Chapter 483 Silently Loving You Is Enough 2
Vincent responded thoughtfully, "That aligns with me as well. I'm also very persistent by nature."
Was it the atmosphere of the night or the gentle glow of the night lights?
Tina suddenly mustered the courage to look at him, "What about your feelings? If you were certain about someone, would you be just as persistent?"
Vincent gazed into the distance, his dark eyes suddenly becoming obscure and deep, making it impossible to discern the emotions hidden within.
The wind was getting a bit chilly.
Tina and Vincent walked shoulder to shoulder, and just when Tina thought he wouldn't answer.
Suddenly, she heard his voice.
"Yes, I'm very persistent."
"But." he suddenly changed the subject, "When my persistence causes her trouble, I have no choice but to retreat."
Hearing this, Tina suddenly felt a pang in her heart.
What was this feeling?
She had thought long ago that a man as outstanding as him surely wouldn't be without a girlfriend.
If he had one, the person he liked must be incredibly exceptional.
Later, she learned that he had been single for years without any romantic involvement, and her heart began to stir with anticipation once more.
But now, she realized that his single status wasn't due to an inability to find the right person; rather, it stemmed from the fact that he carried someone he profoundly loved deep within his heart.
Who was the girl he loved?
She was so envious!
But what good was envy?
At most, she and he were just friends who had met a few times. Many feelings couldn't be expressed.
Or, if she spoke up, she might be rejected.
She didn't want that, so she preferred to love him silently.
It would be best if no one found out, so her affection might last a bit longer.
When they reached the barbecue restaurant and were looking for seats, Vincent specifically asked, "Are there any seats inside?"
"Sorry, it's full inside. The seats outside are also good; you can pick one."
After sitting down, the waiter brought the menu.
Vincent said he wasn't picky and let Tina order whatever she liked.
So Tina ordered some popular dishes.
While waiting for the food, she hugged her arms.
She had left the hospital in a hurry and forgot to bring a jacket, so she felt a bit cold when the wind picked up.
At that moment, she saw Vincent stand up.
Then, a shadow fell over her.
Through the reflection on the ground, she could see him bending down.
Then, she felt a weight on her shoulders, enveloped by a comforting scent and the warmth of his jacket. Because she was sitting, the long hem made it feel more like a coat.
She reached out and gently clutched the jacket, then looked up with clear, bright eyes at Vincent.
"Thank you, but if you give me your jacket, the wind is quite strong. If you catch a cold, I'll feel really bad."
Vincent reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm fine. This bit of wind is nothing to me."
"Okay."
As she lowered her head, Tina's face was almost entirely red.
Wearing his jacket, she was surrounded by his fresh, masculine scent.
At that moment, she felt like she wasn't sitting on a chair but on a cloud.
She looked at the handsome Vincent with his bright eyes and starry brows, igniting a trace of longing and fantasy in her heart.
If only there would come a day when he might feel the same way about her.
Just then, the barbecue arrived, interrupting Tina's thoughts.
Thinking about her earlier thoughts, she felt a bit ashamed.
In her youth, a classmate had said that not all affections would have a happy ending. Some affections would remain a secret for a lifetime, and some were as if they were in worship, never meant to become reality.
Now, she understood that some men were truly only meant to be admired from afar.
After dinner, Vincent took Tina to the hospital.
Tina was on the night shift that day, starting at ten o'clock.
Knowing that she had been running around the hospital all day for Jessica and still had a night shift, Vincent asked with concern, "How are you feeling? Can you manage? If you're too tired, you should take a break."
"I'm okay. I'll get through it. After the night shift, I can rest for two days. Besides, Jessica is showing signs of a miscarriage, and I'm worried about her. I can check on her during my night shift."
"Miscarriage?"
At that moment, all of Vincent's attention was focused on that word.
"Are you saying she's pregnant?" Vincent asked lightly.
His voice was so soft that it almost revealed no emotion, but Tina still heard the loss and melancholy in it.
After getting out of the car, Tina walked into the hospital.
But Vincent's car remained parked there, not moving for a long time.
From a not-too-far distance, she could see him take out a cigarette, light it, and lean lazily against the seat, smoking with a heart full of sorrow.
Before, Tina had only speculated, but now, piecing together all the details, she was almost certain.
The person he was so persistent about was none other than Jessica.
Tina should have realized it sooner.
When he was injured, he specifically wanted Jessica to treat him; his care and concern for Jessica had long surpassed that of ordinary friends, especially when he heard that Freddy and Gilbert might be missing, he almost rushed over.
He cared so much about Jessica.
How could it be just because they were friends?
But Jessica was already married, so he would say that he didn't want his persistence to trouble her.
Worried that Jessica might be hungry, Tina even brought back some soup for her.
It was thick and mild, perfect for her to eat now.
After finishing the soup, Jessica looked at Tina apologetically, "I'm sorry, Tina, for causing you so much trouble today. And thank you for being like a little ray of sunshine in my life."
"What are you talking about? We're best friends, of course, I'll take care of you."
'And besides, you are the one Vincent likes.' Tina thought.
'Vincent might not be able to be close to Jessica intentionally, but he always cares about your every move. If something happened to you, he would be heartbroken.'
'So Jessica, I must take good care of you!'
But these words, Tina couldn't say out loud.
Time was running out, and Tina went back to prepare for her night shift.
Shortly after she left, Jessica's phone rang.
It was already very late, and the number was strange an international number.
So Jessica answered the call with some confusion.
As soon as she picked up, a gentle voice asked, "Hello, are you Mr. Walton's wife?"
