Chapter 172 Confession

Suddenly, Tina's words echoed in her mind.

"When Dr. Smith was drinking just now, you kept staring at him. Not just me, everyone saw it. Now, it's not just me; everyone thinks the same."

"And when you fell just now, everyone probably thought you did it on purpose."

Seeing Jack's gaze, Jessica immediately had a bad feeling.

Now, not only did everyone think so, but even Jack probably believed she was trying every way to attract his attention, that she was infatuated with him.

'Never mind, time will prove everything. I genuinely have no interest in him,' thought Jessica.

She looked away and continued with the game.

In her ear, a colleague's voice called out again, "Jessica, it's your turn to drink."

Jessica had already had quite a few drinks. Finally, while still sober, she reminded Tina, "Take me home later, or I'll come to your place. Don't forget, I'm entrusting my life to you."

Seeing that she had lost a lot and drank heartily, everyone forgave her and didn't make her drink more.

But by then, Jessica had already drunk quite a bit.

She propped her chin with one hand, leaned back on the sofa, and closed her eyes to rest.

Her head was spinning, and she didn't want to think about anything; she just wanted to rest and then sleep.

From his seat, Jack's lips curled into a cold smile again.

She dared to play drinking games with them despite having such a low tolerance for alcohol. He estimated roughly that Jessica hadn't drunk much, but her tolerance was terrible. She was already drunk after a few drinks, just barely holding on.

That wasn't the most important thing. What really ruined her impression was that as soon as he entered, she used the clumsiest method to make him play the hero saving the damsel in distress.

And she stared at him without blinking while he drank.

Jack found all of her actions vulgar.

Yet, Patricia actually liked such a girl. It was a miracle.

Among so many socialites, she didn't fancy any of them but found fancy in such a scheming, manipulative girl. It was unbelievable.

He hadn't attended these new employee gatherings for many years.

If Patricia hadn't overheard his assistant's report and found out Jessica was coming, forcing him to come, Jack wouldn't have come at all.

Since he was already there, he decided to stay a bit longer to figure out what kind of charm Jessica had that made his mother like her so much.

However, the outcome of his investigation left him greatly disappointed.

Losing patience, Jack took long strides and pushed the door open to leave.

As he left, the atmosphere in the room instantly became lively and noisy.

Jessica was instantly annoyed by the noise, her head buzzing, and the room felt stuffy. She felt a tightness in her chest and wanted to go out for a walk.

"Tina, you keep playing. I'm stepping out for a bit," Jessica said to Tina, who was engrossed in the game, before she left.

"Okay," Tina responded, her attention still on the game in her hand.

Seeking some fresh air, Jessica inquired with a server about the best spot for good ventilation.

The server pointed her to a place, and without much thought, she headed in that direction.

As soon as she arrived, she heard a soft, almost tearful voice saying, "Dr. Smith, I really like you."

Jessica immediately stopped in her tracks and quietly moved to the side to hide.

"So what? Should I like you too?" Jack's voice was extremely arrogant.

It was unmistakably Jack's voice, utterly cold and heartless.

"No, no, Dr. Smith, I just wanted to express my feelings. I didn't expect you to like me," Carol was already crying. "I just wanted to let you know my feelings."

"Okay, I know now. You can leave." Jack's voice grew even colder.

Carol couldn't hold back any longer and started crying, "Dr. Smith, I... I saw you a long time ago. You gave a lecture at our hospital, and I've liked you since then. I came to this hospital because of you."

"So, you're telling me you came to this hospital for me, and now I'm supposed to take care of you?"

Each of Jack's words grew colder than the last, each sentence feeling like a stab to Carol's heart.

'If I was Carol, I would be devastated and heartbroken,' Jessica thought and cursed silently, 'Douchebag, douchebag.'

She thought Jack was single because he couldn't find a girlfriend.

'What's the use of being handsome? Who would want to stay with an ice block every day? It would be freezing,' Jessica pondered.

"Dr. Smith, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have disturbed you."

With that, Carol lowered her head and ran away crying.

As Carol cried with her head down, Jessica only caught a vague outline and couldn't get a clear look.

But the sound of her crying made a lasting impression.

Unrequited love! It really was the most painful and bitter emotion.

If one could openly love and be mutually affectionate, who would choose unrequited love?

Seeing this scene today, Jessica couldn't help but think of her own past experiences. The more she thought about it, the more chaotic and stifled she felt inside.

She had tried her best not to think about Gabriel, but something always brought her thoughts back to him.

The show had ended, and she had enjoyed enough fresh air. Just as Jessica was about to turn back, she suddenly sensed something was amiss.

Looking again, she noticed a large shadow had appeared where she was standing. When she looked up, she instantly saw Jack standing in front of her.

Jack's cold eyes shot towards her, his thin lips tightly pressed, and his whole aura was freezing.

Jessica pressed her lips together, not saying a word.

They stood like that for a while, neither speaking, until Jessica couldn't stand the pressure and spoke first, "Dr. Smith, what a coincidence. I didn't expect you to be here for some fresh air too. I overheard what just happened by accident. Don't worry, I promise to keep it a secret and won't reveal a word."

Jessica thought that after making this promise, she could leave.

But Jack still stood there blocking her way and replied coolly, "I didn't lose anything. Strictly speaking, I was confessed to, which proves my value and attractiveness. I should be proud. Why would I be afraid of you revealing it?"

Jessica was speechless at his narcissism.

At this moment, Jack stared at Jessica and took a few steps closer, almost pressing her. "I'm interested in why you're here."

As he asked, his gaze was as sharp as an eagle's, piercing into Jessica.
