of the Walton Family."
Jack's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Patricia.
He had thought Patricia was just talking nonsense, but she was actually planning step by step.
He said, "Mom, wake up, will you? It's not that easy. Most of the Walton Family shares are in Gabriel's hands. We can't drive him out."
Patricia said, "No, I've checked. He only has 30% of the shares. Xavier gave 20% of the shares to Jessica. As long as we can get Jessica's shares, there's a glimmer of hope."
"That's impossible. Why would Xavier give so many shares to Jessica?" Jack didn't believe it.
"It's true. Jonah said it himself when he was drunk, and there's a will," Patricia said confidently.
Hearing this, Jack couldn't help but start to have thoughts.
He looked up and thought about his years of wandering abroad, and then about the Walton Family's prosperity.
It would be a lie to say he didn't have any resentment.
But he always felt too insignificant compared to the Walton Family, with no ability to fight against them.
So, he just wanted to stay far away and not have anything to do with them.
But now, everything seemed different.
He had leverage.
Did he waver?
Of course.
Men had a natural desire for power and status, and he was no exception.
"Mom, even if you're right, Jessica would never marry me. She loves Gabriel."
