Chapter 579 Clue 2
After hanging up the phone, Gabriel's face quickly returned to its previous cold expression.
Carter watched, feeling a bit uneasy.
He became increasingly nervous and took the initiative to speak, "Mr. Walton, the price isn't fixed. As long as you're willing to buy, we can discuss anything. How about you suggest a price?"
"Are you sure?" Gabriel looked over with a nonchalant gaze.
Carter nodded vigorously, "Of course."
At that moment, Gabriel stood up from his chair.
Gabriel strode over to Carter, stood beside him, and patted his shoulder, "Where are you staying now? Take me there."
"Mr. Walton," Carter was reluctant, "This isn't very appropriate!"
Gabriel didn't insist and turned to walk out, "In that case, there's no need for our deal to continue."
Hearing this, Carter panicked immediately.
Carter quickly spoke up, "Mr. Walton, wait, please."
"Alright, you want to know my address, I'll take you there right away."
"But you know, I'm heavily in debt, and those people have threatened to harm me. To save my life, I can only hide in a very remote place."
Gabriel raised an eyebrow and looked at him, "Lead the way then."
"Okay."
Carter's residence was in a very dim basement.
As soon as they walked in, a foul stench filled the air.
If it weren't for retrieving something, Gabriel would never have set foot in here.
"Where's the diary?"
"Mr. Walton, please have a seat, I'll get it right away."
Knowing he was about to receive the money, Carter was particularly generous to Gabriel.
One corner of the room was piled with old clothes and cardboard boxes, along with many moldy and foul-smelling items, looking like a garbage heap.
Carter walked over, bit by bit, and dug through the pile of trash, then took out something wrapped in cloth from the bottom.
After taking it out, he carefully unwrapped it, revealing the diary.
He walked over and cautiously handed it to Gabriel.
"It's been a long time, and with the frequent rain, the diary has become moldy, and the writing isn't very clear."
Gabriel took it and quickly flipped through it.
The content of the diary was very simple, with only a dozen or so pages written in total.
And each page didn't have many words, mostly one or two sentences expressing longing.
Only on one page did Giselle mention, "Be careful when you're on a mission, wear your bulletproof vest, don't get hurt, and don't get shot, or I'll be worried."
Gabriel's fingers stopped on this page, then he looked at Carter, "You've read her diary."
"What's so interesting about a diary? I didn't read it," Carter refused to admit.
Gabriel's gaze became sharp, those eyes seemed to see through everything.
Carter's heart started to race, and he began to cover up haphazardly, "It's impossible not to have looked at it at all, but I wasn't very interested, I just flipped through it casually."
"You just flipped through it?" Gabriel questioned coldly.
Knowing he couldn't hide it, Carter confessed everything, "Alright, I did read it, but it was a long time ago, I haven't looked at it recently."
"So, you told Jessica that her biological father might be a cop based on this sentence?"
Carter nodded, "That's right."
"I have a few more questions."
"Now, I'll ask you, and you just need to answer truthfully, not a single lie, understand?" Gabriel looked up and swept his gaze over.
Carter was intimidated by that look and immediately nodded, "Okay."
"First question, is this the only diary Giselle had? Do you have any others hidden?"
Carter quickly shook his head, "How could that be, just this one."
"Alright, is this diary complete? Did you tear out any pages?"
"No, it's all intact, the sides are sewn with thread, you can check carefully."
Gabriel had already checked.
The reason Gabriel asked this question was just to confirm.
"The photos!" At that moment, Gabriel crossed his legs and spoke steadily.
Carter immediately became alert, "Mr. Walton, I know you're smart, these two items are my last bargaining chips. You've seen the diary and the photos, shouldn't you pay me first?"
"How about this, I won't insist, let's set a time, and we can exchange money and goods."
Gabriel said, "No need to make it complicated, I can transfer the money to you right now."
Hearing this, Carter was instantly excited.
"Mr. Walton, are you serious?"
"Of course."
With that, he took out his phone, already prepared.
Carter handed over dozens of bank cards he had prepared to Gabriel.
Gabriel's gaze fell on the pile of bank cards, and he sneered.
"No choice, one card is risky, more cards are safer," Carter explained with a delighted smile.
"Lay them out," Gabriel ordered.
Carter immediately laid out all the cards neatly.
At that moment, Gabriel took a photo and sent it with his phone.
Two minutes later, Gabriel looked at Carter, "I've transferred money to each card, check them."
As soon as he finished speaking, Carter's phone started ringing continuously.
And each ring was a bank card notification.
Seeing the money coming in one by one, Carter's joy was palpable; he smiled, nearly dancing with excitement.
After the last notification, Gabriel looked at Carter, "So, can you give me the original photos now?"
Carter immediately smiled, "Yes, Mr. Walton, please wait, I'll get them for you."
A few minutes later, Carter took out an old, yellowed photo and gently handed it to Gabriel.
Gabriel took it and examined it carefully.
Two minutes later, after confirming the photo, Gabriel immediately took out his phone, "I've got the item, come in."
"Yes, Mr. Walton."
The next moment, Oscar burst in with his men.
Before Carter could react, he was already grabbed by the arm and pinned down.
"Mr. Walton, what do you mean by this?"
"Didn't I give you everything you wanted?"
Gabriel coldly smiled, "Precisely because you've given me everything, there's no use keeping you."
Hearing this, Carter was instantly terrified.
Almost immediately, Carter reacted, "Mr. Walton, please spare me, let me go."
"I'm begging you! I don't want to die, I can't die!"
Carter was already trembling with fear, even kneeling on the ground, begging continuously.
Gabriel looked at him with disdain, "Who said anything about killing you? I won't do anything illegal."
Carter was still terrified, "Then what are you going to do?"
