Chapter 111 Over Him, Now Indifferent

Seeing that there was no way to avoid it, Jessica could only step forward. "I wanted to get some fresh air, so I came out."

"Where's your phone? Why is it turned off?" Gabriel's gaze fell on her phone.

Jessica bit her lip gently and said faintly, "Maybe it ran out of battery and shut down automatically."

At this moment, she had no idea that Gabriel had almost turned the entire city upside down looking for her.

He didn't mention a word about the commotion.

In the end, Gabriel simply stepped forward and took her hand.

Since he had come, Jessica knew she couldn't escape.

She didn't resist, letting him hold her hand and following his steps into the car.

On the way back, a sudden gale arose, as if a heavy rain was imminent. The trees on both sides of the street swayed wildly in the wind.

Jessica looked out the window indifferently, without saying a word.

It was only when they made a left turn at a traffic light that she realized something was different. She asked, "Aren't we going home?"

"I'm taking you to dinner," Gabriel said.

"Okay," she responded faintly, her face expressionless, neither agreeing nor refusing.

By the time the car stopped outside the restaurant, it was already pouring rain, with large raindrops pounding on the car.

Since the restaurant didn't have an underground parking lot, they had to enter from outside.

As Jessica pushed open the car door and stepped out, Gabriel promptly said, "Wait a moment."

The next moment, he got out, took an umbrella, and after preparing everything, he reached out and took Jessica's hand. "Let's go."

"Thank you." After expressing her gratitude, Jessica's expression remained indifferent.
She was no longer the naive, youthful girl she used to be.

She had long passed the age where a piece of candy could sweeten an entire summer.

Perhaps she had been hurt too many times, or maybe the bitterness in her heart was too deep. Jessica suddenly realized that these 'sweet' gestures couldn't heal the wounds in her heart.

Her heart remained cold, very cold, and very painful.

They arrived at a very atmospheric VIP room on the second floor.

The room was serene and distant, with the fragrance of orchids lingering. Through the window, one could see the small garden below and hear the sound of the rain outside.

As soon as they arrived, the manager came in and respectfully asked, "Mr. Walton, shall we serve the dishes now?"

"Are you hungry?" Gabriel asked Jessica.

Jessica replied, "your call."

Gabriel looked at the manager. "Yes, serve them now."

Soon, one exquisite dish after another was placed on the table, each one a feast for the senses.

At that moment, familiar melodies began to play in the hall on the second floor. It was piano music, which was some of her favorite pieces as well.

Jessica wasn't a fool. With one glance, she understood everything.

These must have been prepared by him in advance.

Just then, the lights in the room went out.

Jessica thought the power had gone out, but the next moment, a beautifully crafted cake was brought in. Gabriel, holding a bouquet of roses, looked at her tenderly. "Jessica, happy birthday!"

At this moment, she should have remained calm and indifferent.

But for some reason, her heart softened completely.

"You..." The sound of her voice betrayed her emotions.

"You remembered?" Her voice trembled uncontrollably.
"Of course, I always remembered. I prepared all of this a long time ago," Gabriel said.

In the two years of their marriage, he had celebrated her birthday, but it was always mechanical. Even the birthday cake and gifts were chosen and given by Oscar.

But this time, he personally celebrated her birthday with her.

But for Jessica, this surprise, came too late.

Yes, too late. She dared not to hold any expectations for him.

Even when Gabriel placed the necklace and earrings before her, she remained unusually calm.

"Let me help you put them on," he said.

Jessica neither agreed nor refused.

Yet, even so, Gabriel still busied himself like a gentleman.

If it weren't for that phone call, Jessica thought, perhaps before the evening ended, her heart would have softened, unable to hold back her affection.

But the future was unpredictable; you could never foresee what would happen next.

When all the dishes were served, they picked up their forks to eat, Gabriel's phone suddenly rang.

Jessica didn't stop her actions; she continued to pick at her food, eating slowly and gently.

The food was delicious, but her heart was no longer in it.

Food at this moment tasted like nothing at all.

The call was from Diana.

Jessica didn't know what Diana said, but Gabriel's brow remained tightly furrowed.

He pursed his lips, his demeanor as frosty as ice. Even without uttering a word, he radiated an aura of intimidation.

Finally, he hung up the phone.

Gabriel opened his mouth, looking somewhat troubled as he glanced at Jessica.

Gabriel hesitated for a moment, about to speak, but this time, Jessica spoke first. "Diana, right? Let me guess, did she encounter some danger again? And only you can save her."

"Yes." Gabriel nodded truthfully.

Hearing his answer, Jessica's hand holding the fork paused.

She raised her beautiful head and couldn't help but laugh sarcastically. "As expected. But Mr. Bush, aren't you tired of using the same trick? I'm certainly tired of seeing it. Can she come up with something new?"

Gabriel said, "Jessica, this time it's different."

"You always say it's different. When we got married, she had a car accident; last time, she attempted suicide. This time, what is it? Kidnapping?"

"Diana has indeed been kidnapped," Gabriel answered seriously, looking at her.

Jessica laughed, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Her experiences are indeed extraordinary. It's as if every misfortune has her name on it. Gabriel, have you ever thought that maybe none of it is real? It's all fake. Everything is her own orchestration. She never had a car accident, wouldn't commit suicide, and hasn't been kidnapped. All she wants is for you to abandon me and rush to save her."

"This is a serious matter. I don't want to make reckless guesses and assumptions," Gabriel said solemnly.

"If I'm not mistaken, no matter what happens tonight, you'll go to save her, right? In that case, Gabriel, go ahead."

"What?" Hearing this, Gabriel looked up in disbelief.

In the past, whenever he went to save Diana, she had always opposed and refused vehemently.

But today she said nothing and let him go so easily.

Gabriel looked into Jessica's calm eyes, feeling that something was very different, but he couldn't pinpoint exactly what.

But one thing he could be sure was that today's Jessica was overly calm, overly generous.

"What? Don't believe I would let you go?" After speaking, Jessica personally opened the door and pointed outside. "Go ahead. No matter what happens, I won't stop you. I always thought you were the one who was wrong, but it wasn't you; it was me. So, Gabriel, I won't stop you. Go quickly."
