Chapter 294 Eyes Full of Affection

"Vincent," Madison's voice dropped, "I get what you're trying to do, but if you lie to Mom like this, she'll be crushed when she finds out."

Vincent was feeling the heat too.

He looked up and sighed, "I know Mom's gonna find out sooner or later, but she's still not 100%. Once she's better, I'll come clean."

Madison said, "Alright, I just hope she won't be too upset when she learns the truth."

"Yeah, Mom's getting out tomorrow. Once we're home, I'll take some time off to be with her," Vincent said.

Madison nodded, saying, "Vincent, with you around, I believe Mom will bounce back quick."

"Mom's recovery this time is a miracle, all thanks to Jessica for bringing in Dr. Turner. She did a huge favor for Mom. Now, think about it; weren't you too harsh with her?" Vincent gently nudged the convo back to Jessica.

Madison said, "Vincent, I do feel bad for her, but it's not all on me. How was I supposed to know you two were faking it? I thought she was your girlfriend. Considering I caught your 'girlfriend' cheating, I think I'm being pretty chill about it."

"And now? Since you know the truth, shouldn't you apologize to her?" Vincent asked.

Madison immediately looked down, silent for a long time.

She had said so many harsh things earlier, and now she felt really embarrassed to apologize.

"Don't wanna go?" Vincent saw right through her and asked patiently.

"It's not that I don't want to; it's just awkward and really embarrassing."

Vincent patted her shoulder and gently persuaded, "Madison, Jessica's not unreasonable. Before I came, no matter how wronged she felt, she didn't explain or retaliate against you. All she needs is an apology from you. Trust me, she'll accept it."

Madison asked, "Really?"

"Yes, I promise."

Madison said, "Alright, Vincent, I'll apologize to her, but can you come with me?"

"Sure."

After agreeing, Vincent and Madison walked towards the elevator.

Not far away, Alexis, looking exhausted, slowly returned to her hospital room.

Thinking about what had just happened, she suddenly started gasping for air, with her chest beginning to hurt.

She had just had surgery not long ago, and chest pain was not a good sign.

Forcing herself to stay conscious, she immediately pressed the emergency button.

Ennifer had just reached the door when she heard the emergency alarm, and she rushed in, her high heels clacking frantically.

She was extremely scared.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Ennifer dropped her bag and ran towards Alexis, asking anxiously.

Alexis's face was very pale, and her breathing was rapid.

Even the usually calm and composed Ennifer was extremely anxious, her palms sweating.

Fortunately, the doctor arrived in time. After a quick check, they gave Alexis an oxygen mask.

A few minutes later, her breathing returned to normal, with her heartbeat stabilizing.

"Mom, the doctor said your vitals are back to normal. How do you feel? Does your chest still hurt?" Ennifer bent down and asked softly.

Alexis nodded and gave a faint smile, comforting, "Ennifer, I feel much better now. My breathing is fine, and it doesn't hurt anymore. Don't worry about me."

"Okay."

Ennifer finally felt a bit relieved, but thinking about what had just happened still scared her.

Turning around, she looked at the doctor, and they stepped outside the room.

Ennifer then spoke, "Doc, thanks. But what just happened to my mom? Could it be a post-surgery thing?"

The doctor shook his head, saying, "Ms. Lucas, no need to stress. Your mom's surgery went great. The chest pain was probably 'cause she's still in recovery. Her heart's not fully healed yet, and the pain was likely from rapid breathing and a temporary lack of oxygen."

"Rapid breathing?" Ennifer was puzzled.

The doctor said, "Given your mom's condition, it's likely that emotional ups and downs caused the rapid breathing. Even though the surgery was a success, I've checked her medical history. She's got a complicated heart history. It's crucial to keep her emotions in check, avoiding big swings, especially extreme sadness or joy."

"Okay, doc, got it."

Returning to the room, Ennifer was still worried.

Looking around, she realized something important.

She asked Alexis, "Where's Madison? Wasn't she supposed to stay with you? Where is she?"

Not seeing Madison anywhere, Ennifer immediately got pissed.

She pulled out her phone to call Madison.

Alexis quickly reached out and grabbed Ennifer's hand, saying, "Ennifer, don't call her yet."

"Why, Mom?"

"Madison is with your brother right now. They have something to handle. They'll come back once they're done," Alexis said.

"What could be more important than their own mom? No, I need to get her back right now. Luckily, I came just in time, and the doc arrived quickly. Otherwise, I'd be fuming," Ennifer said.

Thinking about what had just happened, Ennifer was still shaken, her heart pounding.

Alexis gently pulled her again, saying, "They went to find Jessica. Help me sit up."

"Okay."

After sitting up, Alexis looked at Ennifer with serious eyes, asking, "Ennifer, tell me the truth. Did you know about Vincent and Jessica pretending to be a couple?"

Her daughter was very perceptive and had a keen sense of people.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to single-handedly manage the entire Lucas Family and run the company so smoothly.

"Mom, have you known?"

Ennifer didn't hide it.

Since her mom asked, it meant she already knew, so there was no point in hiding it.

Alexis asked, "Then tell me; does Jessica have a boyfriend?"

Ennifer hesitated for a moment, then said, "I don't know if she has a boyfriend, but she was married. Her ex-husband is Gabriel, the grandson of Xavier, the current heir of the Walton Family. But they divorced a few months ago."

"Does your brother know?"

"Yeah."

Alexis couldn't help but sigh, "What a pity."

She said again, "She's such a nice girl. I really like her. She's gentle, smart, beautiful, and classy. Even though she's not from a wealthy family, you can tell she was well-educated from a young age. And she's a doctor. It's such a pity."

"Mom, I thought you'd mind that she was married?" Ennifer asked, surprised.

"Honey, I'm not living in the Victorian era! A previous marriage doesn't mean she's damaged goods. What's important is that Vincent likes her. Haven't you noticed how much he cares about her? His eyes are full of love and affection for her," Alexis said.
