Chapter 445 Jessica Flies into a Rage
"One last thing," Jack said. "It's been five years. I've long given up on you."
'Given up?'
Jessica sneered, looking at him mockingly. "If you've given up, then why are you still meddling in the Walton Group's affairs? Don't you know the Walton Group was left to Gabriel by Grandpa? You're fighting him, even using despicable means to try to replace him. I don't see you've given up."
"That's what everyone thinks," Jack said with a bitter smile.
"Then what? How do you want us to think? If I asked you to give up all your shares in the Walton Group and promise never to interfere with the company again, could you do it?"
"That's impossible!" This time, Jack almost immediately denied it without thinking.
Suddenly, he seemed like a different person.
He reached out and grabbed Jessica's shoulders, shaking her forcefully.
As he shook her, he shouted, "Why? Why does everyone except my mom side with him?"
"Gabriel is part of the Walton family, and so am I. I'm also Jonah's son. But what about Jonah? In Jonah's eyes, Gabriel has always been his only son. From childhood to adulthood, Jonah never acknowledged me."
"I don't care about the Walton family's money; I don't care about the Walton Group. But if making them suffer can satisfy me, then I'll make sure they feel the pain."
"Being an illegitimate child is a disgraceful label, Jessica. Do you know what it was like for me growing up? I was constantly ridiculed and mocked. Even after I gained status, it didn't change."
Jack was almost roaring.
After shouting, his eyes were bloodshot.
"I sympathize with your situation, but this has nothing to do with Gabriel. He's also a victim. You shouldn't blame everything on him."
"And your mother is also part of the problem. If I remember correctly, she insisted on being with my father even though she knew he had a family, and she insisted on having you."
"Jack, I know I can't stop you, and I have no right to. But I want to tell you that no matter what happens, I will always stand by Gabriel's side."
"If he wins, I'll celebrate with him; if he loses, I'll bear it with him."
After saying that, Jessica pried Jack's hands off her.
Then she turned and left without hesitation.
Jack, however, seemed to go mad. He chased after her and grabbed her.
His voice was vicious and cold, "He will lose, Jessica. Think it through. If he loses, you'll have nothing."
"That's my business, not yours."
Because of Jack's unreasonable behavior, Jessica got home late.
Gilbert and Freddy had been waiting for a long time. When they saw her, they couldn't wait to run over.
They hugged Jessica tightly.
"Mommy, you're home so late. We missed you."
Jessica affectionately patted their heads.
Since she didn't say anything, Freddy couldn't help but remind her, "Mommy, you haven't said you missed me and Gilbert too!"
Hearing this, Jessica couldn't help but laugh.
Even the bad mood from seeing Jack before leaving work was completely gone.
Pinching Gilbert and Freddy's soft cheeks, Jessica said seriously, "I missed Freddy and Gilbert too. How was your first day at the new kindergarten with new classmates and teachers? Did you have fun?"
Gilbert and Freddy said in unison, "Yes, we had fun."
"But it's not like before when we could see you as soon as we got home. Will you always come home this late after work, Mommy?"
"Not sure. If I work the night shift, I'll be home in the morning."
"Night shift?" Gilbert asked, tilting his head in confusion.
"Yes, working at night and resting during the day," Jessica explained.
Upon hearing this, Freddy immediately said, "Working at night sounds tough, and Gilbert and I won't be able to see you right after school. You won't be able to take us to kindergarten either. Mommy, can you not go to work and stay with us like before?"
"Daddy can go earn money!"
Children always want simple things—just to be with them.
Jessica patted their heads and explained seriously, "I don't work just for money. I do it because I love it. Being a doctor and helping patients is not only my dream but also your grandmother's dream, so I can't give it up."
"It's like how Gilbert and Freddy go to kindergarten now and will go to elementary, middle, and high school when you grow up. For me, working is like going to school."
Although they were a bit disappointed, Gilbert and Freddy were understanding after hearing Jessica's explanation.
"Alright, we'll support Mommy going to work."
In the living room, Charlotte had already set up dinner.
Seeing Jessica, she smiled and said, "Mrs. Jessica Walton, you're finally back. Mr. Walton asked if you were home as soon as he got back!"
"Was Gabriel back?" Jessica was surprised.
If Gabriel were home, he would have been as eager as Gilbert and Freddy to come down and see her.
Why would he be sitting calmly at home?
"Where is he? In the study?"
"Yes, but besides Mr. Walton..."
Before Charlotte could finish, Jessica had already hurried upstairs.
She went straight to the study and knocked on the door.
"Gabriel," Jessica called.
Soon, the door opened.
But Gabriel didn't invite her in. Instead, he stepped out of the study and closed the door behind him.
"Dinner is ready. Let's go down and eat!"
As she started to walk downstairs, Gabriel grabbed her. "Jessica, wait. I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
Gabriel pursed his lips but didn't speak for a long time.
Jessica grew more puzzled. "What's going on? Besides, is there anything we can't talk about?"
"Promise you won't get mad when I tell you."
"Okay, go ahead."
Glancing at the closed study door, Gabriel said, "Quentin..."
Before Gabriel could finish, just mentioning the name made Jessica bristle, almost exploding with anger. "Don't mention him to me."
"I know you and he have been friends for decades. I won't interfere with your relationship, but I have one condition: don't bring him up in front of me. I don't even want to hear his name."
After saying that, Jessica's chest heaved with anger.
But soon, she realized something.
Her gaze fell on the closed study door, and Jessica's hand trembled as she pointed at it. "So is he in the study right now?"
