Chapter 499 Outwitted
Exposed, Carolyn could only retreat sullenly.
Jessica glanced at the chair in front of her, signaling her to sit down.
"I'll stand. Just say what you have to say."
"Fine. Do you know you just committed defamation and incited someone to commit a crime?"
Carolyn's eyes darted around. "Don't think you can fool me just because you've read a few books. I'm not someone you can easily deal with. If I had committed a crime, I would have been arrested already."
Jessica let out a sarcastic laugh. "That's because I haven't pressed charges yet."
"Carolyn, I've always wondered how Patricia could develop such an arrogant and domineering personality. Patricia can even ruthlessly use her biological son. How could she be so heartless?"
"But today, after meeting you, my question is answered. Turns out she has this dramatic, unreasonable mom who can't tell right from wrong."
"I looked into your background. It says you're from the countryside, but your actions are far from what a country person would do."
"Over the years, most of the country folks I've met are simple and kind. Patricia was just arrested yesterday, and you got the news and rushed over today. It seems someone informed you overnight."
"As soon as you arrived, you knew which hospital my mother-in-law was staying at and cornered my father-in-law. It seems Patricia had already planned it out for you. Your first target for help was my father-in-law."
"You know my father-in-law is kind-hearted and cares about his reputation, so you staged a big scene at the hospital to morally blackmail him. Unfortunately for you, you didn't count on me being there."
"Carolyn, I don't believe you don't know who I am, yet you spread rumors and incited public anger. Why? Isn't it just to make us compromise?"
When Jessica laid out all of Carolyn's schemes, Carolyn was instantly shocked.
"Fine, since you've figured it out, I'll be direct."
"I'll take Patricia home and educate her, but I absolutely can't watch her go to jail."
Jessica laughed.
The smile was full of sarcasm, disdain, and disbelief.
It seemed Patricia's worldview was indeed a reflection of her mother's.
"Patricia hired someone to commit murder, a heinous crime. She broke the law and hurt my mother-in-law. No matter what, she must face legal consequences."
Carolyn glared at Jessica. "So, after all this, you're not going to let Patricia go, right?"
"Not," Jessica replied firmly.
"Fine!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Carolyn grabbed the vase on the table and smashed it over her head without hesitation.
Instantly, blood gushed from her head.
The next moment, she saw the fruit knife beside her and stabbed it into her stomach.
Everything happened so fast that Jessica was stunned.
By the time she reacted, Carolyn was already on the ground, blood pouring out of her.
Jessica panicked. She knew exactly what Carolyn was trying to do.
It was nothing but a threat.
But she didn't expect Carolyn to be so ruthless to herself.
"Ms. Morgan, you're right. Of course, I know who you are. I know you won't let Patricia go."
"But now it's different. Think carefully. As long as I insist you intended to kill me, you're the murderer."
"If I can't save Patricia, I'll make sure you end up in jail too. You and Patricia can spend the rest of your lives in prison together."
Blood continued to drip from Carolyn's body.
At that moment, she suddenly grabbed the knife handle and pulled it out with great force.
The blood from the knife splattered all over Jessica's face, which was still warm.
Jessica stood there in shock, not even daring to wipe it off.
Over the years, she had encountered all kinds of people.
But Carolyn was beyond anything she had ever expected.
Seeing Jessica's blood-covered face, Carolyn suddenly burst into laughter. "You can't escape."
"Do you know? I was deceived by a man back then. I gave birth to Patricia in a toilet in the cold winter. Patricia was almost dead from lack of oxygen, her whole body purple. Patricia is my everything. From that moment, I vowed to protect her no matter what."
"By the way, aren't you curious why Jack has my last name?"
"Why?" Jessica asked, her voice trembling.
"Because Patricia was born out of wedlock. In a place like the countryside, there are too many gossips. I didn't want Patricia to endure the rumors. I wanted to protect her, so I had Jack take my last name, Smith, and told everyone Jack was my child, Patricia's brother."
"Since then, no one insulted Patricia anymore. They only attacked me. I protected Patricia, and I felt proud and accomplished."
Jessica shook her head in horror. "No, this isn't motherly love; it's spoiling."
No wonder Patricia was so heartless and ruthless, willing to take a life without hesitation. No wonder Jack had such a miserable childhood and a gloomy personality. At this moment, Jessica suddenly felt a bit sorry for Jack.
Jack couldn't acknowledge his mother and had to see her as his sister. Jack couldn't acknowledge his grandmother and had to see her as his mother. It was truly ironic. Even Jessica would have broken down in her shoes.
And the root of all this tragedy, the instigator, was the terrifying Carolyn in front of her.
No wonder Carolyn was so ruthless to herself.
When it came to ruthlessness, no one could surpass Carolyn.
Jessica panicked. She took out her phone, almost trembling as she called Louie.
"Louie, come in quickly."
"Carolyn, she committed suicide. There's so much blood."
Louie, hearing this, ran upstairs while comforting her. "Mrs. Walton, don't worry. I'm coming up right now."
When he arrived, Jessica was holding the knife, almost collapsing on the floor.
Because he ran too fast, Louie didn't wear his sunglasses.
Seeing the face that resembled Gabriel's, Jessica couldn't hold back anymore and burst into tears.
Jessica's consciousness and words became scattered. "Gabriel, you're finally here!"
"Take me away from here."
"Alright, I'll take you away right now."
Louie responded and immediately carried Jessica out of the hotel.
At that moment, the room service staff arrived.
Seeing Carolyn lying on the ground covered in blood, the staff immediately called the police and an ambulance.
Jessica was placed in the car by Louie.
With the heater on, Jessica felt a bit warmer, no longer cold.
But thinking about Carolyn's crazed attack, Jessica was still terrified.
Jessica's voice was shaky. "Honey, how can there be such a terrifying person?"
"No wonder Patricia is like this. Her mother is a lunatic and a complete psychopath."
However, Louie hadn't even taken Jessica home when their car was stopped by the police halfway there.
