Chapter 113 Gabriel, I'm Pregnant
Jessica's head struck the back of the front seat. She couldn't recall how many times the car had rolled over; she only knew that her head throbbed with excruciating pain, and her body felt as if it had been shattered into pieces. Finally, the car ceased its tumbling and came to a halt.
Through the rearview mirror, Jessica saw the vehicle responsible for the accident continuing on its way, as if nothing had happened, growing smaller in the distance. Her head felt as though it might explode, but Jessica retained a sliver of consciousness. With great difficulty, she turned her head and saw that the driver beside her was slumped over the steering wheel, blood flowing profusely.
"Sir, sir?" Jessica mustered all her strength to call out, her voice strained and desperate.
"Sir, wake up, please wake up. You have to hold on, you must hold on." Jessica cried out, her voice filled with urgency, but it was to no avail.
The driver remained unconscious, his blood flowing, filling the enclosed car with the stench of blood. Jessica initially thought the metallic scent was coming from the driver until she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, followed by a warm rush of fluid. Instantly, a dreadful premonition gripped her heart.
"Baby," she cried, "baby."
Jessica wanted to call for help, to get out, to go to the hospital. But the car door was jammed shut, the rain was pouring down heavily, and there were hardly any cars on the road. Her cries for help went unheard. What could she do? What could she possibly do?
Jessica muttered, "Baby, please be okay. You must be okay. I will never forgive myself if something happens to you." she pleaded. "Baby, hold on. Mommy will save you. Baby, I beg you, don't leave me."
Jessica's tears flowed like a faucet, her fear overwhelming. She felt as if plunging into an abyss, leaving her utterly lost and terrified.
"No, Jessica, you can't panic. You can't lose your mind. You must stay calm. Only by staying calm can you and the baby be saved," she told herself.
Taking deep breaths, Jessica pinched her palm, trying to keep herself conscious and composed. Panic wouldn't save anyone; only by staying calm could she find a way out.
Right, her phone. She still had her phone; she could call for help. But after the violent collision, her phone had been flung somewhere unknown.
Forcing herself to remain calm, Jessica searched methodically. Finally, she spotted her phone on the front seat's carpet. In that moment, she wept with relief, but the phone was too far away. Reaching it seemed impossible.
She broke down, crying in despair. All her emotions churned violently within her chest. Jessica bent her body, straining to reach the phone behind her. Her arms were too short, so she took off her shoe, using its pointed toe to nudge the phone closer bit by bit.
Outside, the rain poured down in torrents, the temperature plummeting, and the wind howled relentlessly.
Inside, Jessica was bent over, drenched in sweat. Her hand stretched forward, inch by inch. The pain was excruciating, cold sweat breaking out all over her body, especially in her lower abdomen, where it felt as though she was being impaled by a flurry of needles.
But she couldn't give up. Finally, she grasped the phone. In that moment, tears of joy streamed down her face. But soon, she realized the phone was damaged, likely from the violent impact.
She held the phone, trying to turn it on repeatedly. Finally, after countless attempts, the phone powered up. In that moment, without a second thought, she instinctively called Gabriel.
After two rings, he answered.
"Gabriel, help me," Jessica cried out.
Sensing something was wrong, Gabriel urgently asked, "Jessica, what's happened?"
Jessica shouted, "I've been in a car accident. I can't get out of the car. Gabriel, come quickly, come save me."
Hurry, he had to hurry. Any delay could endanger her baby.
When Jessica made that call, she clung to all her hopes. She believed that even if Diana had been kidnapped, as long as the kidnappers hadn't received the money, her life wouldn't be in immediate danger. Besides, how could Diana be kidnapped? If Jessica's guess was correct, it was likely a ruse orchestrated by Diana herself to lure Gabriel.
But her situation was different. She had been in a car accident and was in grave danger. Without prompt medical attention, she could die. Yet, she never expected Gabriel to doubt her words.
"Jessica, I don't think this kind of joke is funny at all." She was frozen at his words. A laugh was yearning to break free but it found no escape. Tears threatened to spill, yet they refused to flow.
"A joke?" she whispered, "Gabriel, are you saying that I'm lying to you?"
So, this was his verdict.
This was the response to her desperate call for help at the brink of death.
The cramped car was filled with heat—engine heat, the heat of blood, the heat of breath. It was stifling, yet Jessica felt as if she were in an icehouse, her heart frozen. It was cold, truly cold, so cold that touching her chest might cause frostbite.
Her head throbbed more intensely, but that pain was bearable. The worst pain came from her lower abdomen, her breathing growing increasingly erratic, forcing her to gasp for air to alleviate the agony.
"Gabriel, I'm not lying to you. Why on earth would I lie to you about this?" she said, "I'm hurt, really hurt. I was in a car accident with the driver. I'm in so much pain, my whole body hurts. I'm begging you, save me."
After speaking a long string of words, Jessica could only moan in pain. The waves of agony crashed over her relentlessly.
"Jessica." Gabriel's voice grew colder. "I specifically asked Oscar to take you home. Where did this driver come from? I know you don't want me to go after Diana, but if I don't, she will die. You said you wouldn't stop me, so what are you doing now?"
Jessica wanted to laugh but couldn't. So he thought she was acting, that it was all a lie to stop him from rescuing Diana.
"Gabriel, I'm not lying. I really was in a car accident. Diana might die, but what about me? What if I told you I'm about to die? And the baby."
Gabriel asked, "Baby?"
Clutching the phone, Jessica finally revealed the secret she had kept hidden for so long, for the sake of the baby. "Yes, the baby. Gabriel, I never told you, but I'm pregnant. It's been three months. I'm in so much pain, I'm bleeding. Gabriel, please, save us. Save our baby, I'm begging you."
