Chapter 157 Jessica in Danger 1
"They gave it to you, so it's yours," Gabriel insisted, forcing the jewelry box back into Jessica's hands.
Jessica refused to take it, equally insistent, "I won't take anything that doesn't belong to me."
Besides, they were already divorced; she shouldn't keep the jewelry.
"If you came here just for this, then you can leave!" Jessica said.
"You're kicking me out?" Gabriel clenched his fists, looking at her in disbelief.
His dark eyes were almost blazing with anger.
He let out a light chuckle and suddenly laughed out loud, his handsome face looking at her. "Jessica, I must be a masochist."
"You're right, I shouldn't force you to take something that isn't yours. There are many women who desire gifts from me, and many who aspire to marry into the Walton family. Why should I insist on you?" he added.
"Fine, I'll give it to them right now," Gabriel angrily delivered a speech.
Jessica's first thought was of Diana.
Her face instantly turned pale, losing all color.
If she hadn't been holding onto the nearby sofa, she might have collapsed.
After a while, she found her voice again. "You're right, Mr. Walton, you have many admirers. I'm not worth mentioning, especially since you have someone you like."
"Gabriel, you probably wanted to divorce me a long time ago. You just couldn't get over that mental hurdle, worried about betraying Xavier's trust. Well, now it's all worked out; you can go and seek out Diana and propose to her. The two of you can be together soon," said Jessica.
Gabriel clenched his fists, his eyes almost spitting fire.
His voice came out through gritted teeth. "Do you really mean that?"
"Isn't that what you want to do?" Jessica retorted.
The divorce was final; they were free to marry whoever they wanted. She had no right to interfere.
Gabriel sneered, his eyes almost devoid of warmth as he looked at her. "Fine, very well. Jessica, if this is what you want, then I'll grant your wish."
"When did I say this is what I want?"
Jessica opened her mouth to say more, but before she could finish her sentence, the door slammed shut, and Gabriel's tall figure disappeared like the wind outside the door.
He was gone.
He left more decisively than she had imagined.
Jessica hugged herself tightly, suddenly feeling a chill in the air.
Her heart felt bitter.
She walked out the door, wandering aimlessly.
She didn't know where she wanted to go, she just kept walking and stopping randomly.
Suddenly, she passed a street filled with neon lights and bustling traffic, with one energetic song after another bombarding her brain.
At that moment, she felt particularly relieved, her whole body lightened.
She stepped forward without thinking and walked in.
Inside, it was noisy, the music was blasting, with music blaring and numerous people milling about. Typically, she would have found it too loud and hesitated to enter.
But today, she felt that this place was relieving her stress, filling her mind with music so she wouldn't think about anything.
Jessica found a random seat in the bar.
Soon, a waiter came over and asked what she wanted to drink.
She didn't dare order alcohol, wary of potential risks, and opted for a soft drink instead.
The "drink" came, looking particularly beautiful and pleasing to the eye.
Under the lights, it looked even better.
Jessica took a small sip and found it very tasty.
She quickly finished the first glass.
Without thinking, she ordered another.
However, by the third glass, she clearly felt something was wrong.
Her head was spinning, and she was feeling dizzy.
She hadn't drunk any alcohol, just a little soft drink. How could she be drunk?
Jessica, holding the glass, stumbled over to the bar and set it down, her red lips slightly parted as she asked, "Hey, did you give me the wrong drink?"
"I asked for a soft drink, but I'm feeling lightheaded. Can you swap it out for me?"
The boss looked at the unfinished drink in her glass and immediately understood.
This drink had a name that sounded like a soft drink and tasted great, very much like a soft drink, but it had a strong aftereffect.
This girl looked so innocent; it was probably her first time here, so she didn't know and ordered it by mistake.
After hearing the explanation, Jessica nodded, somewhat understanding.
Then she took the glass and staggered back to her seat.
Her head was getting dizzier.
She felt like her whole body was heavy and light at the same time. Waves of dizziness hit her.
Jessica lay on the table, waiting for the dizziness to pass so she could at least stand up and leave.
She pulled out her phone to chat with someone, mindful that Grace was filming and had already been delayed by her; she didn't want to disturb her further.
Besides, Grace wasn't here; she was far away. Even if she told her, it wouldn't help.
There were other two of her good friends from school, one had gone abroad for further studies, and the other was already interning and was exhausted every day. She didn't want to disturb them either.
Her finger hovered over the name "Gabriel." She thought for a long time and then silently swiped past it.
During the day, he had left so decisively.
He might already be on a plane to find Diana by now.
Finally, her eyes fell on the name "Vincent."
It had been a long time since they last met. She wondered how his mission was going and if there was any danger.
Thinking of this, Jessica immediately wanted to ask.
She was very drunk and wanted to type, but her fingers wouldn't cooperate.
So she had to send a voice message.
Jessica: "Vincent, do you remember me? I'm Jessica."
Jessica: "It's been a long time since we last talked. How are you? Did you come back safely? I still owe you a cup of coffee!"
Jessica: "When you come back safely, you must let me know!"
On the other side, Vincent had just gotten off the plane and was sitting in the car Yosef had come to pick him up in.
Suddenly, his phone dinged with a message. He thought it was from Jennifer or Melissa.
To his surprise, it was from Jessica.
He couldn't help but feel excited, but he tried to control his emotions.
What surprised him even more was that Jessica had sent a voice message.
He played it without hesitation.
Although it was just some ordinary greetings, Vincent quickly noticed something different. Her voice sounded like she was drunk.
In the front seat, Yosef was even more excited than Vincent, "Boss, that's Jessica's voice, right?"
"Don't talk nonsense," Vincent scolded coldly.
"Boss, don't be shy. I think it's time for you to settle down. Only when you settle down will we have a chance!" Yosef claimed.
Vincent ignored him, quickly typing a message back to Jessica: [Where are you?]
Seeing the words on the screen, Jessica's eyes widened.
She never expected Vincent to reply.
In fact, she had asked him before how his mission was going and if he was in any danger.
But he never replied.
She even thought he had forgotten about her.
But today, he actually replied?
