Chapter 145 What If The Person Is You?

Gabriel's tall figure immediately froze. In the dark night, he clenched his fists, trying his best to suppress the pain and discomfort in his heart.

Jessica caught up to him and was about to speak when Gabriel suddenly turned around, his sharp eyes locking onto hers, and uttered each word deliberately, "I don't want to."

Gabriel didn't want to know at all.

He was really being masochistic, staying here to listen to her love story with her first boyfriend.

Hearing his words, Jessica's face suddenly turned pale, as if all the blood had drained from it.

She had gathered all her courage, and was so eager to tell him, "It's you, you fool, it's you!"

But what she heard was his rejection.

Biting her lip, Jessica forced herself to speak again, "Do you really not want to know?

"If I say that person is..."

Before she could finish the last "you," Gabriel suddenly reached out and covered her lips.

His voice was even colder, devoid of any emotion. "I said, I don't want to hear it."

He almost shouted at her in anger, "Jessica, I don't want to know. I don't care who you love. Don't tell me."

In the dark of the night, a lonely and desolate smile appeared at the corner of Jessica's mouth.

'Yeah, he doesn't want to hear it, doesn't want to know at all, so why should I tell him?' She inwardly mocked herself.

'He doesn't care at all, stop being foolish.'

This time, she had gathered all the strength in her body. If she missed this chance, she would never have the courage to say it again.

Being humiliated once was enough. She didn't need to be humiliated over and over again.

"Fine, I won't say it," Jessica said.

Gabriel's dark eyes deepened, and only then did he let go of her.

The last glimmer of light in her eyes faded, becoming completely dull.

"Let's go, I'll take you home," Gabriel said.

Jessica radiated a bitter smile.

Did she even have a home?

From the moment she got divorced, she no longer had a home.

When they got in the car, both were unusually quiet, with only the soft music playing in the background.

Neither of them said a word to each other.

It wasn't until they got out of the car that Gabriel spoke, "We're here."

"Okay."

After getting out of the car, Gabriel went to park, and Jessica went home by herself.

She didn't stop, going straight to the second floor.

Then she took out a suitcase and started packing her belongings. She didn't have much that was truly hers—just some documents, clothes, shoes, and cosmetics. Since everything was neatly organized, packing was quick.

When Gabriel came in, she was already halfway through packing.

At that moment, he was stunned, his heart filled with bitterness.

It was also at that moment that he suddenly realized an important issue he had been ignoring.

They were divorced. How could they still live together?

She was leaving, leaving this house completely. From now on, her presence would no longer grace these walls.

Thinking about this made his chest tighten uncomfortably, as if a rope were constricting his neck, making it difficult to breathe.

Unable to hold back any longer, he stepped forward and grabbed Jessica's arm. "Stop packing."

Jessica turned around, looking at him in confusion.

"Besides Carter, you don't have any relatives here. You haven't settled your housing and job yet. Stay here for now. Move out when everything is sorted," Gabriel said.

"You must be accustomed to this room. You stay here, and I'll move to the other room. I won't disturb you," he added.

Jessica looked up and explained, "Thank you, but you don't need to worry. I've already settled the job. Once Mrs. Hernandez returns to the country, I can start working. Grace has a house near the hospital. I'll move there."

Surprised that she had arranged everything, Gabriel paused and replied, "Living with Grace? Won't that bother her?"

"If it were someone else, I might be concerned, but Grace and I have been friends for over twenty years. We've practically been together since birth. Neither of us would have an issue with it," Jessica replied.

Clearing his throat, Gabriel said, "I didn't mean that. I mean, she's dating Quentin. Wouldn't it be awkward for them if you lived together?"

His intention was to get Jessica to stay.

Unexpectedly, Jessica nodded in agreement. "You're right. While Grace is busy with her filming, I'll stay there temporarily and then find a new place."

Gabriel could only say, "Actually, you can continue living here. I don't mind."

Jessica shook her head. "No, since we're divorced, living together wouldn't be appropriate. Besides, your status is sensitive. I don't want to end up in the news. And..."

Pausing, Jessica continued, "Now that we're both single, if you get a girlfriend or I get a boyfriend, it wouldn't be good for either of us. Since we're divorced, let's make a clean break."

Only by doing this could she leave without any lingering thoughts and truly bid farewell to the past.

"Boyfriend?" Gabriel asked.

'She said she is single now; she said she might have a boyfriend one day.'

Thinking of this made him restless and even more frustrated.

How had he not thought of this? After becoming single, with her qualities, many would pursue her.

But just thinking about her having a boyfriend, belonging to someone else, made him insanely jealous.

Unable to hold back any longer, he asked, "Didn't you love your first boyfriend for ten years? Would you really date someone else? Or are you going to find that first boyfriend?"

Jessica shook her head.

She responded in a calm tone, "No, I won't."

"Why not? Didn't you think about your first boyfriend for ten years? Are you sure you can let go?" Gabriel asked.

"He has already forgotten me, doesn't remember me at all. Why should I look for him? Thinking about him for ten years means nothing compared to his beloved returning. Forget it, let it be.

"The most amazing thing in this world is time. Time will dilute everything, and time will take everything away. One day, I will forget him completely," Jessica said with certainty.

Hearing her say this, Gabriel suddenly felt refreshed, his heart racing.

She said she would let go, she said she would forget.

Did that mean he had a chance?

Closing the suitcase, Jessica said, "I've packed everything. I'm leaving now. You should rest early."

With that, she pulled her suitcase and walked out.

Gabriel reached out and grabbed her hand. "It's so late. How will you go alone?"

"I'll take a cab."

"It's very late. I don't feel safe with you going alone. Stay here for the night, and I'll take you tomorrow," Gabriel recommended.
