Chapter 338 Is There Something Important Being Kept from Her?
Jack shot him a fierce look, almost baring his teeth. "Don't pretend to care."
"If it wasn't for your ex-wife plastering my mom's video all over the internet and hiring people to humiliate her, she wouldn't have taken her own life. It's all Danielle's fault. I already agreed not to fight for the Walton family's inheritance, and I never wanted to be a Walton. So why is she still trying to ruin me?"
"Jonah, listen up. From now on, I'm not backing down. I'm taking what's rightfully mine from the inheritance."
Jonah's voice was low as he looked at him. "If you want to come back to the Walton family, I'll publicly confirm your bloodline and acknowledge our relationship, letting you return to the family."
Jonah paused for a moment before continued, "But I left everything to Gabriel. You can't have it."
Jack laughed mockingly. "We'll see about that. I'll find my own way."
Jonah didn't leave until the emergency room light went off and Patricia was out of danger. When he got home, Danielle, Gabriel, and Jessica were having dinner. Seeing Danielle, his eyes turned cold. "Come upstairs with me. We need to talk."
Jessica looked at Danielle with concern. "Mom."
Danielle gently reassured her. "It's okay, you guys keep eating." She got up and followed Jonah upstairs.
Downstairs, Jessica and Gabriel had lost their appetite.
"Gabriel, I'm really worried about Mom. Jonah must have gone to the hospital to see Patricia. Now he looks like he's going to confront Mom. Shouldn't we try to mediate?"
Gabriel shook his head. "Mom's strong-willed. If she decided to go upstairs and handle it, she doesn't want us to interfere. If we go up, it'll only make her more worried."
"So we just wait here?"
"You go rest. I'll wait outside their door. If things get bad, I'll step in," Gabriel said.
Jessica nodded, knowing this was the best plan for now.
In the office on the second floor, Jonah looked at Danielle angrily. "Did you really post that video online?"
"Since you're asking, I guess you already believe it. So why bother asking me?"
"This is serious. She tried to kill herself. Have you ever thought that if she really died, you'd be responsible?"
"I didn't do it," Danielle replied coldly.
"Danielle, I've put up with a lot from you, but why did you have to provoke Patricia? She's always been well-behaved and never caused you any trouble. Why can't you be nice to her?"
"Well-behaved?" Danielle looked at Jonah incredulously. "Jonah, open your eyes. The delicate, gentle Patricia you talk about is very capable. She covets Jessica's shares and even wants to take over the entire Walton Group."
"Dad left The Walton Group to Gabriel. Like I said, she and her bastard son won't get a penny."
"He's my son too. Watch your tone." Jonah's face twisted with anger, and before Danielle could react, his hand struck her across the face.
The door opened, and Gabriel quickly walked to Danielle's side, helping her sit on the nearby sofa.
Then, Gabriel's sharp eyes locked onto Jonah. "I've told you before, you're not welcome here. If you want to be with Patricia, go ahead. But if you hurt my mom because of her, you'll have to deal with me first."
Jonah looked at Danielle, his lips trembling. Seeing her cheek swell up quickly, he looked remorseful, wanting to say something.
"I'm sorry!"
Finally, he apologized. But Danielle and Gabriel ignored his words. Jonah left in despair.
A week later, Patricia woke up, lying weakly in her bed. Jack looked at her, full of heartache.
"Mom, I'm sorry. It was all my fault. I failed to protect you. But don't worry, Mom, I'll protect you from now on."
Hearing these words, Patricia was moved to tears. "My dear, you've really grown up. Now I can rest easy."
Knowing Patricia had woken up, Jessica breathed a sigh of relief. Because if Patricia hadn't made it, Jack would have surely gone mad with revenge against the Walton family. Now that Patricia was awake, things might be a bit better.
However, her optimism was short-lived. On the day Patricia was discharged, Jack gave her and the entire Walton family a big surprise.
After her nap, Jessica woke up and was about to grab her phone, only to find it missing. She searched everywhere but couldn't find it. Unexpectedly, Gabriel came back at that moment.
Seeing him, Jessica immediately spoke up, "Gabriel, my phone is missing. Can you help me find it?"
"Your phone? When did it go missing?"
"I just took a nap, and now it's gone. I clearly remember putting it under my pillow before I slept."
"Maybe you remembered wrong?" Gabriel gently ruffled her hair and asked softly.
Jessica thought thoroughly and then said firmly, "No, I did play with it before I slept. How could it just disappear?"
Gabriel suggested, "Let's not worry about it now. How about I take you somewhere?"
"Where?"
"A friend's newly opened resort," Gabriel said, smiling as he gently took her hand. "It's far from the city, with fresh air and a nice environment. You've been too stressed lately. I'll take you there to relax."
"But you've been so busy lately, leaving early and coming back late. Do you have time?"
Gabriel squeezed her hand reassuringly. "I'll take you there now," he said, his voice calm and soothing. "You can stay and relax, and I'll come to get you in a few days. To keep you from getting bored, your colleague will join you, too."
"Tina?" Jessica asked.
"Yes."
Ten minutes later, Gabriel was holding Jessica's hand as they got into the car. The house staff quickly packed their things and loaded them into the trunk. Watching everyone busy and orderly, Jessica suddenly had a very bad feeling. But she couldn't tell what it was.
At that moment, Gabriel's phone rang.
"Wait a moment, I need to take this call," he said. Then he got out of the car. As he stood up, Jessica noticed a phone slipping out of his pocket.
"Gabriel, your..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she realized the phone looked very familiar. After a closer look, she saw it was her own phone. But wasn't her phone missing? Why? Why was it in his pocket?
That bad feeling grew stronger, and Jessica keenly sensed that he was hiding something important from her.
