Chapter 109 Jessica's Unusual Behavior
"Gabriel." she reached out, pitifully grasping Gabriel's hand. "Are you leaving?"
"Since you're fine, it's not appropriate for me to stay, especially overnight. As I mentioned before, I'm married, and you're not. It's not good for either of us if I stay. Sarah can stay with you."
"Contact me if you need anything."
Upon hearing this, Diana almost burst into tears on the spot. "Gabriel, you believe those photos are true, don't you?"
"You think I'm an unfaithful, flirtatious girl, don't you?"
"It's not true, Gabriel. Those photos are fake. Whether at home or abroad, the only person I love is you."
Diana cried bitterly, but at that moment, Gabriel only felt annoyed.
He was eager to leave because he was very worried about Jessica's situation.
Pushing Diana's hand away, Gabriel said coldly, "Whether they're real or not doesn't matter. I'll help you suppress this issue."
"What did you say? It doesn't matter?" Diana looked at Gabriel in disbelief.
Her reputation didn't matter to Gabriel.
All men wanted a girl at her purest.
But he said it didn't matter.
So, he really didn't intend to be with her?
"Gabriel, are you leaving me?" Diana looked up, tears streaming down her face.
"I have a wife," Gabriel said solemnly.
"Wife?" Diana sneered, "What kind of wife is she? She is just a tool. Why would you rather have her than me?"
"Gabriel, in what way am I inferior to her? I'm better than her in every aspect."
"You're great, but she's my wife. I have to be responsible for her."
At that moment, Gabriel suddenly remembered what Xavier had once said to him.
"She's a girl, divorced and jobless. Giselle has been dead for years, and her other relatives have also passed away. Now she has no family, no one to turn to. Have you thought about how she would live after the divorce? How she would endure the gossip?"
He indeed couldn't imagine such a situation.
"It's late. You should rest early."
With that, Gabriel left the hospital without a trace of hesitation.
As soon as he got into the car, he called home to inquire about Jessica's condition.
The response he received was, "Mrs. Morgan is fine, everything is normal, and there is nothing unusual."
Hearing this, Gabriel felt relieved.
However, when he got home and saw Jessica, Gabriel realized just how unusual the so-called normal Jessica was.
When he arrived home, Jessica was having dinner.
The dinner was sumptuous, a whole table full of dishes, all of her favorites.
Gabriel was also hungry. After washing his hands, he sat down at the table to eat. Jessica sat on the left side of the table, and he sat on the right.
The table was already quite large, and with the distance between them, it felt even more empty.
From the moment Gabriel got home, Jessica acted as if she didn't see him at all.
She kept her head down, her expression calm, quietly eating the food on her plate.
She didn't even add new food to her plate.
Despite the sumptuous spread before her, Jessica only ate few dishes in front of her. She didn't touch any of the other dishes.
Noticing that Gabriel had joined her at the table, she quickened her pace of eating.
Seeing that she was only eating vegetables, Gabriel took the initiative to add some shrimp to her plate. "Eat more, you're too thin."
"I don't feel like eating shrimp today."
After politely and distantly saying this, Jessica continued eating her meal.
At this moment, she didn't even have the heart to look up at this man.
It was meaningless to look at him. It wouldn't change any facts and it would only make her heart ache more.
"Then have some fish."
Gabriel added some fish to Jessica's plate.
"Thank you."
She responded with the same indifference.
Later, Gabriel continued to add various foods to Jessica's plate.
Jessica accepted them all without any refusal.
"I'm done eating. Enjoy your meal."
With that, Jessica put down her fork and went upstairs.
It was only then that Gabriel noticed that all the food he had added to her plate was neatly placed in one corner, untouched.
"How much did she eat?" Gabriel asked Avery.
Avery sighed, "Just that half plate you saw. She used to love the mushroom soup I made, but she didn't touch it today."
"I see. You can go now."
Gabriel got up from his chair, scooped a large bowl of mushroom soup, and carried it upstairs.
When he reached the second floor, Jessica was looking for her pajamas to take a bath.
Seeing him suddenly enter, she was startled but quickly regained her composure.
Jessica spoke with cold tone, "Is there something you need?"
"Avery said you didn't eat much tonight. You used to love mushroom soup, so I brought you some. Drink it while it's hot."
Gabriel remained as elegant as ever, looking extremely refined, but this gentleness only made Jessica feel more mocked.
"No need, I'm full."
"If you don't want mushroom soup, I can have someone make you another kind. What would you like?"
Upon hearing this, Jessica abruptly stepped forward.
She reached out, took the mushroom soup from Gabriel's hands and checked its temperature. Without thinking, she gulped it down in one go.
Soon, the bowl was empty.
After finishing, she looked up coldly at Gabriel. "Is this enough now?"
Gabriel looked at her, suddenly feeling an indescribable sensation.
He felt that after today, Jessica had changed, becoming more polite but distant.
He even felt that she didn't seem to need him as much anymore.
This feeling deeply unsettled him.
"I'm not trying to force you," Gabriel said, holding the empty bowl, trying to explain.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, Jessica covered her mouth and ran frantically into the bathroom.
Inside the bathroom, she vomited violently, but to prevent Gabriel from hearing, she locked the bathroom door and turned on all the faucets, hoping the sound of running water would drown out her retching.
Though she felt miserable, she didn't want to use the way to gain his concern and pity.
That would only make her feel pathetic.
After vomiting, Jessica washed her face.
When she saw her cold, dim-eyed reflection in the mirror, she suddenly started crying.
She covered her mouth with one hand, unable to hold back her tears any longer.
But even as she cried, she didn't sob loudly, only weeping quietly.
'I was wrong, truly wrong.'
'I shouldn't have had any expectations of Gabriel and this desperate marriage.'
"Xavier, I'm sorry. I tired to fulfill your last wish and live well with him, but I just can't hold on any longer."
She was too tired, too exhausted.
